Whilst she went into side to drop of her children. It was off nursery premises and she works part time and children attend the nursery as well.

Aibu to report it? She does it daily.

Yes it is illegal and if she is parked on nursery property then yes report her to her manager.

Take a week's worth of videos of it, then report it to Operation Snap, and to the council @EnglishBrits , heck, if there's a child in there too, you could even go for SS aswell.

Shocked at the amount of people on here who are clueless as to this being illegal. Mind you, I shouldn't be shocked, given the amount of parents idling for over half an hour whilst waiting for the school by my house to finish.

Note to all the drivers on this thread who didn't know this was illegal - so is middle lane hogging!

Social services? For the 2 whole minutes it takes to get out of the car, stop a child into nursery and get back in the car? The same amount of time you’d spend paying at a petrol station?
They do walk among us. First born, I take it?

If you joke in one post then you probably joke in others.

And if you are a humourless dickhead on the internet you probably are in real life too

AgnesMcDoo · 06/05/2026 13:51

Some people would be happier living in a police state.

Always wanting to ‘report’
people.

bet you miss the pandemic

BTW social services are not the parenting police for those who want to ‘report’ to them

Piccante · 06/05/2026 13:52

EnglishBrits · 06/05/2026 13:31

Are you unhinged?

Apart from the air pollution we don't leave cars running whilst we aren't in them

Actually, a lot of people leave cars running whilst they aren’t in them - as did she, and hence this post.

Statistically, her car is more likely to be stolen whilst idling than her child killing someone by releasing the handbrake..

Thechaseison71 · 06/05/2026 13:54

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 13:20

The sibling would be in the car when it rolled forward.

Still nothing to do with it running

ERthree · 06/05/2026 13:43

Is it illegal on private property though?

Where's the rules saying that?

No who is doing that? If I have my kids in the car I go to a pay at pump like a normal person?

What if there is no pay at pump option? What then?

Thechaseison71 · 06/05/2026 13:57

EnglishBrits · 06/05/2026 13:28

Of course she was on a public road

Why of course? How does anyone know whether the nursery has a car park

AgnesMcDoo · 06/05/2026 13:58

And for those clutching their pearls about the legality - if you do ‘report’ the usual enforcement is that a council officer asks the driver to switch the engine off and if they refuse, they can receive a Fixed Penalty Notice of £20.

Fill your boots.

Withthe2Ls · 06/05/2026 13:39

Maybe those who don't have pay at pump. Like pretty much every bp and esso

Wishingplenty · 06/05/2026 13:59

Small minded petty people like you are ridiculous. If it bothers you that much try talking to her face to face, but you won't will you? because you are a nasty coward that likes to make trouble for people. Come on tell us? Who else have you reported in your small petty world? This can't be the first time you have tried causing trouble for someone just living their life.

BleedinglyObvious · 06/05/2026 14:00

@Piccante , A car rolling forward could cause life changing injuries or fatalities in this situation.

If your car gets nicked you'd probably not be looking at a manslaughter charge.
In either case, the insurance would not be on your side.

ooh, I dunno - social workers have bog-all to do and are grateful to be given reports like this...🙄

Ah fair enough, my 3 local all have pay at pump so I assumed it was a common thing. Never been in that situation with my children before but in answer to the previous poster it that was the case the yes I would take them in rather than leave them in the car and there wasn’t a pay at the pump drivable before I ran out of fuel.

HarshbutTrue2 · 06/05/2026 14:05

Alternatively, Op could speak to stressed mum and offer to keep an eye on her car and child whilst she delivers the child into the nursery.
It's called being kind and helping out.
Why am I the only person to have thought of this.

I'd report them because it is illegal and irresponsible behaviour, not because I am petty and small-minded.

The safety of little children and their mothers is the important thing.

Ah see if rather leave mine in the car safely than trek 3 of them across a forecout

Stressed?

What makes you think she's stressed?

Also why don't you instantly think she can make the environment safer for others and not being illegal by turning of her car engine?

JohnofWessex · 06/05/2026 14:08

It is an offence to leave a vehicle unattended on a public road with the engine running.

Kitt1 · 06/05/2026 14:13

It’s illegal to leave the engine running with no-one responsible sat in the car. As in ‘a criminal offence’.

I’m really surprised so many of you are completely unaware of this?

Yes, report her to the police as she’s being very irresponsible. Accidents do happen otherwise no one would need car insurance. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤷🏻‍♀️
