As a proud Northerner i can say 80 per cent of my peer group will vote for Reform in May. Do you think it will be a North v South split?

Social circle?

As I said, every family member of mine is voting reform, every colleague at work and every customer at work and parents up the school who mention it. Im not talking about a carefully selected group of friends.
Of course there may be people planning to vote for other parties without telling me but I’m not a far right skinhead type of person so they have no reason to fear being honest with me if they’re voting the greens.

But why? Which policies do they like?

LemonTreeGrove · 24/04/2026 13:08

I definitely won't be voting for a party which was previously called The Brexit Party and whose leader's idea of humour as a Sixth Former was bullying younger Jewish students by making hissing noises to mimic gas chambers.

This is exactly what has happened in the USA. I am more than happy for people to fuck around and find out here too.

Silly logic - why shoot yourself in the foot.

What they are saying is if you sneer at someone and call them ignorant because you don’t don’t like what they see as the solution (in this case voting reform) you don’t make them less likely to vote for the option you disagree with, you just stop them engaging with you in discussion.

I hear people say this all the time here.
I've never seen a Reform voter take the time to engage and explain how that is the best option. It's always up to "the left" to placate them.

And quite honestly, these are council elections, I don't really care how many councils go to Reform. I don't even care if my one does as it will hopefully show people what a disaster they are. I won't be voting for them though, I never ever would.

Primarily they want immigration to be stricter

IAmBeaIDrinkTea · 24/04/2026 13:11

Thinking of "far right" as a stereotypical skinhead type is dangerous nonsense.
What's that poem I'm thinking of (don't have time just now to Google)
Along the lines of fascism doesn't just stride in in jackboots and announce itself that way.
It can be your everyday, "nice" neighbour too

I merely meant they have no reason to lie to me about voting reform. I’m not going to judge them if they’re voting greens.

In response to people implying I live in some kind of irl echo chamber

Goldenbear · 24/04/2026 13:12

I don't know anybody voting for Reform a mix of Labour and Greens, friends, work colleagues or family. I'm in the south.

Agree, I have never seen a Reform voter genuinely in good faith engage in a political discussion. They've made up their minds.

My perception as a Northerner is that Reform has more of a hold in the South, like Brexit.

Is that true- more people voted for Brexit in the south of England?

😂
(Hoping that's sarcasm, you can never tell lately 😁)

To be fair, her approval rating beats the men's, and Starmer’s is way below hers.

ByWittyGoose · 24/04/2026 13:18

None of my friends know how I vote.

One thing is for certain, If Greens had a foothold here I'd vote to try and keep them out.

Key UK Facebook Demographics & Trends:

  • Dominant Age Group: The 25-34 age group is the largest, though users span from young adults to a growing base of 65+.

Bravo, you can use Chat GPT. 👏👏👏

Type any question you like into AI but if you don’t understand the context behind it, it’s meaningless.😂

Among 25–34‑year‑olds, Facebook functions as everyday infrastructure, not a social stage.

It is used for Marketplace and Messenger, discovering events. Public posting is limited.

The prolific public posters these days are usually significantly older.

And here we have the exact issue…the superior attitude and treating anyone who wants to vote for reform as imbeciles who don’t understand what they are voting for. This is EXACTLY what happened with Brexit and look where that got the country!!!

Well, these allegedly “superior” people (i.e. those who knew what they were talking about) were proved absolutely correct about the Brexit snake oil, weren’t they? Which is why the vast majority of the country now agrees that Brexit was a huge mistake.

One would hope those who were fooled previously would have learned their lesson about voting for anything involving Farage and not be silly enough to make the same mistake again, rather than be angry at people who have correctly pointed out the obvious. The whole “look what you made me do! I had to do it because you warned me that it was a stupid idea so it’s your fault!” 🙄 won’t wash, I’m afraid.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/04/2026 13:23

I am a proud northerner and not one of my friends are voting reform. They wouldn't be friends if they did.
it's not about North/South it's about education

Tuiy · 24/04/2026 13:10

Do they understand how Brexit enabled a huge swathe of immigration because European workers over here temporarily all went home?

Atleastthedoglikesme · 24/04/2026 13:27

Immigration substantially increased post Brexit, but from India and Nigeria as the main countries instead of Poland, Romania etc

These things are the result of several contributory factors, not least ideological "austerity" and Brexit. I'm not a fan of the current government but I don't think they can be blamed for everything.

I didn't say they were, there is a lot of financial instability worldwide right now and this government is working within that, just as the last one had to work with covid. I do feel there is a lot of mismanagement, poor decision making and empty promises.

The biggest reason I voted Labour at the last election was the 'universal free breakfast clubs' promise. Not actually for us, DH wfh so we don't need it. But because I could see how it would benefit several single mums I know on low incomes - the cost of Wraparound care wasn't viable for them, so they were stuck in low paid school hours jobs, not able to move forwards and upwards and better their and their children's future. It would also mean children started school with a breakfast, and be a 'slow start' for those children for whom the start of the school day was challenging emotionally, so potentially improve attendance. It was a simple policy with huge potential positive impact, to lift people out of poverty through opportunities rather than handouts. I feel like over time it might have paid for itself. But that, and the money promised from private school fees has never materialised. So I have lost trust and faith and won't vote Labour. I wouldn't ever vote Reform. Previously lib dems seemed viable but seem to have lost their way. Who does that leave? Conservatives maybe? They seem a bit lost too. I predict a low turnout at the next election, with a swing towards Reform sadly.

People aren't bothered about the why and the how and the if. They are bothered about the now and the near next - "is this party going to make things better for me now and the next few years". Reform is the only party (falsely) promising that.

YorkshireFrench · 24/04/2026 13:30

I am a northerner and 99% of my peer group would never vote for Reform....

Atleastthedoglikesme · 24/04/2026 13:31

For interest, here are the regions and percentage Brexit vote. Not much in it N Vs S. In fact the Midlands had the highest percentages for Brexit.

Kemi is lovely. Go for her

Yeah, her ignorant and disgusting comments about disabled children were “lovely”. Always the sign of a great human being.

I’m in the north and I’m voting reform … as is everyone I know. I’d vote Restore but they’re not set up properly yet so reform will have to do for now.

Polling shows the opposite. It’s primarily a northern problem.

I’ve already asked you this, but please can you explain why you are going to vote Reform? It would be helpful for people to understand your reasoning.

Asking for a third time @Jollyjupiterif you can give your reasons for voting for Reform. If you won’t, why not?
