As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

Reform is the party no one will admit to supporting but will get their vote quietly despite the outrage from the left on here trying to insult anyone who vaguely wants to get this country back on its feet

Reform won't get the country back on its feet.

This. Facebook is largely bots and pensioners being rage baited by bots. It's scary that so many of the older generations don't have the digital literacy skills to see what is going on. It's been ignored for a long time segments of older generations are literally being radicalised online and it's been ignored. I saw reporting recently stating that one of the most dangerous demographics right now is white men in their 50s and 60s, because they've been so taken in by online far right misinformation and propaganda. And no one is really talking about it.

I use Facebook for local groups and am so glad I do. I currently have a plumber replacing our boiler that was condemned on Thursday.

My plea for a plumber on Thursday morning resulted in lots of replies, and we should be sorted by lunchtime. Facebook is invaluable for information like this.

I agree that there is a lot of crap on Facebook though.

RampantIvy · 25/04/2026 08:33

There are a lot of knee jerk posts railing against anyone anywhere left of centre on this thread BTW. They are no better than the posters insulting anyone who is right wing.

Hate how some call her that. It's so patronising and belittling of her actual position in a way that would never be said about a male in the same role.

Some of the abuse Rayner gets on MN is awful too. Hannah Spencer as well.

butimamonstersaidthemonster · 25/04/2026 08:35

I hope they win so many councils so that everyone can see what a pigs ear they make of it and ruin any chance of winning at the general elections.

And frequently on the flimsiest of grounds. There were no comments on Spencer’s great maiden speech, just her clothes. Rayner’s intelligence is often called into question because she has few qualifications, it’s highly inconvenient when it’s pointed out that Major hasn’t either, yet performed solidly in three of the great offices of state. I hate it but what do I know?

My eyes would be betray me if I were to attempt an eyeroll.

You are wishing this joker 'trounces'. I must be in another universe where Kemi commands anything other than shame and embarrassment.

Well Kemi has certainly got you hot under the collar so she’s doing something right… living rent free in your head it would appear 😂

This is also my hope. If they get in where I am, it will be potholes/dump/potholes not the glamour of "stopping the boats".

Comeonalley · 25/04/2026 10:33

I see Dianne Abbott’s been mentioned, just to add the abuse she receives is off the charts. It’s clearly linked to misogynoir (hatred of Black women) I recall many of the tweets are obviously racially abusive and misogynist but even the ones that weren’t had an undertone. Yeah these people obviously didn’t like her policies or positions on things, but there were other politicians they don’t agree with too. To have this much hatred levelled against the one woman tells you deep seated prejudices are at play.

https://www.politicshome.com/news/article/diane-abbott-faced-ten-times-the-abuse-of-other-mps-in-election-runup

If I remember correctly she received HALF of the abusive tweets sent to female MPs back in 2007.

I’ve never used Facebook but DH does for his astronomy group chat, he never mentions any political stuff is on there. I don’t think people use it now for family and friends type stuff just hobbies

the thing is if you step outside the hobby/special interest groups you are subjected to a tide of AI-slop and conspiracy theories.

Yes I can tell you’re following posts and you are prolific under this name on this thread, perhaps others.

Can you say anything positive about female conservative politicians, or is it too hard and you prefer to rail at anyone not voting Labour.

Recent change of user name I think (could be wrong….)

Not sure why you are speculating about this? It feels very intrusive and has bugger all to do with my views on Badenoch and the hypocrisy demonstrated on this thread.

I’m not uncomfortable more that had I known I wouldn’t have engaged, will revert and you can engage with others. Enjoy.

Kemi trounces KS at every single PMQs. WTF is your problem with her? Delete as appropriate:

  • she is a woman
  • she is black
  • both of the above

She comes across as a performative politician, jumps on every band wagon going so it comes across as insincere, yes she is anti-woke, culture wars blah, blah, blah but what are the Conservatives going to do for economic growth, how are they going to fix things. What's her story, she comes across as insincere. I am around friends and family that would have voted Tory in the past but that is because they trusted them with the economy and were Remain voters. That's not the case for these Tories.

The cuts to the benefits bill
2 child benefit cap
no benefits for foreign nationals
Restoring law and order
Detention and deportation of illegal immigrants
Deportations of foreign criminals
protection for churches

I am a foreign national, I've lived here for 35 years, always worked and paid taxes. Do you suggest if I were to lose my job I shouldn't be entitled to benefits?
Are you going to pay me back a percentage of my taxes for all those years then?...
Please don't say I'm 'different' as unfortunately racist idiots voting for Reform for the reasons you highlighted do not distinguish.

SpecialAgentMaggieBell · 25/04/2026 16:16

No. I'm a Northerner and with the exception of my mum and dad who will vote Reform, everyone I know will be voting either Labour or Green.

Boomer55 · 25/04/2026 16:20

justmeandthedogs · 24/04/2026 07:43

Is it? Or is that what reform want you to think in order to get you to decide that getting rid of it wouldn’t be a disaster?

I work in the NHS. Yes there are some incredibly long waits (largely caused by Covid backlogs, still), but these are only for elective procedures that, really, aren’t that important.

It’s a complete mess. 🤷‍♀️

Boomer55 · 25/04/2026 16:24

ForWittyTealOP · 24/04/2026 17:14

I think that's a problem with PMQs in recent years. It's gone from a chance to hold the prime minister accountable to a circus show/school playground with everyone shouting and trying to get one over on other people using stupid jokes and one-liners. It's really unwatchable.

It’s always been like thst.

Maybe what matters is not how much you are or are not educated but how much you engage your brain - in research on policy, understanding ideas and consequences - in order to contribute to a democracy.

The fact that this thread keeps reverting to accusations of people being patronized, talked down to etc is because I believe that is an observed Farage and Trump technique - and a Reform one - of whipping up self-righteousness and therefore support through division.

It is true historically (and now) that right wing politicians (and arguably others) mobilize fear of immigrants, of difference, and blame the woes of those that are most disadvantaged on these straw men in order to grow momentum and support. In doing so they have and do weaponise the fears and situations of those less fortunate (in a number of ways). I believe Farage and his bunch of clowns is doing that now.

Yes. Being academically clever doesn't make anyone the font of all knowledge or with having any common sense.🙄

Most people vote by looking around them and thinking about who might be the best choice.

No. Most people vote on prejudice. Of all parties.
The idea that so called Reform represents "common sense" is dangerous baloney.
