Now I don't mean something that was expensive but you really enjoyed, but where you felt ripped off.

I'll start.

26 euros for two Sprite's in Paris.

And this was circa 2014.

My car exhaust was rattling on Christmas Eve and we had a long journey planned that night. Drove into the local garage and asked them to have a look for me. They replaced a missing bracket and charged me £100 for ten minutes work. I felt sick. Relieved, but sick.

Let me just try and locate my tiny violin.

Assuming 24% CGT you'll have made a profit of £2,500,000 (probably more as no reliefs/allowances taken into account) and you're moaning about only having just under 2 million left, how very difficult for you.

Ha ha, I thought the same .

Horrible meal in Trastevere in Rome last month. Made worse by the fact that my Italian cousin had chosen it and I was looking forward to it. “Only” €70 for three but on last day of our holiday I would gladly have paid double that for a good meal.

Sounds more like a Travesty!

£26 for 3 hours parking in Brighton, 2024

Christ, where did you park?? At the end of the pier ??😅

€6 each for tiny bottles of water in Geneva Airport.
And that was several years ago now.

And whatever it was (£££) that we paid for an evening’s parking* at the station car park in Richmond (Surrey) recently.

*max about 3 hours while we were at the theatre nearby.

Edited

We got broken into at that station whilst at the theatre in 2022 - smashed in all the glass on back window - police told us they didnt have CCTV and it was rife at that station -

Snorerephron · 07/05/2026 14:28

Centre Parcs

Not just the holiday cost but, bar the swimming, you could do better versions of all the activities for a fraction of the cost if you just drove a few miles down the road.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/05/2026 14:28

About 20 years ago, in a cafe in a nouveau trendy part of London, £7 for an Americano and a croissant. Even now, I don't expect to pay that much.

Isn't all Iceland eye-wateringly expensive?

You can get a pack of jammy Wagon Wheels for about a quid, so not all bad Grin

@Lomonald

You forgot to tell the taxi driver "DO NOT use the tunnel", didn't you........😂

Oh we did yes 😂

ChocolateCinderToffee · 07/05/2026 14:31

Oh, and just about every tradie in the area where I live. The plumber who tried to charge me £100 for ten minutes' work when he'd quoted £80 which is bad enough. The electrician who charged me £60 for fixing a light switch that is still not working properly. And, many years ago, the locksmith who charged £400 to open a jammed door.

Absolute jerks, the lot of them.

Squeakymoo1 · 07/05/2026 14:32

Entry fees for food, tatoo or beer festivals. £15 entrance fee to walk round and be charged for the items you actually want to buy. Why not add 50p to the beers or food, this could pay the venue, who I am sure are also charging the stall holders a fee for being there.

What I feel most ripped off by and it didn't cost me money to do at the time was being stupid enough to vote for Labour at the last election because I was fed up with The Tory's, I say it didn't cost me money at the time but it certainly has since, like everyone else who works for a living or doesn't boost their socio economic spending level through benefit scams, I guess?

Yawn.

RapunzelHadExtensions · 07/05/2026 14:33

Glastonbury festival.

southcoastsammy · 07/05/2026 14:34

Had a tradesman do the sucking teeth thing about a hole in an interior wall- quotes £3k for 2 men, 2 day job plus VAT… must have thought I was fucking dim.
The guy who did it took half a day -£250 including VAT…

TravellingSpoon · 07/05/2026 14:35

£23 for 2 small (and flat!) cokes and an orange juice at a bar near Wembley Stadium when we went to see Coldplay last year. Serves me right.

MyGirlJ · 07/05/2026 14:36

£90 at the vet, for Optimmune eye drops (2ml) to ease symptoms of an ongoing condition. They only last 2 weeks max, so that was £180 per month for 4ml of eye drops

LoyalMember · 07/05/2026 14:37

£27 for four drinks in a Glasgow city centre pub last August.

That seems very normal, unless they were tap water!

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 07/05/2026 14:39

£5 for a box of paracetamol at Crufts that would normally cost about 29p.

£25 for a man to walk into my kitchen, look at my washing machine drum and tell me I’d be better off buying a new one, then leaving. I’m still raging that I didn’t argue with him.

£24 for a bunch of hand tied roses with some greenery at a local florist. Walked into Tesco and saw an equally lovely bouquet of roses for £8.

I’m all for supporting small businesses but I did feel ripped off.

padsi1975 · 07/05/2026 14:41

Reindeer ride in Lapland. Hundreds of pounds for approx 3.mins being pulled in a sleigh around a courtyard. Same for husky ride. Total rip off and I felt like such a foolish tourist. I'm still embarrassed.

Porcupinepotato · 07/05/2026 14:42

£18 for a vet telling me our guinea pig had chapped lips

cvgji · 07/05/2026 14:42

£60 for a bloody light stick for a Kpop concert
