The crime wave from overseas gang led, drug dealing, money laundering, fake cigarettes, etc dominating our High Streets.

Mandy has short dark hair, is wearing a dark textured jacket and small drop earrings, and is turned slightly to one side with the face in profile.

'We will kill you and burn your house': Council staff under attack from High Street gangs

Dozens of Trading Standards officers describe intimidation from criminals running mini-marts and vape shops.

I approached a security guard in a shopping centre the other day to ask him directions to somewhere. He was Bangladeshi or possibly Indian I think, and barely spoke any English. I mean barely.

Why we need to import someone with minimal English to do a basic, low skill job like that I have literally no idea. It's not as if we don't already have enough unemployed British men of immigrant heritage who have nothing to do all day, is it? Or men of indigenous British heritage for that matter.

Yes, agree, we have almost a million NEETS as well as many thousands of graduates and older people struggling to find jobs.

Why on earth do we need to import more people? Especially when with it we seem to import sectarianism, intolerance and organised crime.

A barber can’t get a work visa though. I can’t see a work related route for someone of that level of skill set. Family or legacy visa seem to be the only options

climbintheback · Yesterday 22:05

Local councils must be giving out permissions for these shops to trade - are they getting backhanders or are they just grateful empty shops are getting tarted up! Either way surely there could be a way to stop them dishing out permissions to obvious criminals!

Are you a Turkish barber or is one your partner? If neither why are you defending criminals?

Did you misread my post?

Sorry if I did this post is giving me palpitations because of our pathetic Government and their inability to sort anything out!

I agree with uou if it helps! It's crazy to me that visas are given out to people for low skilled occupations.

Yes this and another recent story surprised me. Maybe the drop in funds is getting through.

Yes, the BBC seemingly catching up with reality is nothing short of miraculous- we’re talking a real road to Damascus moment!

I think a big problem is as someone mentioned above. The police and local authorities have to work within very tight budgets and within the law in the actions that they take. Criminal gangs have huge ‘budgets’ and they are willing to use any and all means including violence, threats, intimidation and brutality to achieve their aims. It’s not a level playing field.

And those very tight budgets are, in the most part, due to the sheer volume of our welfare state. We're housing & feeding the people who are facilitating crime. The gangs really have got it all sewn up. It's a perfect environment for them to thrive. The cycle needs to be broken.

People would be shocked if they knew how few police are on duty in many large cities/covering several towns . Often down to a low single figure number of crews, half of which are then taken off the streets waiting around in hospitals, watching “at risk” prisoners etc. the NHS is practically awash with funding in comparison

I'm astonished at the BBC for running with this story. They seem to have given up their relentless campaign to portray Britain as a successful multicultural paradise, in favour of ... reality.

I live in a neighbourhood with lots of these mini marts, nail bars, vape shops, Turkish barbers etc. I'd love to see a clampdown on criminal activity by all in authority including police. An acknowledgement that it's happening is a good start.

Yes I've also noticed this approach from the BBC. It's not just this article. A definite change in policy.

What a mess it all is. Great thread though folks. We need to keep having these open & honest discussions. Well actually, our politicians, judiciary & civil servants need to be having these open & honest discussions. But there aren't very many who will, & I'm starting to become increasingly suspicious of their motives.

Forthesteps · Today 08:16

2dogsandabudgie · Yesterday 17:44

The problem is we don't have politicians with a backbone anymore. They're all too scared to say or do anything.

Love or hate Farage you have to admit he's not scared to say what he thinks.

He's not saying what he thinks. What he thinks is that people like you are gullible enough to feed his ego and his pocket and "thanks, suckers"

Not half as fucking suspicious as all the '"ooh, them immigrants amirite let's be honest here" posts.

So-called Reform shills. We see you.

Do you agree with visas for low skilled work? Do you not wonder at the application and hiring policies? Are you happy that the DBS system is no longer applied? Unless someone has been in the UK five years, we don't know their criminal background. Rape, CSA, DV, fraud isn't prosecuted in every country.

Oh, and before you all do the "he doesn't need money" accompanied by the folded arms downward nod "gotcha I win" thing:
They always want more. Always. Former colleague who worked in wealth management before getting a real job told me their collective entitlement, greed and constant harassing for more more more wasn't worth staying for.

As for ego...

did you now understand the point of my post? Serious question, not sure whether you’re trying to make a smart comment or don’t get it

They think they've made you out to be soft on crime thus "proving them right"

Don't confuse them with inconvenient facts.

MaturingCheeseball · Today 08:45

We need an “AMA” from a council licensing person - why are endless barber/vape shops/minimarts/nail bars allowed to open?

A shop has just appeared here called “Food Shop”. It has a few vapes on a stand and some stacks of canned drinks of no known brand. I went in there as I mistakenly thought they did Evri. The blokes - several - behind the counter did not speak English. Does no one check on these places?

I would say for care work yes, as its lack causes major problems although it isn't in fact low skilled, only low paid.
Crime should of course be penalised and all steps taken to prevent it.
But all these "Britain is so terrible these days because immigration" posts have ZERO to do with that. If you don't see that you're either naive or happy with the underlying message.

I've seen these shops for years and wondered how they stay in business with so much competition from the same types of business and all of them with very few customers. I think they can found everywhere.

Clearly Trading Standards Officers do not have the clout to confront them and the police can't unless they have evidence of illegal activity. HMRC, on the other hand, can investigate any business they suspect of tax evasion. These businesses that are still running on a cash basis could be monitored if HMRC chose to.

It seems to me that all the agencies involved with investigating these types of crimes are focussing on the top of the chain which is a long process, often taking years. And when they do eventually arrest those at the top they are immediately replaced by the criminals below them. Focussing on the top tier doesn't actually work. But like everything else in this shithole country there isn't sufficient funds to tackle these problems at all levels.

How long ago was it when HMRC had local tax offices everywhere?

Begs the question: Why do councils allow these shops to trade in the first place? 🤠

Bit of a shit thread if you're not looking at who, how, and why. Maybe councillors are receiving cash bribes?

They don't only investigate businesses that are local to their offices.

Yes, it's almost like the BBC has been infiltrated ... by people with common sense! Only a few at the moment, but it's a good sign.

I think It shows the decay in our society has started to impact better off neighbourhoods.

This is a good point - one of the areas that comes to mind where this is happening in certain areas of Solihull just on the outskirts of Birmingham

Probably not, it’s simply repeating the latest social media mantra. It’s somewhat ironic that to “see something” beyond a facade would necessitate the employment of critical analytical skills which people who simply parrot social media sound bites often don’t have.
