Well when you have people running round a thread basically posting how wonderful she is and ignoring anything negative about her - I can see why people are saying that

It's a bubble on here. The Tories are set to drop in Scotland tomorrow with Reform picking up votes. I'd personally be worrying more about Farage and less about Starmer

It’s not a bubble, if it is it’s the opposite. She is leading in approval ratings and Starmer is way behind. Focus groups are positive about KB the opposite for KS.

The party needs to catch up to her leadership ratings, for Starmer he may well be the thing that drags Labour way down and they’ll have to decide what to do.

As for ‘running around’ no it’s just views, as you have a pro Labour / left one.

So don't vote for her 🤷‍♂️

The poll suggests that many like her and will vote for her.

You won’t be shocked to learn I won’t be voting for her, I’m just engaging with the debate as per the original AIBU post.

Genuinely though, whenever I listen to Tories like Warsi, Hague, Clark and Heseltine speak more recently, I hope that the Conservative Party can return to something more like them (even though I’m very much not a Tory and disagree with them on lots!) and distance themself from comments like Timothy’s - we all need a decent right-wing alternative to Reform, Jenrick, etc.

Will be interesting to see which way the wind blows when Labour is hobbled on Thursday. I don't see Starmer lasting too much longer.

I find the problem with Kemi is that I don't know what she stands for. She was in the administration of Johnson, Truss and Sunak but she did not use that time in power to take things forward.

I think Kemi has justifiably been accused of jumping on the "bandwagon" after years of not raising the issue while in power.

I don’t know what she stands for either. I haven’t heard her or any member of the shadow cabinet articulate a single policy since she’s been leader. The opposition strategy appears to be almost entirely reactive.

And Major.

It’s the same old from the usual suspects as they keep using. Happily that type of posting hasn’t helped Starmer or Labour at all. Good stuff.

why would posting on mn have any effect on the government

itsnotallaboutyouyousee · 06/05/2026 11:24

BIossomtoes · 06/05/2026 10:56

Nobody’s panicking. We all know the government will suffer a drubbing tomorrow. So will the official opposition. The current fragmentation in politics surprises nobody.

Ok panicking probably not the right word in this case. falling into deep despair and lashing out when people support Kemi B (eg. calling them 'fan girls' surprisingly), might be a more accurate description.

I think it's quite something that people are saying how wonderful she is in opposition given the damage the Tories did to the economy when they were in power. Im no fan of Labour either btw . And all this - she speaks her mind and it's so refreshing - lots of women politicians do including Black women. Many of them get ridiculed for their views

She's not the first MP to back single sex spaces. She's not the first MP to speak out in support of Jews

People can say anything in opposition - it's what they do when they are in power that matters.

Upstartled · 06/05/2026 11:28

At least all the local elections are going ahead.

BIossomtoes · 06/05/2026 11:28

TheLandlordsAreFrowning · 06/05/2026 11:23

And Major.

I watched the recent interview with Major with my head in my hands. He was my MP and managed to combine being an excellent constituency MP with holding three of the great offices of state. I found myself wishing he’d come out of retirement and take the Tory party back to the one he led.

Whatever Labour supporters post, anger at other views whatever, it’s having the opposite effect. They’re losing support each week.

I think for some regulars here, MN is their world, so they think it’s all very significant and important.

What does this have to do with mumsnet? Other places have a much wider reach. Twitter for example. Do you think someone isn't going to vote Labour because of this thread?

TicketsAgain · 06/05/2026 11:30

Not at all. I think a few Labour / left posters get very hung up on dissenting voices hence the repeated posts below.

Anyone who doesn’t like Labour really isn’t the cause of your party’s or the left’s problems. You need to look at the cause not posters on here.

It’s really not anything to do with us that they are tanking, as much as some feel it is.

itsnotallaboutyouyousee · 06/05/2026 11:33

Absolutely astonishing really, isn't it. When we look back to the heady summer of 2024, and all of that good will for the Labour Party. 2 years later and they're in the toilet. Quite the achievement Sir Keir.

Keni Badenoch who said maternity leave had "gone too far"?!
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c781m9v4255o

Indeed. That one put her immense cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy on show. She was banging on about how people need to contribute and be self-sufficient yet she dropped out of the workforce for several years after having children and lived off her wealthy husband. In Kemi’s view, only those who have married someone rich should have any time with their baby or to recover from birth.

Her comments about autistic children were also shameful, vile and ignorant.

BeanQuisine · 06/05/2026 11:34

Suffice to know that those lauding Kemi today, are the same posters who not so long ago were lauding Rishi, Lizzi, Borri, Terri and Davey....the whole grotesque and useless clown show, for whose swift return they deeply yearn.

TicketsAgain · 06/05/2026 11:34

Another irritation here is when people think that because you are sceptical of Badenoch, it means you are automatically a Labour supporter. It’s not that simple.

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:35

The predictions for tomorrows Council elections are that Reform and the Greens are going to make gains and the Tories are going to suffer losses particularly in the south of England. Just because Labour are in freefall doesn't mean gains for the Tories.

They are going to suffer losses in Scotland too with Reform the Greens and the Lib Dems all picking up support

They’ve still got the same problem they had then with their swivel-eyed anti-Europe loons, Kemi Badeonch being one of them. Once they expel those they might become electable again.

I haven't voted Labour in well over a decade

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:37

I do think it's funny when people attribute all these views to "the left" as if anyone who has left wing views are pretty much the same person

Kemi stands for whatever Kemi thinks will be popular that week.
