Mine would be Ben Fogle. I love his series BF New lives in the wild. He comes across as such a caring, compassionate and down to earth person. He’s a great listener and loves to hear real people’s life stories. He also looks like he gives great hugs!

Also Dolly Parton goes without saying, she's an angel

FairViewRosie25 · 25/04/2026 21:16

In a fantasy world it would be Bruce Springsteen so many songs to discuss. Bit more realistically Rev Richard Cole’s would be a bestie

AuntChippy · 25/04/2026 21:16

Alan Carr, Graham Norton, Tom Allen.

I’m clearly lacking a funny, gay friend.

ricfab · 25/04/2026 21:19

I'm not too bothered about most celebs but I'd have loved to have known Angela Carter (not really a celebrity by todays standards I suppose). I also think Stevie Nicks would be a fun friend to have and I love her song Sara, which is essentially a beautiful love song to her friend Sara who ran off with Mick Fleetwood while she was seeing him. Forgiving her and telling her how important she is to her. I think she'd be a great friend.

Jo Whiley so I can borrow her clothes and go to Glastonbury with her. I’d be happy to be her running buddy as well.

Bob Mortimer.

Kathy Burke.

Samuel West (though I also fancy him so it could get awkward)

I can't choose...

Aisling Bea
Dylan Moran
Ricky Gervais
Dan Levy
Joe Wilkinson

Kathy Burke, Alan Carr, Diane Morgan and The Wonderful Dolly are all good shouts too.

I agree. I love her style and insouciant coolness. I covet her idyllic seeming home life too.

Gabby Logan

There are a few people on these lists who I have met several times or know a bit and I can just confirm they are great choices.

And no, I’m not saying who 😁

J k Rowling of course! So witty, funny, clever, a great feminist and she knows how to have a good time.

FaceIt · 25/04/2026 21:34

Ruth Jones
Lisa Tarbuck
Alison Moyet

Zov · 25/04/2026 21:36

Vanessa Feltz. Always seems warm and friendly and genuine. Love her afternoon chat show on Ch5. I record it when I'm at work, and watch it later. Smile

JuliettaCaeser · 25/04/2026 21:36

Helena Bonham Carter. I loved Room with a view and I used to live near her. I was having a really stressful time and she smiled at me as she went past. So I just really like her.

JuliettaCaeser · 25/04/2026 21:38

And yes J K Rowling obviously. Make a point of buying all her strike books in hardback from our local independent book shop.

I met AC once — she was terrifying! Though she must already have been ill…
