I think she is streets ahead of all the other leaders and I really admire her.

Me too. She's got time before the next GE, which is ideal given where we are. I see Reform are doing very well in the locals - which is great for the Conservatives planning ahead.. Reform councils will have had time to show how incompetent / useless they are / will be. Of course few people will ever vote Labour again so that's a help in the GE. Long-term looks positive for the Conservatives.

Any evidence or details on ‘Islamophobia’ being coined by the Muslim brotherhood for the sole purpose of deflecting legitimate questions about Islamic extremism? I know Said used it in the 1980s in terms of critical theory. A quick Google of its etymology states it was originally used in the full sense we mean now by the Runnymede Trust in the 1990s. Did you copy and paste someone else’s comment as fact? I wonder where they got it from…

And also, what significance is it meant to have? Is it semantics? As in you’d prefer ‘anti-Muslim’ to Islamophobia?

As in: The former Conservative Tory minisister and current Member of the House of Lords, Baroness Warsi, resigned the Tory whip in September 2024 due to the party’s ‘lurch to the far right’ and due to the party taking Islamophobia ‘far less seriously than other forms of bigotry.’

Or do you prefer: Former Tory PM Boris Johnson received significant criticism for his anti-Muslim comments describing Muslim women in burqas as ‘letterboxes’, ‘ridiculous’ and likening them to ‘bank robbers.’

Or do you think it’s suggesting that Islamophobia/being anti-Muslim doesn’t exist? Really interested to know what your point was when you regurgitated those comments.

I saw former Green leader Caroline Lucas calling for immediate action on any anti-semitism in the Green Party - and rightly so. It seems it’s often left to former senior figures to call out these issues within their own parties.

Nice paragraph tagged on at the end of your missive to ensure you've covered your concern about anti-semitism too. Good work.

Don’t even go there - a tactic to totally deflect from you posting an Islamophobic conspiracy theory as fact when I’m focusing on a very specific point which you made. We see you. Why don’t you answer my questions?

😆How on earth can you say the future looks positive under Conservative. Have you seen the results? They will never, ever get in power with Kemi at the helm or by being Reform lite which is all she tries to do.

Bless. Best not watch the news today eh.. Left getting the drubbing they so throughly deserve after the utter contempt they've shown the tax paying electorate.

I thought you lot really valued freedom of speech? Your refusal to explain tells us everything we need to know.

The results are expected. What I am sad about is that in my hometown, which is likely to see huge Reform gains from Labour, has seen people (especially women) harassed, abused, threatened and intimidated by Reform campaigners. I’m sad that some of the worst types of people are now likely to have influence over public services for vulnerable people, and the like. It’s not about bitterness or petty tribal politics for me.

Gallowayan · 08/05/2026 07:56

If you are a fan girl of "Kemi" why are you waving your hands around like a twat to attract her attention on here?

Shes all over twitter and more likely to see you on there.

The tories will be a fringe party by the end of today. Love that for you.

This sounds like a Labour voter seeing the results today. Insults and anger won’t get them far tbf.

BIossomtoes · 08/05/2026 08:19

The results aren’t out yet. There are still 94 councils to declare as well as Wales and Scotland. It’s too soon to start crowing.

Thebirth · 08/05/2026 08:21

I really like her. I’ll vote concernatibe as long as she is leader. She’s principled and intelligent. She reminds me of the sort of politicians we used to have until David Cameron marked the start of a long decline in the quality of politicians.

TBF thats partly our fault as an electorate. Being an MP is a thankless job, not well paid, and subject to abuse. No wonder people with genuine talent leave and What we have remaining are increasingly ideologues. - see Reform and the Greens ( even more so), the independent Gaza MPs as well as a sizeable faction of the Labour Party.

Bushmillsbabe · 08/05/2026 09:23

The results of the local elections are really concerning re Reform

I hope either Starmer makes a dramatic change and fast to regain confidence, it will need to be change people can see and feel personally, rather than just talk and promises, as many people feel really let down. Or that Kemi gains significant ground.

I think most can agree that either of these would be better than Reform or Greens who have no experience in running the country and are at the more extreme ends of political scale. If they do get in, it's Starmer and Co to blame.

Maybe the best scenario we can realistically hope for is no overall majority and a labour conservative coalition, to hopefully acheive a centre balance. Although this may lead to a load of arguing and nothing getting done at all.

eyeballer · 08/05/2026 09:25

I am quite shocked the Tories lost so many seats tbh (labour less so). Have the seats the Tories lost also gone to Reform?

Wibble128 · 08/05/2026 09:28

I believe a core problem for the UK is the politicisation of the Civil Servce (CS). The work of those who adopted the approach of the long march through the institutions as a method of weakening the UK is nearly done.

Regardless of her and indeed her parties stance or statements and indeed those of Reform etc, any policy that does not reflect the aims of the Left will be stopped by the Civil Service. The removal of political neutrality from the CS started in the Universities where the current crop of CS influencers from were trained, has now enabled a blocking of any policy that does not help destory the British way of life. This is reflected in other bodies such as the NHS.
The CS and other public bodies need a good clean out and reminding they are Public Servants.

We won’t know until all the results are in. The Tory losses were also predicted, it will take them more than one electoral cycle to recover.

It's not so bad I dont think. The salary doesn't look amazing on paper but gets doubled in expenses.

A labour MP I know through our children, has a full time nanny, a 2nd home, very smart cars, fully paid through both maternity leaves, lots of expensive holidays, oldest moving to private school in September. Her other half is in a fairly standard job so it's definitely her salary keeping them afloat.

She isn't particularly smart, so I don't think she would earn more than she currently does as an MP if she worked in the private sector.

The issue is Reform has taken the wider right end of the conservative vote. Which puts them in a difficult position - do they go more right to try and reclaim this, but potentially lose the centre right.

It's the same with labour, they have lost the far left to the Greens.

@Bushmillsbabe I said on a thread the other day that I think the worst thing is more division. I feel a bit alone as I’m a mix of centre.
