Pretend you're swallowing a big piece of meat.

Have been to the hospital for a Gastroscopy. Consultant came to have a chat before the procedure, just him and I in the little room.
He explained what would be happening and said " as the tube goes down, pretend you're swallowing a big piece of meat".

I was nervous about the procedure and once it was done, I was chatting to a male friend and mentioned the comment above.
Friend says to report him as that's unacceptable language from a professional and thinks it was a sexual innuendo.

Also thinks it would have been inappropriate to a vegan or someone with eating issues.

YABU : It was an innocent remark.

Why are you not being sedated for the procedure. I had a squirt of lemon flavoured medication and conked out for mine. There’s no chance I could be awake for the procedure.

I should have in hindsight, definitely for next time.

Me too. I go under for mine.

I've had lots of them, never been offered sedation. A bit of numbing spray stuff on one occasion.

OP, your friend sounds like a complete knob/big piece of meat.

I was offered sedation but also told the spray would make me not feel anything, wrong!
Could also feel the tube in my stomach.

Only upside was not having to wait for anesthetic to wear off after.

Yeah, that's complete bollocks. The spray is useless. Sedation doesn't do much either. The only way not to feel anything is to have a proper GA.

Going against the grain here but it could be a bit sleazy... it depends who says it if you know what I mean.

Why meat? Why not big piece of food?

Plumbers and Physiotherapists have definitely said "innocent" things to me before that were sleazy from them but would have been totally innocent if anyone else said them

Edited

Because meat feels completely different to say a roast spud when you swallow a big lump of it...it is more rubber like and doesn't crumble...actually I don't know why I am explaining this because you're as bad as the rather pearl clutching friend

I had the spray and then some drug which made me feel loopy and don’t remember the procedure at all despite being awake the whole time!

I'm only now with this thread, starting to realise that I must be the only one who doesnt consider or notice the texture of different foods in the swallowing part of eating 🤯

Chewing, sure - definitely noticeable. But at the swallowing bit nope.

Fair enough - I'm an outlier I guess!

Oh gosh your friend is weird .
I have had an upper endoscopy and I don’t really remember it .
They can’t fully anaesthetise you , but you can opt for Midazolam.
I also got the throat spray which tastes like hand sanitizer mixed with banana 🤣
I was simply asked to swallow , then swallow again no mention of any food type 🤪🙂

ImogenBrocklehurst · Yesterday 18:07

Oh, FFS!🤦‍♀️ utterly ridiculous.

Definitely having GA next time.
Didn't give much thought to the spray, just trusted that it would work.

That's interesting, getting the spray as well as loopy drugs.
Wasn't offered those, it was either the spray or GA.

Maybe I agreed too quickly to the spray hence not being offered other drugs.
Will ask if there's a next time.

Definitely pervy, there's a lot of naive answers on here. How is eating a piece of meat anything like having a plastic tube shoved down your throat?

But..but…how is sucking cock anything like it either?

rainbowunicorn22 · Yesterday 19:27

he was just trying to describe the action you needed to do, i must admit i would laugh and say as a vegan can i pretend swallowing carrot instead!

OonaStubbs · Yesterday 19:33

Pretty much anything doctors say can be construed sexually if you really want it to be. "You might feel a little prick" etc etc.

nomas · Yesterday 19:35

Going against the grain, but it does seem a bit loaded. Who swallows a big piece of meat whole?!

Hollybollyhughes · Yesterday 20:11

Ridiculous to even consider this was unprofessional. What else would you suggest? Imagine eating a piece of lino. Pathetic to criticise and suggest this was sexual. Who is the perv?

It is a useful descriptor because swallowing a chunk of meat will be an uncomfortable sensation, maybe make you feel like gagging/choking. That is the whole point of not using something soft and easy to swallow to describe it.

exaltedwombat · Yesterday 20:36

WAS it like swallowing a big cock piece of meat?

My immediate thought on seeing the heading (before I read the question) was that this was about an abusive man coercing a woman to perform a certain act. The fact that a medical professional said it to his patient is actually more shocking.

Blades2 · Yesterday 22:30

Lmao this can’t be true? Your friend is being extremely silly if it is.

For goodness sake you have this small minded BS enough airtime to go running to Mumsnet. Give me strength.
