What does either a specific person in your life, or just the general public do, you just don't understand why they do it, and you either can't ask them or you've tried to ask them and they can't tell you?

Write it here and maybe someone else that also does it can tell you why, or has an idea as to why.

Here are mine:

Why do my neighbours across the street bring their bins outside a full 24hrs early? They are retired, home most of the day, go in and out of their house five or six times during that 24hr period, but bring their bins out early Monday morning when they don't get picked up until Tuesday morning?

Why do people talk on their phones on speakerphone in public, what is the purpose?

.Pensioners in their 80s and 90s who have to shop on Saturday mornings and complain how busy it is. During my supermarket assistant days, they used to annoy the staff and the working age customers. They annoy me still. I am sure they can find an hour- hour and a half during the week. I accept those who are taken by their working age children. That was about 3%.

. The need for people to play their music - which is usually crap, on loudspeakers on their phones on buses.

. People who go on holiday and only leave the hotel to go home. Then not eat any of the local cuisine. That is my holiday hell. Then see their photos on FB - they could have been anywhere. Nothing in the photos to indicate which country they are in.

Re the cleaning of wheelie bins. There are two households, down my road who don't put their rubbish in bags. One day as I was leaving for work, the lady opposite me, got a kitchen bin and tipped the contents which wasn't in a bag, straight into the bin.

That's an odd perspective when an escalator is continually moving, meaning that there is rarely a queue to get on it - so others using it don't stop you using it.

If there's a choice of escalator or stairs I will use the escalator when -

  • I have heavy bags/awkward luggage that I don't want to carry up a flight of stairs
  • I'm exhausted at the end of a long day
  • I'm hot and sweaty and don't want to make the situation worse
  • The flight of stairs is extremely long and there is a sign advising not to use it except in case of fire
  • I have developed a blister on my foot or other similar discomfort made worse by walking

All valid uses of an escalator. I would actually use one if I was in heels (incredibly rare 🤣). But I bet the vast majority just can't be arsed walking up actual steps. It's an easy way to get a few more steps in and use your legs. And it's free. It just always amazes me that so few people choose to use the stairs when they're available.

People who get an expensive car on finance. Some people are skint so need finance to get a car as they have no lump sum. Fine. Get a cheap car on finance cause you’re skint. People who have any lump sum ought get a car without finance as it’s way cheaper. Why the hell get an expensive car on finance? Either you can afford to buy a car outright or you can’t.

Vaping

In a similar vein to parking next to people in an empty car park, booking a seat in an almost empty cinema and someone sitting next to you

I was once in the cinema and there were 3 people including myself and someone decided to book the seat next to me

The cinema one is hilarious. I actually need to know what happened when they sat down. What a comedic genius

Why do drivers get right up my arse when I’m turning into our drive. I’m indicating and turning not bloody disappearing in a puff of smoke.

Nolanyardforme · Today 20:50

What baffles me the most is that an awful lot of people have no real idea why they do….anything. They just don’t think. They don’t think about who they are as people, how what they do affects other people, how they might be perceived. THEY are seemingly baffled when their own behaviour creates unpleasant consequences that should be bloody obvious but seemingly, are not? I am honestly baffled by the lack of self awareness in most people.

I never do. Partly lazy, partly I think it won't happen to me, partly I want to prove to myself the world is safe.

What of the most dangerous things is a stranger who means harm to a person (as opposed to just goods) enters your home if you are alone. You are thinking you are safe but suddenly immediately alone with them in a closed environment where they shut the door and have free rein to do anything to you in privacy.

This is particularly if your home is isolated and the last thing you expect is someone trying to break in.

People who stand in the supermarket aisle, blocking the whole damn aisle just chatting away. Drives me nuts.

Ditto people who reach the point between inside a door and outside or just outside a door, and stop.

Why do some people play music in their gardens every day? We neighbours do not want to hear it, have you heard of headphones?!

Lots of trees so can't see who but every day, could be morning for hours, afternoon or evening. Assume they work shifts but why in garden every day which everyone can hear? And yes it is that awful dance thump.

Most of us may have it quietly on in background, wear ear pods or just, revelation, be happy without thump thump crap! Xx

worldshottestmom · Today 20:54

Why the fuck some random cunt who lives near me freely walks into my garden and puts his rubbish in my recycling bins

People who stand in front of what you need to get to in a shop, staring blankly into space as if their last brain cell has just combusted

People who take their kids to the park etc then sit staring at their phone as if their kids dont exist

People getting huffy and puffy in a public gym when you walk in front of their pathetic camera and tripod as if they own the space because they have 50 followers on Instagram

Why do people not lock their doors?

And why do grown adults not have their own house key. It seems so child-like to have to pass "the house key" round. Aren't they grown up enough to get their own key?🤔

Why do people park next to you in an empty carpark!? Recently, I was sat in my car, in a car park which was barely full, and a woman decided to turn into the parking space next to me and scraped all the the way down my car in the process. I asked her why, and she couldn’t give me an answer.

That and why neighbours think “I know, let’s turn out music full blast in the garden, all my other neighbours will love that!”

This happened to me a few months ago. Largely empty carpark and a woman parked right next to me on my passenger side. She opened her car door and banged my passenger door. I got out to have a look and she said "No harm dear, my car's plastic, it won't hurt". I said, while checking my car "your car isn't plastic it's metal, with plastic bumpers" Her "No dear, my son told me it's plastic." Me "You do not have a plastic car!"
Her "Oh well, whatever, no harm done." And off she toddled.

See also people who sit right next to you in an empty cafe, cinema, bus etc. WHY!?

DevilsKitchen · Today 20:58

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · Today 12:40

That sounds sensible, but it I hate people parking next to us in a nearly empty carpark at night. I find it quite creepy knowing they've deliberately parked as close to me as possible.

Why do people use self service tills and not put everything straight in the bag? Everything goes on the shelf then they bring out the bags at the end and slowly pack

Oh I am one of those people sorry!

It’s to limit the infuriating “unexpected item in bagging area” and needing to call the attendant over because it hasn’t registered the item as you have put it inside the bag. I won’t let a robot rush me either.

It's an easy way to get a few more steps in and use your legs. And it's free. It just always amazes me that so few people choose to use the stairs when they're available.

If there were a busy escalator and stairs available, I would always take the escalator even if it means a small queue to get on and even though I walk up the escalator. This is because the moving escalator gives me twice the speed. The steps are higher and I have to take fewer steps to move the same distance at twice the speed.

Team escalator.

Of course, I might end up stuck behind a person who does not know the tube escalator etiquette of standing on the right. Which baffles me that someone chillin' on the left would not notice that almost everyone else on a busy escalator is standing on the right.

Thank you! My DM changed her shopping day/time when she retired. Only has shopped on Saturdays about 5 times in 15 years - all of them as arrived back from holiday Friday evening.

Why do so many of my neighbours drive to our local corner shop which is approximately a 3 - 4 minute walk?

DH did this when he was in a lot of pain with arthritis. Now he's had a hip replacement he walks there.

I reckon they can't read the menu. Either need glasses or can't see the menu over the other people in the queue.

That is infuriating.

I have a lesser one which is why some people just don't 'get it' even though you explain something time and time again <work context> This is mn so it would be my fault.

When the plane lands, some passengers that run off the plane first when have to go onto the shuttle bus between plane and terminal. They are usually the last ones off the bus. I remember one impatient couple and at passport control, I was about 70 people in FRONT of them in the queue for passport control.

Serves them right.

It baffles me how horrible some Mumsnetters are to people struggling with infertility. Can they honestly not imagine how they would have felt if they hadn’t been able to have their own children?

I came to mumsnet via the infertility board. It is the cruelest place on mumsnet. It makes AIBU look friendly!

My theory was that the people there were either in the infertility trenches or had been and seemed to think ever deserved to suffer what they had. Reddit has banned threads posting pregnancy tests to ask if it looks like a line and honestly I think that would help a lot here too. When it isn’t a line people are heartless. When it is a line people say mean things out of spite.

Dog poo...If I walk my dog on the canal there is no bin on the walk. If Dave does a poo I don't want to hold onto it for an hour so I put it somewhere that I might see it on my return to the car. I always put it somewhere I can see it on my return and dispose of it at home. Obviously, some people don't pick it back up but I do.

Please stop doing this. Your dog - your poo. No-one else wants the countryside spoiled by poo bags no matter how short the time they're there for.

It's got to be about cash flow

they can pay off the loan over 3 years.

how do you know if the person buying the expensive car actually has the lump sum available? It may be expensive it doesn't make them rich and hence why they need to spread the cost.

or are you saying that only rich people should buy expensive cars and pay it off in one go.

weird logic there!
