As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

Er…I don’t want it, that’s my point?

You said - So yes…could we have some of that here please?
😕

I think your irony detector may be malfunctioning.

You can usually be bothered on lots of posts. Often when it comes to ethnic issues.

Why are you evading now?

I’m not going to join you in your take down of a successful woman in male centric politics, whoever you are and whatever posts you closely follow.

Kemi seems to rile you up to a high degree, I’ll leave you to it.

Hmm. That seems a bit hypocritical. You are very happy to join in take downs of successful women in male centric politics.

How do you feel about Rachel Reeves or Angela Rayner?

Happy to criticise policies and anyone can do the same, Reeves gets some of the economics wrong but ultimately Starmer is responsible, happy to say he is the leader on that.

I quite like many women in politics, Diane Abbot has been brilliant lately and Rayner has gone up in my estimation, so not just conservatives.

Kemi obviously gets to the pp to a high degree, fine, not point trying to change that, leave her to it.

As per below, Rayner played a blinder recently with the humble address. Politically she’s astute.

thats so sad - i thought the tax from the private schools were supposed to go towards helping the state schools?

Nope, they never actually stipulated that it was ringfenced and wouod go direct in stare school budgets, only that it would be used to 'improve education'. All the gleeful threads on here saying 'stick it to the rich' whilst never responding to the specific questions around how the money would be used. It was a populist headline grabbing policy, with no substance, and has caused some harm and no measurable good.

What do you make of Reeves' performance as chancellor? Without relating her to a man I mean - her standalone performance.

Papyrophile · 24/04/2026 19:57

ForWittyTealOP · 24/04/2026 16:47

Oh right, maybe I should have said. I'd never vote Conservative anyway, so my dislike of their leader is purely in the abstract.

I felt the same about Thatcher. What a waste for the first woman PM to be someone who actively worked against women's rights. Badenoch has succeeded despite the structural racism that she went on to deny existed..Yes nobody has any obligation to speak up for any group but if you're coming from a particular standpoint, how odd to completely deny that. So I stand by my description of her as odd.

Such words, that are not even vaguely comprehensible. Would you like another shot at explaining what you mean? I really did not understand, except that you don't plan to vote for the Tories. What if the best candidate in your area was a tory? Some Tories are quite public-spirited, and helpful, even.

Papyrophile · 24/04/2026 20:00

To date, this has not been my experience of Labour run councils.

You only have a new found respect for Abbott (you are such a fan you don't even know how her name is spelled) because she has (rightly) criticised Starmer. Same with Rayner. Before the Mandelson stuff exploded you had very different views. Do you think other posters have goldfish memories?

The hypocrisy is astounding.

You’re wrong, but it’s nice to know how much you monitor stuff (familiar even if the u/n is not). Since you do you missed that my view on Diane changed when she stood up to speak and was ignored. I found that unfair and dismissive. On spelling it’s very typical for some posters to use that pointlessly, no surprise there.

Rayner no I wasn’t a fan, but as said the humble address vote was inspired. It may well take Starmer out. Good on her.

Can you say anything good about a conservative female politician? Or is it just insults for them.

I haven't insulted any female conservative politician? Happy to be corrected on that.

No one needs to monitor your posts. You are prolific on these boards, so it is not hard to be familiar with your stance on various issues. As other pps have alluded to.

Yes I can tell you’re following posts and you are prolific under this name on this thread, perhaps others.

Can you say anything positive about female conservative politicians, or is it too hard and you prefer to rail at anyone not voting Labour.

Brexit has been assessed as damaging GDP by as much as 8%.

Sorry, I should have said “at least”, I went with a lower estimate so as not to be accused of exaggerating

So... Rachel Reeves? I think you must have missed my question.

I want to know how the reform voters think the nhs will improve if in their words "send all the foreigners home" we wouldn't have any drs or nurses left

That's simply untrue, my husband is an NHS surgeon and English. He is a consultant now however he speaks often of the difficulty F1/F2 doctors are having trying to complete their rotations, they are massively oversubscribed, it's a well published issue. The same happens for F3s also.

The incentive for hospital trusts to take more than bare minimum isn't there as they can bring in doctors from abroad.

Hate how some call her that. It's so patronising and belittling of her actual position in a way that would never be said about a male in the same role.

Are you familiar with sarcasm?

I’m in my 50s and myself and all of my friends and colleagues, who were early adopters of Facebook (back when you needed either a university email or an email at one of a select group of tech companies) gave up on it years ago. Literally only use it occasionally for marketplace. It’s a dead platform populated by bots.

This. Facebook is largely bots and pensioners being rage baited by bots. It's scary that so many of the older generations don't have the digital literacy skills to see what is going on. It's been ignored for a long time segments of older generations are literally being radicalised online and it's been ignored. I saw reporting recently stating that one of the most dangerous demographics right now is white men in their 50s and 60s, because they've been so taken in by online far right misinformation and propaganda. And no one is really talking about it.

Sesma · 25/04/2026 08:20

I’ve never used Facebook but DH does for his astronomy group chat, he never mentions any political stuff is on there. I don’t think people use it now for family and friends type stuff just hobbies

Sayeeda Warsi is admirable. Although she has now left the Tory party.

I haven't "railed" at anyone not voting Labour, so perhaps you would like to take that back? I am not voting Labour myself.
