Whilst she went into side to drop of her children. It was off nursery premises and she works part time and children attend the nursery as well.

Aibu to report it? She does it daily.

It’s only illegal on a public road, not sure this is the case here?

OP hasn't mentioned it being on private land, she's only said "off nursery premises", which to me implies in a public area.

Report it if you want to make a fool of yourself.

Make a fool of herself for reporting something illegal?

thefloorislavayes · 06/05/2026 12:50

I think you should pick up a hobby instead

Butterme · 06/05/2026 12:51

I will never understand why people leave a car idling.

Surely it wastes fuel and it takes 2 seconds to restart the engine.

Who is she reporting this to?

ClaredeBear · 06/05/2026 12:54

As others have said, idling is illegal and causes pollution. She’s wrong to do this but particularly outside of a school. We have a school close by and I just tell parents who do this. They’re also told by the school not to do it.

Make a fool of herself for reporting something illegal?

It’s not a bloody murder!

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 12:55

Witchonenowbob · 06/05/2026 12:29

So who do you report it to?

The police.

FinchiePink · 06/05/2026 12:56

MilkyLeonard · 06/05/2026 12:54

It’s not a bloody murder!

The police deal with far more than just murder you know.

PullyDog · 06/05/2026 12:20

Close enough 😂

Give it a couple more pages and she might add a dog too

OP's manoeuvres are the only remotely interesting thing about this thread.

tnorfotkcab · 06/05/2026 12:51

Who is she reporting this to?

The same organisations I stated in my first comment: Operation Snap (police), the council (they fine for this), and SS for leaving the child unattended for so long, daily, in a running car without a driver.

asdbaybeeee · 06/05/2026 13:00

How old is the child in the car?

How old are the children?
Our nursery have a blanket ban on leaving any siblings in the car when dropping off children, so they would absolutely want this reported.
The fact the car is left running is a massive worry. I still remember my siblings and I being left in a car whilst my mum popped in somewhere, we were messing about and one of us knocked the handbrake off and we started rolling down the hill, luckily my older sister knew how to stop it, otherwise it could have been an awful situation.
So yes. I would

That can happen if car isn't running. I live on a steep hill and seen it loads

Surely it wastes fuel and it takes 2 seconds to restart the engine.

And if you have to do it 50 times a day it kills the battery

MrsChristmasHasResigned · 06/05/2026 11:31

Whats that got to do with anything? I am fortunately not around places where kids are and if one parent wants to poison the air that their children and others are breathing, I have no buy in. I also think if people are assholes enough to do this they are not likely to be open to a stranger telling them to stop. But if I had kids playing and another parent was doing this - yes, I would report, tell them to stop, whatever.

And if it's an electric car?

MrsJeanLuc · 06/05/2026 13:05

EnglishBrits · 06/05/2026 10:41

Leaving a car running..... Yeah all well until her kid in the back of the car goes on the handbrake and her car crushes a kid????

I don't see that it makes much difference from a safety point of view if the engine is running or not (I do understand the point about pollution).

If the handbrake is knocked off (is that even possible with modern cars, aren't they all electronic nowadays?) the car will only roll if it's on a hill and it will roll whether the engine is running or not.

Surely the main issue is leaving children unattended in the car.

MyCottageGarden · 06/05/2026 13:05

ThisOneLife · 06/05/2026 09:13

What business is it if gets if her and other children have to breath in poisonous fumes?
Pollution causes death and is responsible for global warming.

It’s illegal to leave an unattended car with the engine running and the insurance is negated.

YANBU

Incorrect. It’s only illegal if there is no cause to leave it running

What has this got to do with leaving the engine running?

MyCottageGarden · 06/05/2026 13:07

I had someone banging on my window a few months ago as I was waiting outside school. She was pretending to cough and DEMANDING I turn my ignition off as it was affecting her lung condition, apparently 🙄

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 13:09

When you park, you usually leave it in first gear. It won't roll of the handbrake isn't engaged. A car can roll forward on a slight incline.

@Aposterhasnoname , it is relevant. Can you drive a car?

nam3c4ang3 · 06/05/2026 13:10

😂 I have just taken a break from a 300 page report i have to read and this has made me laugh. Yes, its illegal, no the police wont care, yes perhaps speak to the person involved, yes, she will think your a knob. Yes, you are doing the right thing. HTH.

You were idling unnecessarily, which is illegal.

LBFseBrom · 06/05/2026 13:14

I googled and found this regarding leaving a car engine running while you pop in and out of somewhere:

"It violates Rule 123 of the Highway Code, which states you "must not leave a vehicle’s engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road."

Is it a public road or car park?

Whatever I wouldn't grass on someone for that, she is not doing any harm if she is in and out quickly.

My goodness, you are observant. I wouldn't even notice!

Delivery drivers do it all the time.

If "the kid in the back goes on the handbrake" then the engine being on or off wont make any difference to it rolling or not. And I notice now everyone's saying MYOB, suddenly there's a kid left in the back which you didn't think was important enough to mention before. What are the chances eh?
