The current situation in the Strait of Hormuz could slide back into war. It was a severe transgression of Kemi to want to rush after Trump. Nothing could be more serious.

She called for the UK to allow the US to use our airbases- Starmer initially refused then U-turned 24 hours later.
Then when our airbases were attacked, Kemi called for the UK to be more stringent in defending them - "going after the archer rather than just catching arrows". The US were performing this function on our behalf.

That is not calling for the UK to join the war.

Not according to the electorate it isn’t.

Sorry about that.

Oh, they won't let actual facts get in the way of a bit of Labour spin, @WaffleBomb.

The families who get child poverty payments in Scotland are on benefits. They also qualify for holiday hunger clubs. There was a club in my area called club 365 because it fed kids every day of the year. If there wasn't child poverty none of these initiatives would be needed

The Scottish govt also give a free school meal to kids from p1-p5. Again these initiatives are needed

What errors and omissions?

Maybe we should draw up a table of Tory, Reform and Labour errors and omissions and compare.

With the obvious distinction between the incumbents, and the opposition.

i.e. Government policy directly impacts the lives of many of us.

She didn’t, they don’t see their correspondence. It was written by a civil servant.

Quite - my point was I have written to my MP many times, and only once has a cabinet minister replied to me.
I'm sure a busy cabinet minister didn't sit down and craft the reply herself, though she did sign it. And she did address the issues I raised in her reply.

That's all right. I am just glad that we don't have the shadow of a war hanging over the country. Fortunately rushing to join Trump was not Kemi's call - this time.

True but I think that lasted for a short time for Starmer and co. Not enough for this week.

What you do have is the inflationary impact of the current conflict, which, Labour are already mismanaging.

Why? Because, instead of governing, they are focused on their wretched leader and his vetting failures, and a potential leadership contest - with one of the front runners dismissive of the bond markets.

You could not make it up.

Now, this IS serious.

Hallowedturf · 05/05/2026 18:00

The whataboutery and deflection will not wash on Thursday.

The chickens always return to roost.

It’s a proxy ballot on Starmer’s leadership.

Edited

The whataboutery and deflection were yours from Badenoch's shortcomings. FWIW I am not a Starmer supporter although I agree with his position on the war.

This thread is asking whether Kemi is talking sense. This is a quick read that tells everyone about her position on the Iran war:

A clever person knows their limitations … Kemi believes she has none | John Crace | The Guardian

Well, the bullshit walks on Thursday.

It’s a proxy ballot on Starmer’s leadership - let’s be honest.

Labour meanwhile are confronted with a pincer movement - Polanski on the left, Farage on the right, and a lame duck PM.

You're under the impression that a party with an ethnic minority leader cannot be racist. Wrong!
The most racial gaslighting I have witnessed, was perpetrated by the Tory Party with an ethnically diverse cabinet.
It was a blatant representation of - I can't be racist, I have black and brown friends.
See the disastrous Liz beating Rishi for leadership, though Rishi was the assumed favourite and far superior candidate.

Exactly! Power to the party that doesn’t have ANY black and brown friends! ✊

Violetparis · 05/05/2026 18:16

I am not a Tory voter but she was very impressive in the clip standing up for the Jewish community and I am grateful that she calls for women to have single sex spaces.

darksideofthetoon · 05/05/2026 18:16

EasternStandard · 05/05/2026 17:58

Not that we’d have enough space for either Reform of the Tories from day 1 under Cameron before we even got on to Brexit and Boris.

Whilst saying maternity pay is excessive.

We can all say meaningless soundbites.

Lots of politicians are pro Jewish - some are Jewish themselves.

Oh, they won't let actual facts get in the way of a bit of Labour spin, @WaffleBomb.

I think you have not read the questions that came before. It has nothing to do with what you are saying? It is about the bad mistakes that Kemi keeps making. Some of it may not be important to you but it is to others. For instance, her recent insensitive video about Northern Ireland. And when she did not know where she was:

Kemi Badenoch mocked for basic Scotland-Wales gaffe | The National

hellotappy · 05/05/2026 18:19

It's passionate here tonight 😂 Kemi must have hit a nerve.

What she did was clever. Rather than making a bland statement like, "we support our Jewish population," she was seen calmly debating a 'free palestine' activist. Like me, many people will have enjoyed seeing the composed and striking Kemi put the zealous protester in its place.

She impresses me on the 2 points I highlighted.
