Mine would be Ben Fogle. I love his series BF New lives in the wild. He comes across as such a caring, compassionate and down to earth person. He’s a great listener and loves to hear real people’s life stories. He also looks like he gives great hugs!

There are a few people on these lists who I have met several times or know a bit and I can just confirm they are great choices.

And no, I’m not saying who 😁

Well they’re hardly likely to be offended are they @WhereTheHellAreMyGlasses 😕

Yes! I don’t watch her show but I don’t need to, to know she’d be a great friend.

I met AC once — she was terrifying! Though she must already have been ill…

Lucky you! I think she was amazing and she died way to young 😔

Sigh.

I don’t think anyone would be offended, either way round.

But I don’t publicise the people I get access to as it’s to do with my work, and people can get really strange and make weird requests, and I even had someone borderline stalking me when she found out I was going to be in contact with someone of whom she was a huge fan.

Hence my saying, rather tongue in cheek, that I’m not confirming who I am referring to.

I think the young people would say ‘it’s not that deep’.

Tell us more @MudRitual? I’d be really curious about what it was like to meet her in person.

CaragianettE · 25/04/2026 22:15

Mine is Kate Middleton. I’m discreet so I could be a good friend to her, and I’d be curious to know what she’s actually like behind closed doors. Although it must be very difficult for her to trust anyone enough to really make a new friend.

I have a few celebs that I pay no attention to, even find annoying as TV personalities but I actually think for various reasons would make a really good friend.

Gemma Collins is one. I don’t enjoy the OTT TV persona, but just feel like she’s probably lovely to her friends and likeable when not putting the GC act on.

Niall harbinson

A friend of mine had been one of her students on the UAE MA, and took me with her to a party at her house in Clapham. It must have been 1990 or 91. Witchy and majestic. Talked a lot about gardening!

CheeseWisely · 25/04/2026 22:51

I don’t know if they’re ’celebrities’ as such but the female historians, Lucy Worsley, Suzannah Lipscomb, Kate Lister, Hallie Rubenhold etc. I hated history at school but have discovered a love for it in later life, largely down to hearing it told by Women who make it interesting and relatable.

Also as a PP mentioned, Josh Widdicombe for all the 90s nostalgia, his new podcast is excellent.

If we’re talking big Hollywood then I think Jennifer Lawrence would be a great night out.

comealongdobbeh · 25/04/2026 22:51

Alan Carr

Hannah Fry. Hilarious, smart, enthusiastic, nice house, a bit naughty.
