As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

Yes he is now but what about the years he’s lived at the tax payers expense? Should have got rid of him years ago.

Lucy Letby, it’s not 100% proven that she’s guilty so no.

Well exactly, that’s one of the reason the death penalty was abolished. LL was tried and convicted and appeal was denied. So yes she’s guilty in the eyes of the law. What caveat would you have in place to prevent her being given the death penalty if you’re giving it to others who are convicted of heinous crimes?

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 24/04/2026 13:52

It's like people don't want to believe she's guilty. She doesn't look the "type." She could be your mate, someone you know, " like you "

Greyblankie · 24/04/2026 13:52

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 24/04/2026 13:51

Exactly, it's really interesting (for want of a better word) why so many people can't believe she's capable of doing such a thing, picking over her case and desperate to find her innocent.
Why her but not others?

I don’t think she’s innocent … I think she’s guilty but whilst questions are still being asked there is doubt, no matter how small.

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 24/04/2026 13:46

Or showing my age now, Beverley Allitt?

I was going to mention her. She is 57 now. It doesn't seem that long ago.

Do they understand how Brexit enabled a huge swathe of immigration because European workers over here temporarily all went home?

Edited

They see how Britain has demographically changed over the last half a century or so of labour/conservatives and they want a new party.

And before you come for me I answered a question about how people I know are thinking I haven’t said my own opinions

As I’ve said, undeniable guilt. Literally seen doing it, caught with a dead body in your car, DNA evidence etc etc

There would be a very small amount of people actually receive the death penalty for this reason.

The death penalty is more expensive than life without parole

Ohcrap082024 · 24/04/2026 13:56

Reform are all talk and no trousers.

I think they will do very well in the local elections. Which actually might prove to be a good thing. People will then get to see that their local Reform party are
just as rubbish, if not more so, than the others. That Reform may talk a good talk but when it actually comes down to the work, they haven’t got a clue. None of them actually want to
do the work that comes with being elected.

Doing well this year may take the shine off Reform come the next GE.

I believe she IS guilty, but questions are still being asked.

Better deterrent though isn’t it?

😂
(Hoping that's sarcasm, you can never tell lately 😁)

Why don’t you like Kemi? She seems like the most sane out of all of them.

I don't think so. The amount of time you can spend on appeals, you yourself said earlier that if there's any doubt then it wouldn't apply. It doesn't seem effective in the US. And I was responding to your point about it costing the taxpayer, death penalty would cost more.

glitterpaperchain · 24/04/2026 14:03

There have been 2 elections recently. One for the MP in Gorton and Denton, which the Greens won. One for a local MP in Cliftonville (because the Reform councillor went to prison), which the Greens also won. I'd say the actual evidence here is showing that Greens could do really well in the upcoming locals.

So calling yourself a 'proud' northerner is ok?

Yes, why shouldn’t it be?

Atleastthedoglikesme · 24/04/2026 13:47

Also, Rudakabana was officially a child at the time of the crimes. Should we kill those who murdered Jamie Bulger as well, if we are killing people who commit murder before they are adults? I am really wondering who Restore want to give death penalty to. Letby was convicted of killing tiny helpless babies. She would definitely be on the death penalty list I assume?

Edited

Axel can absolutely get it. I agree with lowering the age of adulthood to 16 for crimes like this. I had a child of my own at 16.
We have clear evidence of what he did. In the age of forensics and cctv we really should bring back the death penalty for crimes like that

BlakeCarrington · 24/04/2026 14:08

Are northerners not allowed to feel pride @Flamingojune? why on earth not? What’s wrong with northerners?

AnythingButThis · 24/04/2026 14:12

Greyblankie · 24/04/2026 13:38

The cuts to the benefits bill
2 child benefit cap
no benefits for foreign nationals
Restoring law and order
Detention and deportation of illegal immigrants
Deportations of foreign criminals
protection for churches

Are you in favour of an ICE like force in the UK enacting some of these policies?
Have you seen the impact that this force has had on communities? families separated and children held?

I personally would absolutely hate to see our country following this model of violent enforcement of immigration policy but I fear this opens the door for it.

No, more the Obama system which was very successful without all the dramatics

I’m wondering too, mn seems at odds on this as well as Starmer. She polls well and he doesn’t.

Primarily they want immigration to be stricter

Isn't that what a general election for? These are local elections.

I agree, I think Kemi is the most impressive of them all and wonder why pp doesn’t like her. 🧐 I have my suspicions though…..

BlakeCarrington · 24/04/2026 14:23

Could you come back @Flamingojune and explain why we can’t be proud northerners please.

Ohcrap082024 · 24/04/2026 14:32

In regards to the death penalty being a deterrent…I doubt this actually works for the intended audience (psychopaths, murderers, rapists etc). Such people tend to think that they will never get caught and/or what they are doing is ok.

If the death penalty was truly a deterrent, certain states in the USA would have the lowest murder rate. But that doesn’t bear out. Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana all have the death penalty and are all in the top 5 states for murder rates (when adjusted for population).

Restore can talk about the death penalty until the cows come home. It’s never happening in the UK. I can’t think of a country, especially in the West, that has abolished the death penalty then renistated it decades later.
