As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

It’s a complete mess. 🤷‍♀️

It certainly isn’t. When you’re really ill it comes up trumps. We have a lot of very recent experience of the NHS and clinically it’s been faultless.

I agree with this. My cousin recently had some odd symptoms. Went to the GP. GP recognised at once it was a potential medical emergency in the making. The care was excellent and swift. All sorted now and he is fine.

Nhs is brilliant (usually) in an emergency/urgent. But for routine care it's gone downhill. Staff are also working way over capacity and making up for shortages by doing unpaid overtime. I cut my hours to part time (3 and half days), to mean that I can actually do my job within full time hours and not need to work evenings and weekends to catch up. Staff are at breaking point and sooner or later it's all going to fall apart, or thats how it feels

What would help? More staff?

Same, I regularly need it for a condition and it's always great.

Agree routine is awful. Have been waiting nearly a year for an appointment in respiratory medicine and when I from time to time try and find out how much longer the wait might be I get an answering machine saying due to staff sickness they cannot take phone calls. Same message for months.

DefiantRabbit9 · 25/04/2026 18:30

I will say as a cynical millennial. Governments only care about what the boomers want and as such I won't waste my time voting. North & South be damned.

That is appalling service. Have you tried complaining to PALS or asking your GP surgery to chase things up? Sadly, being a squeaky wheel is sometimes needed.

What is it you think baby boomers want that is different to the wants of the general population?

If you mean the triple lock, many baby boomers are still working and not getting the state pension, and plenty who are getting the SP think the triple lock unfair.

Eta,: but parties will court the "grey vote" as it is the contingent that tends to get out and vote. If millennials can't be arsed to vote, parties won't be arsed to woo them at the ballot box.

Yes my GP is now going to chase - I do sometimes wonder if the referral letter has been lost and that’s why I haven’t heard anything but really no way of checking.

TemperanceWest · 25/04/2026 18:18

Yes more staff, but also better staff - its really hard to get rid of underperforming staff. And the whole thing needs a complete overhaul. It's such a complicated, clunky and mammoth system, with many inefficiencies. For example, I spent about 10 hours last week trying to get a child who had moved house accepted by the new team for their area - somehow their postcode combined with their new gp somehow made them ineligible for care for my profession in their new area. Then I finally got them accepted, and a different speciality asked them to change their gp and I was back to square one. Poor use of my time and delayed care for the child

My daughter needed to be seen by a specific consultant Dr D. Our GP cannot refer to them, so referred to Dr B, who then still couldn't refer to Dr D, so referred to Dr C, who then could refer to Dr D. Drs B and C only saw her for max 5 mins to say yes will do the referral. 4 appts when only 2 were needed.

I’m in the south and I’ve already done my postal vote and I voted reform. It’s the only way to get back control of our country.

I'm in the south, too, and I haven't seen any evidence of the country being out of control in any way.

LakieLady · 25/04/2026 21:11

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 24/04/2026 11:16

I'm not scared to walk the streets at night.
I regularly have NHS appointments, and I have actually noticed the past year that when I ring up, it's a lot easier to get through and less of a queue, and appointments have had a fewer wait time.
Helping parents (especially mums who it usually affects) get back into work more easily by introducing morning childcare in the form of breakfast clubs so they can get to work on time.
We can all focus on the negativity or positivity I suppose...

I feel the same. @IAmBeaIDrinkTea. My town, and the other towns in the area, feel perfectly safe at night, I had incredibly prompt GP and hospital treatment when I needed it last year, I've been able to get an NHS dentist locally for the first time in a few years, and new social housing is being built in my area.

The only gripe I have about public services is that we now have to book an appointment to take stuff to the tip. Oh, and potholes!

That's such a stupid stance. Governments only care about voters- if you don't vote, then don't complain that they don't listen to you.

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2026 21:42

Which is why voting should be mandatory.

It would force political parties to consider carefully what they offer all age groups.

What was a “proper Brexit” and how was that frustrated.

I don't think it was ever defined prior to the referendum. Voting for it was akin to writing a blank cheque imo.

Why does education level mean I’ll-informed?

Do you think every person without a degree is ill-informed?

What if they’re a carer without a degree, but do that job, or someone without a degree working in Tesco, do they all fit that description for you?

Well said. The snobbery and classism is appalling.

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2026 22:56

What will Reform do for carers?

Gtfto2024 · 25/04/2026 22:58

Cut the benefits. If the person you care for is no longer deemed disabled enough for a carer, you are getting nothing
