Absolutely astonishing really, isn't it. When we look back to the heady summer of 2024, and all of that good will for the Labour Party. 2 years later and they're in the toilet. Quite the achievement Sir Keir.

Reading this thread. Good.

Senescence · 06/05/2026 11:34

Indeed. That one put her immense cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy on show. She was banging on about how people need to contribute and be self-sufficient yet she dropped out of the workforce for several years after having children and lived off her wealthy husband. In Kemi’s view, only those who have married someone rich should have any time with their baby or to recover from birth.

Her comments about autistic children were also shameful, vile and ignorant.

And that fact that someone who used to be Minister for Women and Equalities made these comments is, frankly, mind-boggling: given she held that role innocent ignorance is not plausible so the only available explanation is deliberate malice.

I find the problem with Kemi is that I don't know what she stands for. She was in the administration of Johnson, Truss and Sunak but she did not use that time in power to take things forward.

I think Kemi has justifiably been accused of jumping on the "bandwagon" after years of not raising the issue while in power.

She absolutely took women's issues forward, and her appointment of Baroness Falkner was inspired.

Her main Ministerial role was International Trade. What is your evidence that she did not work hard to move things in this arena forward?

Previously she resigned from a Ministerial position because she disagreed with Boris' leadership.

What more are you asking for? Part of being part of Government is to work as a team, contribute to9 the consensus, but not to provide continuous dissent.

BIossomtoes · 06/05/2026 11:44

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:44

Well you only need to look at Scotland to see that Labour are red Tories. No surprise to me how useless they have been since coming to power.

MulberryBrandy · 06/05/2026 11:45

Senescence · 06/05/2026 11:38

Kemi stands for whatever Kemi thinks will be popular that week.

It must be very difficult for Kemi to have come back to the House, after the last GE, with so many fewer MPs and then to have lost some of the prominent ones.

Hallowedturf · 06/05/2026 11:45

All this debate is all well and good, but, to coin one of Labour’s favourite phrases, I remain ‘laser focused’ on tomorrow and the subsequent psychodrama surrounding the probable implosion of this wretched government.

Instead of governing and making a positive difference to people’s lives, they are busy u-turning, not vetting, tax fiddling, not communicating, and generally making a hash of anything they do.

Fun times.

We’re paying more for Labour’s infighting rn too in borrowing costs.

I think, as others have said, she seems opportunistic rather than to have a conviction. I will give you the example, from where I took jumping on the "bandwagon" after years of not raising the issue while in power.

Inspired? The HoL should be abolished. It's nothing but a gravy train. And she gets paid 50k a year for 100 days work in the role Badenoch appointed her to yes?

What did Badenoch do to improve women's rights apart from blocking self ID in Scotland?

Hallowedturf · 06/05/2026 11:50

FT - now.

One senior Labour MP said: “This Angela ramp is nuts. I’ve been testing this for a week on doorsteps with every Labour ‘disillusioned’ I meet. The market for Angela is literally zero to negative.” Rayner’s team insists she has the support needed to fight for the leadership.

Doh!

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:31

What does this have to do with mumsnet? Other places have a much wider reach. Twitter for example. Do you think someone isn't going to vote Labour because of this thread?

Yes

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:52

Her voting record more or less toes the Tory Party line.

if you examine the voting record of nearly every politician of any party you will find that they vote pretty much with their party line

Doh!

She did at least used to have support in her Manchester constituency. Until she tax evaded and bought her flat by the sea in Sussex, quite a few miles from Ashton-under-lyne. They really don't like her there now. One of us no fcking longer, apparently.

Your obsession with Rayner is quite disturbing. What has any of the above got to do with Badenoch?

JollyDenimSeal · 06/05/2026 11:58

Not all. Several Labour MPs didn't and had the whip removed

Nothing. Angela is bad and Kemi is good I suppose

Does it matter? A booster for discussion is a good thing. We've certainly seen some refreshing views on this thread. So thanks for starting it @Sonato

💙Kemi Badenoch

Of course we've seen the usual slavishly loyal Starmerites, bless them. Panicking for good reason. Ah well at least they'll have something new to talk about by close Friday..

Yes it does matter, as if you're going to say someone talks sense you'd at least think that you'd say what it is you think they're talking sense about!
Oh, and are you 5?! 😂

HobGobblynne · 06/05/2026 12:04

itsnotallaboutyouyousee · 06/05/2026 11:51

Yes

Ah well you've won that argument then. I tend to take my political information from sources other than ihatethegovernment99 on an internet forum, but if you would be influenced by the opinions of strangers then I guess that's why we see the impact of an internet chat room differently.

Ask this question on the Feminism board!

However short answer by prioritising the rights of women over male trans-rights activists.

Of course mn is a factor, hence politicians bothering to do web chats and putting out press releases covering it.

But generally SM is a factor and the angry approach from Labour isn’t really working here or anywhere.

😆 Think what you like, or 'you do you' isn't that what they say now. Yes vomit, a bit like 'fan girls'. But anyway, I digress.

At least one of us understands human behaviour.. But which one?
