Whoever you are voting for today, it's probably not Labour - they might loose 2,000 seats.

How long exactly will it be before he resigns?

Thanks, I read that with interest, too.

I wonder how that report sits with the welfare crowd - presumably Blair is now the devil incarnate…

He always was! You made me laugh!

Ah, but quite a few people see changing the PM as leading to electoral disaster. So who is right? Stick or twist? There's a feeling among many that the churn of leaders is a bad thing and people don't want it. And it's what people feel in 2029 that's going to count.

£50 says no chance in hell it’s 2029.

Why do you think that? Labour has a big majority and will no doubt have learned from May's error.

Nice one.

I have tried a few firm wagers in the past - the recipient has either disappeared, or asserted that they are against gambling etc.

Works every time…funny that…

Similar to those who maintain they are happy to pay more tax.

I'm not a gambling woman but if I were I'd take that bet. Put me down for £50 at [email protected]

Not trusting randoms on here with my cash, but I'll screenshot and come back in 2029, how's that? 😁

But you wont, will you?

On the contrary. I know very well that the incumbent government typically loses 20% of defended seats on local elections. Has been that stat for a long long time.

however. Today polls are predicting 75-80% losses.

that’s very. Very new.

If that happens plus historic Wales losses and Scotland losses then by Starmer’s own words he and his party are very out of touch with the electorate.

I'm referring to the people who vote for them. Can't stand right wingers - they are venal, grasping and self-serving. Every problem the UK has now can be laid directly at the feet of Conservative governments and the numpties who voted for them. I'm not having a laugh, because none of it is funny.

That’s just nonsense. The left is no less venal and grabby than the right. The left has always devoured money and self-interest for its own ends and enrichment.

The left’s self-professed ‘virtue’ is grotesque.

I think it's hard to imagine how he can stay if things are as bad as expected. However, there is no consensus on his successor (it seems) so the path to replacing him isn't clear.

I guess Wes Streeting is the likeliest candidate. I quite like him. I think he's a good communicator.

I like Wes Streeting

The main distinction being - the left feel entitled to take the cash from the workers/tax payers…

@SingleSexSpacesInSchools
I have voted today and I did indeed vote Labour. I did not vote in the previous election but this year there is a risk that a Reform candidate may get in so it really motivated me. Luckily Labour are going to keep the majority regardless of what happens in my ward. I am happy with our council as they are doing a good job.

Ik, it’s nonsense. It’s shows why the bond markets think we can’t get a handle on spending.

So, what you actually mean is - fuck Reform, and if that means Starmer remaining, so be it.

There, fixed it.

The infighting?

A large majority is one thing, fiscal constraints are another.

Starmer’s successor possibly will call an early GE to secure a clear mandate for reform.

CurlewKate · 07/05/2026 21:29

What I don’t understand is why people are so convinced that Burnham would be good at the job. What evidence do you have?

Oh dear.

There’s not a shred of evidence that any Tory in government benefited from Covid contracts.

Mone was never in government and the Tory government brought proceedings against her to recover the money from her two years before Labour came to power.

This covid corruption giant Labour lie just lingers on. 🙄
