So our Prime Minister is doing what he does best - blaming someone else for his own mistakes. But i really think he's done for this time - if he didn't know he's incompetent, if he did know he's lying to Parliament and the whole country. Either way i don't see how he can expect to keep his job. It's frightening how little he cared for Mandelson 's cosying up to a sex abuser, paedophile and human trafficker.

It's not for you to say whether it's in the best interests of other people.

Then it’s also not for you to say what "the country needs".

Untailored · 20/04/2026 16:41

I’m honestly wondering if some of these posts are by Russian bots trying to sow division.

gamerchick · 20/04/2026 16:42

With the world as unstable as it is ATM, the last thing we need is a change like that.

People need to shut up about it and be glad they have have the peace of mind and feel safe to whinge.

We have an election every 5 years. Use your vote if you're fed up.

KeyLimeCake · 20/04/2026 16:43

Is it David Lammy people want?
Is that what this thread is about?

Overtheatlantic · 20/04/2026 16:43

3GoldenLamps · 20/04/2026 16:34

Because there is LITERALLY no way he was not told.

There is LITERALLY no way that you know this. I don’t believe he’s lying.

TemperanceWest · 20/04/2026 16:40

Well you seem to have done just that by deciding there should by a GE!

Anyway, it is all academic. There won't be a GE unless Starmer or the next Labour leader decides there should be one.

A GE would definitely be in my best interest, yes. In the meantime, I'll happily campaign to get rid of Starmer.

No. They're posts by people sick of Starmer's endless drama and excuses.

I think bots are everywhere these days, sowing discord. And certain powerful people are rubbing their hands together with glee at yet more instability on the horizon.

A female MP in Parliament just said it was leaked to the press, so the government had no choice but to announce it.

The Independent ran the failed vetting as a story last Autumn. I guess Starmer's team don't read the papers. "Didn't see it, Guv".

sittingonabeach · 20/04/2026 16:47

@Dragonscaledaisy who do you want instead?

3GoldenLamps · 20/04/2026 16:48

He's the PM It was the most significant diplomatic post. Do you think that he was not told? The issue was (as the current Parliamentary debate right now and live is making clear) is that he was tol,d but they had already announced the post before the vetting was complete and it would be embarrassing. KS himself is saying he ought to have been told, because that was normal procedure but somehow, amazingly he was not.

If you really think the PM- the highest public service job in the land was kept in the dark by the very professionals whose entire careers lives and dies on what they do every single day as their bread and butter job then you are IMO naive.

Like I said- I voted for the man. I am ashamed of what has come out.

I personally don't relish a change in prime minister because I personally do not think anyone in the wings is up to the job and I think those waiting in the wings will only cause more division. But it makes me quite sick that this is apparently the best we have. The tories were a disgrace. I had faith that Labour would be better. Not yet they aren't.

He isn’t coming across very well, stumbling over his words

Could you cope with none stop abuse while trying to do your job, while dealing with other bosses in other countries who are hell bent on killing each other and trying to sort out the mess the Tories left the country in? He's probably running on fumes.

The people constantly going for him are weird AF.

He should have gone long ago. The main worry with that is though, who will replace him!

Exactly this! I don't have much time for Sir Keir, but we should be careful what we wish for, as any successor is likely to be much worse.....

He's always been a blustering buffoon. He's the Prime Minister. He needs to step up and do the job he's paid to do.

Yeah I do often wonder on a human level how it must feel to have to do this job at the moment. You must barely get a second to think, really (which is part of the problem too).

Where's the evidence that any potential successor would be 'much worse'?

StrictlyCoffee · 20/04/2026 16:53

YABU

who’d be PM of this country? People want everything fixed yesterday without giving the government a proper chance. We’ve had 6 prime ministers in 10 years FFS. And talk of an early GE less than 2 years into a 5 year term is just pathetic. You don’t like Labour or Starmer, we get it, I’m not particularly enthused either but all this whinging and moaning just makes people sound like sore losers.

I was referring to Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador. It was relevant to the issue of why it was announced before vetting was completed.

I have no idea myself but the MP who was next to speak after Badenoch and Davey mentioned it.

FernandoSor · 20/04/2026 16:57

ProudAmberTurtle · 20/04/2026 16:37

One of the main reasons why noone gave a shit is because it's completely untrue that he failed the vetting process - you've just made that up!

What's emerged recently is that Theresa May had concerns about him - but they were proven to be wrong because ... he passed the vetting process.

It is literally impossible to pass DV if you are a journalist or have any journalists in your family or as close friends. It's one of the first questions they ask. So no, I do not believe for a minute that Boris Johnson would pass DV.

But he was a minister, so will have never had to as they are exempt. It's only civil servants who need to pass vetting to be appointed.

Oh I see, sorry.

Alternatively they could have just been honest. "We would like to appoint the dodgy, grifting, paedophile appologist, subject to vetting."

Are you thinking David Lammy or Angela Rayner would be better?

Do you have a favourite in Labour you would like to take over?

I did read something about how vetting is rarely failed so perhaps they just thought it would be a formality.
