With the current situation in the Middle East not improving and jet fuel set to run out in 6 weeks, what do you think are the chances of your summer holidays proceeding?

I'm off to sunny Norfolk in a couple of weeks. Think that should be OK!

thesecondmrsdewinter20 · 19/04/2026 07:38

I’m getting married in the summer - my immediate family travelling from Australia for the wedding. I’m very worried about them not being able to make it as I don’t know what we’ll do if they can’t come. Would break my heart to get married without parents / siblings but we’d lose so much money if we cancelled the wedding 😞

Sprogonthetyne · 19/04/2026 07:39

My plan is to take the campervan through the tunnel to France, which I think should be fine unless major fule rationing stop me driving, but if it gets to that point the holiday would be the least of anyones worries.

Gardenquestion22 · 19/04/2026 07:41

Turkey in September, 6 flights in total….ho hum.

walking holiday in England should be fine…

freetospeakup · 19/04/2026 07:53

I have 3 trips booked but all are package holidays so hopefully would get refunded or rearranged. From everything I've read I'm not too worried. I trust Simon Calder who isn't overly concerned. A few more unpopular flights might be rearranged or cancelled but I don't think tour operators will want to be dishing out package holiday refunds... hopefully! A high proportion of jet fuel comes from other areas apparently. But as has been said up thread, a cancelled holiday is not the end of the world. Far worse things can happen.

Natsku · 19/04/2026 07:56

We're supposed to be flying to the UK in June to see family and take my kids to the area I grew up in. This is the last year my parents are up for driving around the UK so if it gets cancelled it'll never happen which is quite a depressing thought, but not the end of the world. I am trying to figure out if we could afford to train and ferry ourselves over there but that would be several days each each way so accommodation costs along the way too unless my parents can come up with some family friends we could stay with enroute.

SpainToday · 19/04/2026 07:57

We have a package holiday to the Canaries booked for July - I am fairly optimistic, but would expect a full refund if it didn’t go ahead

notimagain · 19/04/2026 08:03

SC is usually very good on the consumer side of aviation, passenger rights, etc...he's not always quite so good when it comes to operational matters.

Aposterhasnoname · 19/04/2026 08:10

I have two booked and I fully expect them both to take place, possibly with some minor flight changes, and possibly with a fuel supplement added. Jet fuel isn’t going to run out, there may be less than we need, so some flights will be cancelled, but by no means all of them. Airlines will consolidate flights, send bigger planes etc.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 19/04/2026 08:15

Ive got Spain booked for August. Not sure if shorter flights are more or less likely to be cancelled. The refund would be cheaper for the airline but then they also require less fuel.

Midnights68 · 19/04/2026 08:18

I would be surprised if there were mass holiday cancellations by airlines à la covid. That’s not to say it won’t happen, but I would be really surprised.

I wouldn’t be surprised if airlines start asking for fuel supplements.

Cantgetausername87 · 19/04/2026 08:21

Trying to to worry too much and hoping it's just scaremongering. Completely out of our control too, if you've booked and can't get a refund - that's too bad. Can't be blamed for some orange maniac! Luckily I know I can get most of my holiday back and I'm upset because my little one is excited so will need to suck it up and plan for something just as nice here if it does happen x

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/04/2026 08:25

I'm going abroad by train so not currently worried.

curious79 · 19/04/2026 08:26

We booked a long haul just before all the fighting started, transiting through Doha. Elements of the flight have already been cancelled and rebooked and times changed several times already. Chance of going? I’m not holding my breath.

Adelle79360 · 19/04/2026 08:36

We’ve got a wedding to go to abroad this summer so if our flights were cancelled the wedding would be off - nothing anyone can do about it if it happens. I’d be sad not to go but we’re only booked for a small number of days so not the end of the world. We’ve got a cruise booked as well and my understanding was that the 6 weeks of fuel related to jet fuel so think the ship we’re due to go on would be fine?!

Bikergran · 19/04/2026 08:40

Just no idea. I really hope they do, we only go on one "big" holiday a year, and we're so looking forward to it. Have to say, if we hadn't already booked, I wouldn't be booking outside the UK now, though I find holidaying here very expensive and generally not as nice as abroad.

99victoria · 19/04/2026 08:43

Trips planned to Cyprus next month and Greece in June. Absolutely assuming they are going ahead. Especially excited to discover that Greece have suspended the EES requirements for British passport holders
But then we flew twice during covid - once during the short September window of 2020 and then again in June 2021 the week after flights resumed and we were 'allowed' to leave the country (still blows my mind when I think back)
I'm just an optimist I think 😁

@Isekaied
“Phlegmatic describes someone who is calm, cool, and not easily upset, excited, or angered. It refers to a stolid, unemotional disposition, often characterized by a slow, thoughtful, or sometimes sluggish response to situations. It implies a composed, unflappable nature.”

mamaduckbone · 19/04/2026 08:47

We haven’t booked anything in the summer for the first time in several years - nothing to do with this, we’re waiting on whether ds1 can join us - so we can play it by ear…which could go either way.

I'm travelling by train, so currently don't foresee any issues.

Catlover1705 · 19/04/2026 08:48

I'm enjoying UK mini breaks at the moment. Just had a lovely couple of days in Richmond, stress free. Might venture up to the Lakes or into Wales. As I'm retired will go last minute when weather is good.

pdjafcwtaoa65 · 19/04/2026 08:48

Our big summer trip is in 3 weeks, I’m hoping we might just pull it off before things deteriorate 😬

hahabahbag · 19/04/2026 08:50

It will be fine, not flying but fuel will be more £££

I’m really curious why people flying or travelling by train don’t see issues? Here in the UK our trains are still not electric and a lot across the continent aren’t either. Driving will also be hell!

I think the fear of it running out is a bit of a media storm. My husband is currently away on business in Eastern Europe and they’ve not heard anything like that.

that said I love to travel and it is quite possible it will happen like anything else in the world could happen. We have Europe booked for may and July…we hope to go much further in around autumn but we haven’t booked that yet which is unusual for us I admit.

Im just presuming if it does happen, flights will just get cancelled and refunded. I would just be making sure that if you’ve got separate bookings for air bnb or hotels or whatever , that you’ve got that covered too.
