What does either a specific person in your life, or just the general public do, you just don't understand why they do it, and you either can't ask them or you've tried to ask them and they can't tell you?

Write it here and maybe someone else that also does it can tell you why, or has an idea as to why.

Here are mine:

Why do my neighbours across the street bring their bins outside a full 24hrs early? They are retired, home most of the day, go in and out of their house five or six times during that 24hr period, but bring their bins out early Monday morning when they don't get picked up until Tuesday morning?

Why do people talk on their phones on speakerphone in public, what is the purpose?

Why do some people just not care what's around them?

People who will barge past you to get to where they want to go
People who will stand right behind your back in a queue so they're almost touching you

I hate this too. Spatial awareness please! I do not want to feel someone's hot breath on my neck thanks.

Because the machine starts quacking "UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGNG AREA (You Thief!!!) " when you place the bag on.

I rather like the Morrisons version (at least in the branch near my dad's house), which says 'Surprising item in the bagging area.'

A small wombat? A Volvo? A bag made entirely of Higg's bosons?

Fizbosshoes · Today 14:06

Sorry havent RTFT
I cant understand people who pick Up dog poo and bag it and then leave it on the tree. I have never had a dog or picked up their poo...but I feel sure actually picking up a fresh poo is the worst part, once its in the bag , then isnt it less offensive?

A bit more niche but in large running races where you are put in pens by predicted finish times, there are always people in the first few pens who are walking at mile 1. Apart from the risk of people tripping over them/being trampled (hurting themselves and potentially others) i cant imagine anything more demoralising than being overtaken for an entire race.

Why do my neighbours have 3 cars when there are only 2 adults and none of the kids are close to driving age?

Along a similar theme, why do some people insist on cleaning out their wheelie bins regularly? Even their recycling bin, which should only contain clean, dry waste.

I get that it might need a good hose out very occasionally if it gets really stinky and minging (which shouldn't happen anyway if you use bin bags) ; but it's a bin that's there for rubbish and it lives outside - why does it need to be sparkling clean every time before you dump the next load in it?!

My opposite numbers at work do this... EVERY SINGLE SHIFT 🤷 they also put bin liners in the food bin and recycling bin.
I NEVER do this and infact remove the liners before bin day (the Binnys have told they prefare the bins without)
No amount of telling them it doesn't need doing falls on deaf ears and removing the liners annoys them no end, but I just do that for my own twisted pleasure 😅

I could write all day about the things they do that don't need doing... amd the list of things they should do that don't 🤦‍♂️
It's a good job we don't actually work together because I'd have killed them both by now!

Parking next to me, in an empty car park

No headphones, talking on speakerphone

Allowing kids to run riot, especially in restaurants. Parenting is tough, but you have to do it.

People allowing their dogs to bark like mad.

Oh I’ve just thought of one, it doesn’t annoy me in fact I’m impressed by it:

On a recent transatlantic trip, I was sitting in the aisle seat both times. On neither flight (7 hours each way) did the people by the window/middle seat get up to use the toilet! I didn’t sleep and I would have had to stand up to let them out.

Who are these people with cast iron bladders?!

I was seriously impressed. They were in all cases young - under 30 for sure. I suspect that may have something to do with it 🤣

For whatever reason, if I'm doing something that is not in my usual routine, I can not need the toilet for hours! I've always been an avid 'go for a wee as soon as you wake up' kind of person, but I can remember staying at a boyfriends house when I was younger and I used to hate going to the bathroom if his family was around and boyf wasn't awake yet. Majority of the time I wouldn't even need to go in the mornings, or I would hold my morning wee for hours!

Most recently though, I went on a day trip and was out the house for 12 hours, toilet before I left and toilet when back home. Didn't go once while out. Wasn't on purpose at all, just didn't feel the need to go despite drinking loads! I am under 30 for what it's worth. I also think it's a subconscious thing

My MIL pays a company to do this for her every fortnight 🤣

Baffles me too!

I would love that, My mother used to do it

Northernladdette · Today 14:09

Our bins are already out (2pm) for tomorrow 😂 We have wide pavements so pretty sure it doesn’t inconvenience anyone. Why? While the side gate is unlocked, before we are in our pyjamas, before we settle down for the evening, whilst there’s a gap left by parked cars. It’s never crossed my mind it might irk someone 🤔😂

FeralWoman · Today 14:09

I put my phone on speakerphone in public because the microphone doesn’t work properly when it’s used as a normal phone. The person on the other end either won’t be able to hear me at all or my voice will be all garbled and not able to be understood. It’s how I have to use it at home too. I believe it’s a known fault with my phone model. Unfortunately I didn’t know about it until after the warranty was finished. Works perfectly when on speakerphone. Don’t know why. Just glad that it works.

I keep my phone calls short and only if necessary when I’m public, and the speaker volume down as low as possible. About the most you’ll hear me talking about is asking my DH if we need potatoes, carrots or cheese because they’re not on the shopping list, or when I’ll be ready for him to come and pick me up from the shops. About 1 or 2 minutes on the phone. I’m sure people can cope with that. There’s no juicy gossip or salacious details. Just boring stuff.

I know that my father only uses his phone on speakerphone because of his hearing aids. It’s uncomfortable or there’s interference or it’s too loud or something if he uses his phone normally with his hearing aids in.

No I disagree. You're obviously not getting bigger through over indulgence.
And it's just something to say.

It’s really unkind, and also none of your business. There’s a million other things you can say if you want to comment on someone’s pregnancy.

I had GD and, unrelated, ended up carrying absolutely huge because I have a very short torso for my height. Being told by all and sundry that I was HUGE from 20 weeks certainly didn’t make me feel any better about having GD and worrying daily that the wrong meal would hurt my child.

Sometimes I am baffled at things people don’t know.
Only 29 people out of 100 on a Pointless programme ( I know) knew a picture was of John Lennon. John Lennon !
Just one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. I was both shocked and depressed.

Why do motorists drive forward onto their driveways and then have to reverse into the road??? I’ve witnessed so many near misses on our road alone, I asked one neighbour why he did it…….he said “that’s the correct way to do it”! NO IT ISN’T!!!

There isn't a correct way

SatsumaDog · Today 14:12

People who park in disabled and P&C spaces when they aren’t entitled to. It happens all the time at my gym. There’s a massive car park less than 50m away (although there are some
steps). Then they proceed to run on a treadmill, so it’s not a mobility issue. Just so self centred and selfish.

Smoorbs · Today 14:16

Dog poo...If I walk my dog on the canal there is no bin on the walk. If Dave does a poo I don't want to hold onto it for an hour so I put it somewhere that I might see it on my return to the car. I always put it somewhere I can see it on my return and dispose of it at home. Obviously, some people don't pick it back up but I do.

Avantiagain · Today 14:16

People who say their dog can't help/ it's just what they do when the owner could have done something about it. Recent example dog on long lead jumping up at my son's sn buggy. Putting the dog on a short lead as they passed would have stopped this happening.

why do people take such an interest and display bafflement about things done by other people that don't affect them or concern them?

Edited

It's just harmless curiousity about how people's minds work

There was a lady on a morning show today who did not know what the Magna Carta was. She owned it though in a very impressive way. She didn't apologise for it, just said she did not know. I liked that- no apologies. Good on her i thought.

I'm baffled by people who sit around watching morning tv- like me today. Grin

Why don't you put a ziplock in your pocket as a liner? Then you're not leaving bags of dog poop until you return.

That sounds sensible, but it I hate people parking next to us in a nearly empty carpark at night. I find it quite creepy knowing they've deliberately parked as close to me as possible.

Why do people use self service tills and not put everything straight in the bag? Everything goes on the shelf then they bring out the bags at the end and slowly pack

I pack afterwards as otherwise the Sainsbury’s scales don’t register my bag properly and I end up having to wait for staff to zero it multiple times in a shop.

When he had a really cold snap, my neighbour filled a sandwich bag up with water and left it on her front lawn. It froze, melted and stayed there for weeks. I have no idea what the purpose was!

Why do people not lock their doors?

Beacuse having to answer it to a 10 year old and his pals running in and out all the time would be a royal pain in the arse?

RealCoralRobin · Today 14:25

Why does someone have to try and reverse into a parking space next to you when they can see you’re pulling out and if they wait they can have a wider space. Especially when they have a fag in their hand, so steering badly and then nearly reverse into your car until you beep at them. Plus it was 8.30am and the car park was nearly empty🙄
