Whilst she went into side to drop of her children. It was off nursery premises and she works part time and children attend the nursery as well.

Aibu to report it? She does it daily.

Is this a joke? Why would you care if someone leaves their car running that's up to them

StephensLass1977 · 06/05/2026 13:15

Report her for what? What did I miss?

This is becoming like "cancel the cheque".

Leaving your engine running while parked is illegal.

Leaving a car running..... Yeah all well until her kid in the back of the car goes on the handbrake and her car crushes a kid????

Yes, it's illegal.

However, your main concern obviously wasn't for the child in the back as they weren't even mentioned in your original post and have now appeared in the story.
You only mentioned the woman leaving the car running while taking her children to nursery.

It's illegal, environmentally harmful, dangerous and stupid.

Leaving a tonne of unattended machinery running in an area busy with distracted young children and mothers is an accident waiting to happen

Aposterhasnoname · 06/05/2026 13:18

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 13:09

When you park, you usually leave it in first gear. It won't roll of the handbrake isn't engaged. A car can roll forward on a slight incline.

@Aposterhasnoname , it is relevant. Can you drive a car?

Off course I can drive a car, what an utterly bizarre question. The PP was talking about a nursery banning siblings from being left in the car. What has that got to do with leaving a car running, or the fact that a car can roll on a slight incline?

The sibling would be in the car when it rolled forward.

To quote the great Irish philosopher Sister George Michael "You might want to think about wising up"...

Moveoverdarlin · 06/05/2026 13:21

Why don’t you take her keys, just for a laugh to spice up the morning school run.

lornad00m · 06/05/2026 13:24

If you're lucky someone will knick it.

Then this torturous atrocity will be at an end. And you'll be able to move on with your life.

A bit bruised psychologically. But ultimately stronger for the experience.

And maybe in the future you could write a book about it, sell the film rights and Angelina Jolie could play your role.

Strength and honour. 😜

This is illegal because it's DANGEROUS. Her unattended car could crush a child. Her own child could end up being taken by a car thief too. I hope you don't have a driving licence, if you truly cannot understand the severity of this.

I do but you’ve made me feel so guilty now I’ve just haded myself into the police and dropped my licence back off at the dvla on route. Thank you so so much for your words 🩷🩷🩷🩷

I think k it's only illegal to leave car running when parked on a public road. Was she on a public road?

How old are the children?
Our nursery have a blanket ban on leaving any siblings in the car when dropping off children, so they would absolutely want this reported.
The fact the car is left running is a massive worry. I still remember my siblings and I being left in a car whilst my mum popped in somewhere, we were messing about and one of us knocked the handbrake off and we started rolling down the hill, luckily my older sister knew how to stop it, otherwise it could have been an awful situation.
So yes. I would

I dont understand people logic with this old day story 🙄
Im sure the kids were fine and the people
like you need to get over the maybe's

Jenasaurus · 06/05/2026 13:30

was the car unlocked as well with a child in the car? that would make me so anxious, someone could steal the car and the child

MilkyLeonard · 06/05/2026 13:31

FinchiePink · 06/05/2026 12:56

The police deal with far more than just murder you know.

Thank you; I’ll be sure to make a note of that.

It’s precisely the police have a lot to deal with that they won’t be springing into action at a report of car idling that had zero consequences.

Are you unhinged?

Apart from the air pollution we don't leave cars running whilst we aren't in them

You are so so right. I’ve never in my life left my car idle, never left my kids in the car, no points on my licence and never been in an accident. I’m an absolute monster of a driver and should never ever be on a road again.

Are you one of these that walks your children across petrol forecourts? Holding everyone up and more dangerous than just popping in and paying?

No who is doing that? If I have my kids in the car I go to a pay at pump like a normal person?
