As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

My boyfriend isn’t from a poor, more deprived or less educated area but his dad was a migrant (Irish) and despite getting A levels (boyfriend not the dad) he went on to work in construction. But is a manager. Earns very well. And yes he votes Reform, can’t stand immigrants, Indians in particular. No, these aren’t my views at all. It might split us up eventually.

Demographically speaking the other PP was right though.

As for your boyfriend…I would have left him already.

Eventually? No time like the present

It’s not a general election and has no bearing on how the country is run overall. You should be voting for who you want to be the local councillor for your area. Think very carefully about if you want someone to add positively to your community or if you want a crack pot with no experience who will cut local services and raise council taxes.

This.

As a proud northerner not 1 of my family or close friends will vote Reform because they can see the truth about them.
Ofcourse I know.some.people who probably will vote them but in Durham we are already seeing the lies that got them in are falling apart and funnily enough the people who voted them in aren't too happy about it!

You need to get a new peer group and stop spending time with scumbags who vote reform

He’s a nice man in lots of other ways. I’m hoping to change his mind somewhat.

I think to be fair to him and other reform voters he’s only voting this way because as I said before most parties are rubbish re immigration/migration. Even my parents who are labour voters thought some of Farage’s views on immigration were sensible.

But his dad’s a migrant! Surely you can see the hypocrisy? I’d have been long gone if I were you.

I know, I know. It’s hard to meet a man at my age (mid 50s). I’m looking at the positives.

What did Harborne get in return and why is Farage still not holding parliamentary surgeries in Clacton despite having first class security?

Nigel Farage speaks in north London. He is pictured with his mouth open as he speaks, wearing a blue suit and checked shirt.

Elections watchdog considers looking into £5m donation to Farage

Reform UK mega donor Christopher Harborne gave the money to Nigel Farage in early 2024.

I really think there is no justification for “cannot stand immigrants - especially Indians”. I would be out the door. Imagine if you had kids and the values he would impart.

Also I would be VERY surprised if he equally cannot stand immigrants from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland (like his dad) etc….

Is it really immigrants he can’t stand or just POC?

Let me guess he’d happily befriend a white Australian immigrant but not a 2nd generation British Indian born and raised in the UK.

Too old for kids.

I think it’s immigrants.

Honestly, it’s a shock to me. Found out after I’d been dating him a few months, had no idea about this before, no signs at all. Some of his language though there’s no way I want that around my family.

That would be an instant relationship ender for me.

And here we have the exact issue…the superior attitude and treating anyone who wants to vote for reform as imbeciles who don’t understand what they are voting for. This is EXACTLY what happened with Brexit and look where that got the country!!!

And now we know that those who said it would be a disaster were right!
Nobody who actually uses their braincells for critical thinking, or even thinking, could possibly think that, on the evidence, a vote for Reform is a good idea.

I know dating is hard older but you cannot be this desperate. Somebody you would not want around your family is a red flag.

You said you hope to change him but surely you must have learned by now women cannot change a man. You just need to accept this is who he is. In his 50s he is unlikely to change.

I plan on having a conversation about this soon with him. If things do not align, then trust me I’ll be ending things.

Opposite for me. Northerner and everyone I know will continue to vote for labour as it is the least worst option.

Same here!

What did Harborne get in return and why is Farage still not holding parliamentary surgeries in Clacton despite having first class security?

My last two posts, mentioning farage and bitcoin billionaires in one, and mentioning Harborne by on the other, were initially hidden before coming up. This has never happened to me before. I did use the word scum in one and say we’re fucked in the other, but I thought swearing was fine on mumsnet? Is there something about the content of my posts that is triggering a block? Worrying, if so.

Nellodee · 02/05/2026 07:55

I’m going to presume it’s the s and f rather than farage and Harborne triggering the block.

Nellodee · 02/05/2026 07:56

Seems I was right - that’s a relief!

It's the word c r y p t o that is triggering the block. My first post was a link to the Guardian article.

Nothing dodgy but had that word in the title.

Nellodee · 02/05/2026 09:36

I said bitcoin rather than c r y p t o. Is that because of posts by bots, then?
