I don’t understand her position on banning marches.

Banning extremist marches is sensible. When the green party considers Gaza more of a priority than the UK economy because of religious sympathy issues, the green party is toast. I didn't like them before that, but the notion of adding 1% to my tax bill to rebuild Hamas tunnels in Gaza.... on which planet am I, a British woman, going to vote in favour of such idiocy? Never!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 05/05/2026 21:01

What PMQs have you been watching?!

It’s like an episode of Friends ‘The one where Starmer wipes the floor with the opposition leader at PMQ’s’….

WaffleBomb · 05/05/2026 21:03

GingerRhubarb · 05/05/2026 21:00

This! Except I think she would as she has no policies!!!

Because the opposition parties don't release a manifesto until the GE campaign.

Pro Palestine marches are not extremist. People have the right to march for Palestine if they have the right to march for Robinson

Is that a Green policy? Surely not!

Kokonimater · 05/05/2026 21:06

Omg no. No. Do not trust a single word she says. She’s dangerous.

Oh come on every other opposite party has something! She has zilch- just criticism of Starmer.

Papyrophile · 05/05/2026 21:08

It is a policy proposal by candidates closely linked to the Green Party @Desperatelyseekinglazysusan .

JollyDenimSeal · 05/05/2026 21:10

I am 57 and I have been marching all my life for many causes. If people allow Tommy Robinson to march they allow people to march for Palestine. I have Palestinian friends. I am not an extremist and I don't vote green either.

I would be happy to pay money to help the people of Palestine. My mum and I used to visit asylum seekers in Dungavel in Scotland and I've seen the back stories - my friend disappeared after being granted asylum as he was so scared of being sent back to be killed by the Israelis. We never saw or heard from him again

He was told he would be shot on sight if he stepped off a plane

By the way. I don't like Polsnski either. I think he's a career politician but I really am not going to sit on this thread and clap kemi when she's pro Tommeh and against people marching for Palestine. That will be the hill I die on

I know. Her team are working overtime. She must be desperate to start threads on MN!

Perhaps she is worried about her own position when it becomes apparent that 500+ seats have been lost on her watch? Johnson only lasted about four months after losing a similar number.

Google is your friend if you are genuinely interested in what she's said so far. I'll give you scrapping stamp duty, and scrapping PS Vat as a starter.
But I stand by my comment that we don't know what will be in the manifestos until the GE. Opposition parties don't have/need policies. Their job is to oppose the government. The clue is in the name.

Because Islamophobia doesn’t ever seem to be highlighted by politicians. As a voter I care about both. Islamophobia and Antisemitism are both sickening. The vile actions of Israel are escalating misery and hatred around the world. I do think this needs to be recognised and the right for peaceful protest needs to be highlighted whilst also highlighting how there is no place for anti semitism , Islamophobia or any other hate crime in society.

“Islamophobia” is a term made up by the Muslim brotherhood to deflect legitimate questioning of Islamic extremism. For example 75% of Mi5’s watch list are Muslim. All the attacks on British Jews have been carried out by Muslims. Pakistani Muslim grooming gangs used allegations of racism to keep operating. Cousin marriage is causing material strain on the NHS in parts of the UK. We need to be able to discuss these things.

Middle Eastern countries are baffled as to why we tolerate extremism.

if you think Israel is more of a problem than Iran, Russia, China or the Taliban then you come across as motivated by anti semitism.

Dymaxion · 05/05/2026 21:13

Unless you live in north Essex you won't be voting for her anyway, we vote for a MP in a GE, that's the person who is going to represent you in Parliament. Pointless voting because you like the leader of the party unless they are your MP, or you are a member of the party ?
Even if she got in the next election, the Conservatives would be plotting her demise before she had chance to choose the new wallpaper for No 10.

Muslim schools in some areas have also introduced security guards so it isn't true to say that security is only a requirement for Jewish schools in the country.

Also if we are talking about children being targeted, last year in Newton Mearns a hijab wearing 15 year old school girl was attacked. And a few years ago a 14 year old Muslim girl was attacked by 2 adults on a bus in South Yorkshire. A woman repeatedly punched her while a man yelled anti Muslim slurs at her. Both of these incidents were in the local news.

Both communities are targets of bigotry and racism and sadly children of both communities are at risk.

There are 6 million or so Muslims in the UK and less than 300,000 Jews. Yet the risk of antisemitic attacks are higher

Scrapping Private school fees!🤣Is that it? Not sure that will go down well with the majority of the electorate who can’t afford private. Jeez she’s hardly going to walk into Downing Street with that.

Reform of the welfare state.

Something Starmer could not get past his back benches….

JollyDenimSeal · 05/05/2026 21:15

Let's stop this nonsense that if you are pro Palestine you are anti semitic. Because it's horse shit. Maybe ask Corbyn on that one. Cousin marriage. Give me strength

Papyrophile · 05/05/2026 21:17

I don't do marches, mainly because we don't have many locally. We prefer to turn out for health initiatives and charity fundraisers. But when I have encountered pro-Palestinian activists in my local city centre and decline to agree with them, I have been shouted at. Shame on you. To which my response is "Shame on you" for being taken in by a repressive, anti-liberal, homophobic bunch of control freaks who are as bonkers as the Wee Frees. Religion driven control is all drivel. Anyone who buys the biscuit is a fool.

HermioneWeasley · 05/05/2026 21:19

Anyway, back to the point of the thread. I’ve found Kemi consistently impressive. She was on top of her brief when she was women and equalities minister and she’s really
grown in stature as leader of the opposition.

she’s got principles and seem to stand by them rather than flip flopping.
