I can’t wait for Thursday. Labour are finished. Not a single moment too soon. Happy Dayz

Me too. If I could get a ticket I’d go to the count to watch their real time downfall.

TatianasCabbagePie · 02/05/2026 02:50

I can't wait to see that arrogant hypocrite, Keir Starmer walking the plank.

MrThorpeHazell · 02/05/2026 07:33

London will be the real place to watch. Labour have never really had a presence in Outer London but they could even take serious losses in Inner London which once would have been unthinkable.

keepswimming38 · 02/05/2026 07:34

Who do you want to win then?

LottieMary · 02/05/2026 07:34

Well, it’s not a general election…

GuineaPigWig · 02/05/2026 07:34

Who are you hoping to win instead though? Can’t say I am excited by any other option…

Tillow4ever · 02/05/2026 07:35

Be careful what you wish for. I can’t see ANY political party in this country right now that would make people happier. I can, however, see at least one that will make things worse.

IceStationZebra · 02/05/2026 07:36

Haha, no.

IwouldifIcouldreachit · 02/05/2026 07:39

For the first time in my 30+ year voting history, I feel compelled to vote for Labour as they seem to be the best option in my area against Reform. I am politically homeless and don't want to vote for any of them, but I do not want to live in a world where Reform are in power, so must do what I can, even though it is an unpalatable choice.

TheFirmForeheadofHarryMcGuire · 02/05/2026 07:40

Yet another thread attempting to undermine another political party.

We see you.

keepswimming38 · 02/05/2026 07:44

Reform will probably do quite well unfortunately seeing as their average voter age is 61 so they have time on their hands to vote.

So what do you think will happen post election?

Who doesn't have time to vote when you can make a postal votes if you can manage to make it to a polling station for 2 minutes between 7am and 10pm?

Vinvertebrate · 02/05/2026 07:56

It’s going to be a bloodbath, and it’s richly deserved.

Sartre · 02/05/2026 07:56

I agree with the consensus on Politics Joe to be honest. They will face substantial losses, kick Starmer out and pave the way for Rayner and Burnham to return. I think those two are the exact sort of leaders Labour needs. Starmer is as dull as dishwater.

TheFirmForeheadofHarryMcGuire · 02/05/2026 07:58

Labour will be fine. They are internationally respected and that goes a long way.

Clearinguptheclutter · 02/05/2026 08:01

I agree they’ll do
badly at the locals but that’s not the same as being “toast”.
no way will there be a GE anytime soon

I fail to see how any other party can do better, apart from the Lb Dems who are doing a fairly decent job of running our council as far as I can see

The Telegraph is an excellent and reputable political publication, it’s right up there with The Beano.

TheyGrewUp · 02/05/2026 08:03

I have no truck with the wider labour party and consider them an unmanageable bunch of loons who never should have been voted into power. They have unilaterally shown their true colours and have destroyed the UK economy more quickly than I anticipated. Oh how I was shot down by other MNetters when I predicted this.

Kier personally I think is pretty decent and unlike Bliar, one of his predecessors, he hasn't taken us into an illegal war, or sold the gold like Brown, oh but there's no gold to sell - they fucked that up last time.

The best result for us locally will be for the Residents' Association to be trounced. There is something particularly nasty about standing on an independent ticket to hide your left wing core.

West Streeting will make a move

Well they certainly couldn’t do any worse!
I don’t think anyone on the international stage has respect for Starmer. You can see how he is sidelined when they meet. Labour has turned our country into a laughing stock. I am gutted that we have no election in our area so I cannot contribute to his demise.

No matter what happens he won’t have to do anything, you do understand it’s local council elections not a general election?

Yes, I’ll vote Lib Dem over Reform, for local reasons.

The Lib Dems are good at running councils, compared to Reform and Labour.

Unfortunately the Lib Dems nationally have fallen for the genderwang nonsense, which does not indicate intelligence at leadership level.

Maray1967 · 02/05/2026 08:07

No elections here. Most of the Merseyside Councils aren’t up for election this year.
