To wonder if there will be any fall out from skinny jabs?

TheLemonGuide · 20/04/2026 16:40

Everyone I know is now suddenly very slim. Okay, im exaggerating slightly, but genuinely, most of my friends who were previously overweight are all now slim thanks to skinny jabs. I am delighted for them! It seems unbelievable to think that a jab can cure this obesity crisis, but I am so pleased my friends and a couple of family members are able to live a healthier life thanks to this.

My only slight concern is, is this something that is going to be too good to be true? Do you think there will be any long term repercussions, or are we right to just celebrate this medication as a cure for something that so many have been battling for so long?

I’m more concerned with how we ended up in the first place with most of us being overweight / obese and unable to shift it without drugs. The sort of food we have to consume due to very poor oversight (I’m not talking about UPF only but the general quality of food out there), the lifestyles we lead etc. I hope we manage to address the root causes although I’m not optimistic. But there’s always hope

I honestly don't understand how nobody is talking about this! We get fed a diet that makes us addicted to food, so we eat more and more of it, get fat, whilst simultaneously being sold the idea that thin is better and are absolutely brainwashed to believe so by all the media everywhere, then we get sold drugs to make us thin again.... Make it make sense?!!

Just saw pics of Coleen Nolan. Not sure if she’s on WLI, but if she is, good for her. She’s partnered with Voy, so I assume she is on a GLP.

She looks at least 10 years younger having lost 3.5 stone, and really 100x better.

She does look good but I think her face is a bit haggard as a result of the weight loss. She really needs to stop now.

Perimenopausalmanicmum · 21/04/2026 18:22

I spoke to my Endocrinologist about these jabs and he told me to go down the proper medical route if I wanted them but I don’t qualify. He has had patients buy them online then have terrible repercussions. He said if I wouldn’t go to an online doctor for my steroids then it’s not a good idea to go to them for the jabs. I have no clue how much after care you get from getting them online though. I would love to have them but I can’t take the risk with my other chronic illnesses.
No one knows for sure how medications will affect them but as long as they pay attention to what their bodies are telling them that’s up to them. Don’t get weighed down by what others are doing, concentrate on you and yours.

Madarch · 21/04/2026 18:25

A friend of mine had a skinny jab related stroke and went temporarily blind. Its noted as a super rare side effect, but it happened to a guy that stomps up mountains every day and, other than carrying a bit of extra weight because he LOVED his food, was the fittest person I know.

Personally, I wouldn't go near them.

I really don’t think women can win. The other day there was an AIBU thread asking whether size 16 was fat. The resounding response was yes, it’s fat.

I hadn’t thought I was fat, although with a BMI of 26.5 I knew I was overweight. I’ve struggled for a decade to lose weight and with perimenopause it’s even harder.

So I’ve signed up for Wegovy and just had my first dose. I’m on a 3 month plan and intend to use it to get into a healthy BMI and stop. I will need to do the hard work to maintain but I already exercise and I believe I’m capable of maintaining, I just couldn’t lose.

I do have really mixed feelings about it and it seems I’m destined to be judged either way 🤷🏻‍♀️

ALL the people taking WLI seem to either be on MN or know someone on MN. Google says 1.6 million people in the UK take it.
It seems strange that you know so many of them.

I think the answer is that we don't know the long term impact. We can't know yet.

Hmm, the 1.6 million will be those 'officially ' taking it via NHS or private prescription. It won't include people getting them by under the counter methods.

For goodness sake her face is like it is due to age and no longer being padded out by fat. Had she never been over weight this is what she would look like at this stage of her life.

And we wonder why women feel pressured to turn to WLI, Botox, fillers etc…

It’s a fact of life that dramatic weight loss shows on the face and usually with saggy skin.

SilenceInside · 21/04/2026 18:46

I hope Voy are paying Coleen Nolan enough to compensate for the hideous comments that she will be receiving about her looks online, here and elsewhere. She’s 60, not 35 and she doesn’t look haggard she just looks like a normal 60 year old.

@Midlifecrisisaverted I’m not brainwashed into thinking that “thin is better”. I know for medical reasons that being a healthy weight is incredibly better for my health than remaining morbidly obese. I don’t care at all about being “thin”.

Is there any need, “big piggy face.”

What an awful way to talk about someone.

It’s also a fact of life that there will be bitter women out there using words like “haggard”, you are literally the problem, you are literally the reason women are doing these things. It’s horrible.

Sorry, you’re right, that was unnecessary. I have a big piggy face myself FWIW

I don’t agree with this. I’m certainly not bitter and I don’t have the power to influence other women.

You don’t think swarms of insecure, unhappy individuals calling perfectly normal women “haggard” or “piggy faces” isn’t feeding into this incessant need for women to to change their appearance? You don’t think your individual words aren’t part of an endemic problem? How would you feel if you knew Colleen Nolan had read your comments?

Smoking was rampant, and where I lived parents would buy their kids fags. We were thin because we were out all day. Tv was rubbish so we rode our bikes and walked the legs off ourselves. We used to be feral running through gardens playing 40/40 save all.

It is not true that smoking makes you or keeps you thin. As a smoker whose weight has gone up and down over the years, it really makes no difference. Having a cigarette might 'eclipse' hunger pangs for the brief time you smoke it, or act as a short displacement activity for having a snack, but once you have smoked it, any food cravings just come back.

If you exercise to maintain or lose weight, smoking will make that more difficult as cardiovascular exercise is likely to make you breathless sooner.

Obviously with the risks of smoking being greater than the risks of obesity, no one sensible would choose to start smoking to aid weight management, but I think it's a myth that high numbers of smokers is why people were thinner 50 years ago. The reasons are:

  • No all day snacking culture. Any snacks were contained and small, such as 'elevenses' - e.g. a couple of digestive biscuits with morning coffee.
  • Far fewer fast food outlets
  • Getting fast food delivered was rare, if not unheard of
  • A cup of coffee while you were out was 200ml of MaxPax, not a 500ml confection of squirty cream and syrup
  • Car -less household were more common, multi-car households much rarer, so people walked more.
  • No 'screens' and limited TV during the day, especially for children, meant children played outside more.
  • Less variety of food in supermarket, food was generally plainer and more boring, so it was less tempting.
  • Fewer labour-saving devices so more energy expended on household tasks.
AuntChippy · 21/04/2026 18:59

Well I don’t think Coleen is either ‘haggard’ or ‘piggy’. 🤨

She’s in her 60s and is a smoker. She didn't have a bloody facelift. I think she looks great for losing weight.

Good grief, calm down. I didn’t say anything unkind. I should think that Colleen has looked in the mirror and realises that her face has been affected by the rapid weight loss. It’s up to her whether it is worth it. Now you’ve had your rant so leave me alone. I am entitled to my opinion on here without being abused by you.

It really isn’t a controversial thing to say that substantial weight loss can have negative effects on the face.

Theolittle · 21/04/2026 19:04

Sorry not rtft so these thoughts might have been done already…

  • Average longevity night improve. Unfortunately this will put even more pressure on UK finances if people live longer
  • less pressure on the NHS from weight related illnesses
  • big pharma must be making a fortune - is there any possibility of competition driving prices down?
  • people eating less might change what we want to eat when we go out - less take outs, choc and pastries/cakes
  • people have less money to spend in the UK economy because they need to continue WLI
  • not sure about the impact on kids growing up in families that perhaps didn’t have healthy cooking habits before - perhaps healthier habits will develop because food noise stops driving people to unhealthy choices

Calling somebody “haggard” is, stop deflecting. If that was the point you were trying to make you could articulate it better. I don’t agree with you anyway, fat on the face skews someone’s age, she just looks her age.
