Whilst she went into side to drop of her children. It was off nursery premises and she works part time and children attend the nursery as well.

Aibu to report it? She does it daily.

I had no idea you weren’t allowed to leave a car engine running. I’ve been driving for 30 years. I do it every winter to defrost my windscreen as the fans are awful and take an age. Better watch I’m not your neighbour 😬

You really should know these things.

I had someone banging on my window a few months ago as I was waiting outside school. She was pretending to cough and DEMANDING I turn my ignition off as it was affecting her lung condition, apparently 🙄

Car exhaust pollution is recognised as a killer.

That aside, why do you do it? You must know that it makes the air around your car toxic and if you were sitting outside a school then it’s children who are inhaling those poisons. Don’t you care?

Pour slightly warm water over the ice instead, keep your ignition and wipers on. Job done.

Or, get a windscreen cover for overnights.

Well I’ve survived this long and will still defrost my car. Re fumes, perhaps it was an electric car?

Edited

It’s the inside that’s the bigger issue. Fans are crap, wiping just smears

Growlybear83 · 06/05/2026 17:47

If she left a young child in the car whilst it was running and unattended then I think that’s quite serious. But if she just leaves the engine running withiut a child inside, I can’t believe that anyone would give a toss.

If your car gets nicked then don't complain about it.

Are you seriously saying you’ve never considered that pumping toxic fumes into the environment unnecessarily wasn’t good?
As for defrosting windscreens, what’s wrong with a bit of hot water?

Hot water bottles on the dashboard for ten minutes work a treat ime.

Oh so presumably you go round reporting all your neighbours and every car you pass that's parked in the road at night that's facing the direction of traffic.

And I assume you always ensure you never park overnight facing direction of traffic, and naturally if that toad is over a 30 limit, you also keep your lights on....

No. Why would you think that?

What I was doing was answering somebody else's question asking what the driver could be reported for.

I've answered that question.

I haven't said or suggested anybody should be reported for anything.

You were idling unnecessarily, which is illegal.

My car is electric! It’s impossible to sit in it without the ignition coming on! There is no engine!

Is there any reason why you can't just ask her not to leave her car running and let her know why it's a bad idea?

Any reason she needs to treated like she belongs in the nursery herself, and allowed to do illegal things while we all treat her a precious child who needs teaching?

Makes a change from entitled cyclists then.

Yes those annoying cyclists polluting the air

To make it move the engine needs to come on
....it doesn't run on wind

They don’t have engines he’s, they have motors.

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ It has a MOTOR! It doesn’t produce any emissions! EVs are ZERO EMISSION VEHICLES!

Good grief. Critical thinking, PLEEEEEEASE

EVs sort of do run on wind

(or solar / other renewables etc)

Off the point, but really? Electric cars switch on their engines just because someone sits in them? That sounds, um, odd.

How do you think electricity is made? With gas.

People who leave their cars idling are probably the type to throw litter out of their cars as well. Just selfish people who don't care about the affect they have on their surroundings

what a weird presumption, the two things are not connected. I
often sit with my car running (because cancer treatment means my ability to regulate my body temperature is fucked) but I don’t drop litter.

Yes, the ignition switches on when you sit in them and then you go, there is no starting of any engine. The motor doesn’t need ‘starting’
Think of a remote control car

My electricity that I use, is made purely from wind turbines!
