The armed forces have always been referred to as the services. My ex RAF dad used the term - he’d have been 110 now.

Armed forces yes, services yes, but not armed services. I've never heard that.

KB on NI developments..

Badenoch said the scenes of disorder there were "deeply, deeply disturbing", adding that "people have a right to be angry... but no one has a right to burn families out of their homes or to burn public property and attack the police"

Yes thank you KB.

She was great again today at PMQs 👏

He called them the 'Armed Services'??? Surely not

It gets worse with his Defence secretary now resigning. Another one of his ministers with no confidence in Starner. This is serious stuff.

A government in complete disarray. Extraordinary when they have a majority.
I hope it’s Kemi who benefits and not Farage or the Greens

It should be all over, yet he's clinging on! Absolute shambles.

If only Kemi could take over.

WaffleBomb · 11/06/2026 16:07

Kemi's questions yesterday at PMQs were spot on.
I wonder if she knew that Healey was about to go?

I Heard it really is, one can't have the defence secretary resign on the basis the PM isn't protecting the country, and the PM survives..

He's lost all authority and control now. It should be Starmer and Reeves resigning, not John Healey.

Tick tock..

Al Carns resigns as armed forces minister
Al Carns has resigned as armed forces minister, hours after John Healey resigned as defence secretary.

I have watched, as a Marine, what war looks like now. I have spoken to those who have seen it up close in Ukraine. The lesson is uncomfortable and it is unambiguous. The character of conflict is changing faster than our procurement can keep up with. We are still purchasing capability suitable for the last war while our adversaries arm for the next one. Platforms that cost billions can be defeated by systems that cost thousands. Any serious Defence Investment Plan has to start from that reality.

While I had no hand in the Defence Investment Plan, that distance does allow me to say plainly that it is not built for the threat we face. It is neither transformative enough nor sufficiently funded. We are asking our Armed Forces to operate in a more dangerous world on a budget written for a calmer one.

I have sat in the rooms, seen the assessments, and spoken to the commanders who will be asked to do more with less, and I cannot in good conscience stand at the dispatch box and defend a level of investment I know to be inadequate to the task. A serious country funds its defence to meet the threat it actually faces, not the threat it wishes it faced.

Tick tock ⏰️

I saw his interview with Cathy Newman. His resignation letter was published less than an hour later. Did he jump, or was he pushed?
Healey's PPS has also gone this evening.

I imagine he jumped. He’s one of a tiny handful of people who could do a really good job as defence minister. He’d written the letter before the interview.

Wow. Someone needs to listen. Another PM as Starmer won’t.

WaffleBomb · 12/06/2026 08:36

Kemi on X this morning:-

First the Defence Secretary resigned saying the government is making the country and our troops less safe.

Then the Veterans Minister went, saying the government is abandoning our veterans and it’s harming our national defence.

It’s clear the armed forces have lost all faith in Keir Starmer. A Prime Minister who cannot command the respect of our military cannot continue in office.

Britain’s national security must come before Keir Starmer’s ego. The Prime Minister’s time is up.

Upstartled · 12/06/2026 08:40

I'm not sure there's anything to argue with there, just more common sense delivered without prevarication by Kemi.

Twiglets1 · 12/06/2026 08:46

Another own goal by Starmer.

It’s taken until now but finally I’m agreeing with people who say he has to go. His instincts just seem all wrong.

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 12/06/2026 08:49

Kemi’s top team look like some fairly normal human beings. I can’t see how KS can survive this but he appears to have few morals and little regard for public feeling so I’m sure he’ll hang on.

LuckyHazelFox · 12/06/2026 08:50

I wish she was leading this country right now. This defence business is really worrying.
