Why does this sentence infuriate me so? I already know I’m probably being unreasonable but it’s so grating. I can’t be the only one?

And the constant need to put the kettle on!

To be fair...
Polly would have been out of a job.

Same here. I don’t touch fizzy drinks and very rarely drink juice. Tea, coffee and water are the only non alcoholic drinks I have.

Same here - I don't do sweet drinks at all, so my hydration almost solely comes from hot drinks.

VeraWang · 19/04/2026 11:20

Actually I really dislike "How do you take your tea?"

Just pass it over to me 😳🤣

mrlistersgelfbride · 19/04/2026 11:23

YANBU. The only person I know who says it is MIL, which is probably why it drives me mad.

Sooky took it off again

Prefer cuppa to brew.

Brew reminds me of Peter Kay!

sunsettosunrise · 19/04/2026 11:25

I hate 'picky bits'!

INeedABrewPlease · 19/04/2026 11:26

Off to change my username…

Frumpitydoo · 19/04/2026 11:26

Cuppa
Chocs
Picky bits (makes me think of a scabby fanny).

I hate 'picky bits'!

That doesnt bother me. I say picky tea

I like a cuppa splosh.

In fact I'm drinking one now.

I don’t mind cup of splosh, but I do separate ‘cup’ and ‘of’.

And the constant need to put the kettle on!

having the kettle on constantly and having lots and lots of lovely tea? absolutely

using the word "cuppa"? Get out of my house. No tea for you.

Edited

What is "splosh"?

ACR7 · 19/04/2026 11:29

I say cuppa as do most people I know. I can assure you we’re not twee. Maybe it’s a regional thing. I’m in north east.
I do agree about hubby though 🤮

ClaraThePigeon · 19/04/2026 11:29

I hate it but “brew” is even worse.

Shithotlawyer · 19/04/2026 11:02

I think in general its having tea all the time that annoys me! Nobody needs constant hot drinks.

This! What’s wrong with a glass of water?

see also people drinking coke or other sugary fizzy drinks in the middle of the night. But you’ve brushed your teeth already!

Hate it. Also “a tea”.

Oh I see this and raise you- shudder- "a wine"....

Enigma54 · 19/04/2026 11:31

Cuppa is better than brew!
I hate “ gives me the rage” Sounds so aggressive.

TittyGajillions · 19/04/2026 11:31

Is there a list somewhere of words that are acceptable to MNers?

Weeelokthen · 19/04/2026 11:31

Currently enjoying one just now after dp asked me exactly that 😁

mumuseli · 19/04/2026 11:32

Hmmm I feel that some of the other examples people are giving (holibobs, the feels, hubby) are relatively modern, but 'cuppa' is an old classic so doesn't bother me!

ConstantlyFuriosa · 19/04/2026 11:33

asdbaybeeee · 19/04/2026 11:04

What’s your view on holibobs ?

Absolutely ghastly.

OP posts:
Madarch · 19/04/2026 11:33

It's a brew or a panad in our house. No 'cuppa' to be heard, TF!

PinkiOcelot · 19/04/2026 11:34

Fine by me.
My pet hate is brew! Can’t stand it.
