Whoever you are voting for today, it's probably not Labour - they might loose 2,000 seats.

How long exactly will it be before he resigns?

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame “The left’s self-professed ‘virtue’ is grotesque.” It really is, but they are the good people against us unmentionables or “numpties”.

BambooLampshade · 07/05/2026 11:58

No, he won't resign.

Labour haven't done well in Scotland for a while now. So no "loss" there.

Plaid have been on the cards to do better in Wales for a while, but the Greens might take vote share from them. No reason to resign, either way.

Local elections - there will be a bit of fuss as the Greens and Reforms win some seats, but I don't think it will be terminal.

Maybe a leadership bid is launched, but the 'big guns' are circling each other, waiting to see who goes first. And Burnham still needs to become an actual MP to join in.

Labour did VERY well in Scotland in the 2024 General Election. The SNP lost 39 seats.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 07/05/2026 21:29

Oh dear.

There’s not a shred of evidence that any Tory in government benefited from Covid contracts.

Mone was never in government and the Tory government brought proceedings against her to recover the money from her two years before Labour came to power.

This covid corruption giant Labour lie just lingers on. 🙄

Great, so that money has been paid back, right? Oh, wait..

No evidence? OK, a swift look gets you, randomly

Our Track and Trace report identifies 24 PPE contracts worth £1.6 billion that were awarded to companies with known political connections to Conservative Party.

www.transparency.org.uk/news/court-ruling-highlights-need-full-audit-all-covid-related-contracts-awarded-companies

Note that I'd talked about 'right wingers' doing this rather than 'Tories in government'. Though in terms of Tories in government, we could talk about Zahawi or Hunt's tax arrangements as just one other example.

MNLurker1345 · 07/05/2026 21:29

The infighting?

A large majority is one thing, fiscal constraints are another.

Starmer’s successor possibly will call an early GE to secure a clear mandate for reform.

Not unless Labour's polling improves massively. No PM would call an election knowing they would lose. Unless the 5 year term was almost up.

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 07/05/2026 21:46

EasternStandard · 07/05/2026 21:16

If that happens plus historic Wales losses and Scotland losses then by Starmer’s own words he and his party are very out of touch with the electorate.

One thing they most definitely are is out of touch with the electorate

I actually don't agree with the 'unmentionables' perspective and I didn't deny that leftists can disappoint us too on this front. But I think the 'they're all the same' narrative is both wrong and corrosive.

I don’t wanna point this out again, but there have been quite a lot of occasions when they call an election even though they don’t know they’re going to win. It’s called a mandate it’s important.

Why do you think that? Labour has a big majority and will no doubt have learned from May's error.

Are you quite quite mad? Do you think that Theresa Mays Mistake was an actual mistake or a gamble? And do you think she was the first prime minister to take a gamble in politics? Are you New?

Yeah, agree this won't happen. I'm going to get a '2029 Yeah Baby' t shirt printed at this rate. 😎

Nice one.

I have tried a few firm wagers in the past - the recipient has either disappeared, or asserted that they are against gambling etc.

Works every time…funny that…

Similar to those who maintain they are happy to pay more tax.

Edited

There is a 96% chance that I pay more tax than you do.

I’m actually not happy to pay more given where it goes

I am, however, very happy with the concept of tax

Government don’t always call an election because they think they will win. Sometimes they go one because they have to.

Government don’t always call an election because they think they will win. Sometimes they go one because they have to.

Which they won't have to do with a majority with this size.

No, it was a gamble that didn’t work out. You can call that a mistake after the event sure but it’s not in and of itself a mistake. It’s a gamble.

No again you are clearly mistaken. It’s nothing to do with how large their majority is. If they no longer have a mandate from the public which after today I strongly suspect they will not then things become quite different. It’s not about hanging onto Power whatever happens. it’s about governing with a mandate from the people.

Nothing in that is evidence of anything.

This has been gone through a million times. Left wing NGOs are not arbiters. The courts are, the National Audit Office is, etc. No proper authority has found any corruption. They’ve all rejected it. It’s bollocks.

The GLP lost every case it brought about Covid contract ‘irregularities’. Just for example.

That's absolute nonsense. The only thing that determines whether a government stays in power or not is whether the PM can command the confidence of the House of Commons.

Starmer's majority in the Commons is enormous, and that mandate is valid for five years.
