With the current situation in the Middle East not improving and jet fuel set to run out in 6 weeks, what do you think are the chances of your summer holidays proceeding?

DiddleyDeeDee · 18/04/2026 21:34

Litterally just booked flights for 11 days in south west france for 6 week summer holidays. Also today booked flights to ireland for october. Not really worried and if they are cancelled they are cancelled 🤷‍♀️

I am sailing not flying. Expecting fuel to be more expensive but not foreseeing a cancellation

I’ve briefly thought about we’d do if we get stuck abroad, and sailing back is definitely on the list of options!

We always only have 6 weeks jet fuel in storage. May not be a problem.

We're flying to Switzerland to go to Annecy. We could switch to train though it might be really booked up if we leave it last minute.

Missingpate · 18/04/2026 21:39

We just booked Eurostar tickets and hopefully those won’t be affected but it’s also not until later in the year

Isekaied · 18/04/2026 21:39

We we t abroad in Easter.

Was gonna book something for summer.

But will probably holiday in the UK instead.

Already booked butlins for the kids- they love it.

Will consider a city break in UK.

Maybe around October depending on situation. Will see if book anything abroad.

Same here. Except it's been since 2014 for us (youngest has never been on a plane)

We had a holiday cancelled when Thomas Cook went bust, then another cancelled due to Covid so I'm not holding out much hope.

Dreadful luck. Have you had refunds at least?

UnctuousUnicorns · 18/04/2026 21:42

We haven't been abroad since 2018, got 10 nights in Scarborough in July booked, hopefully should go ahead okay. 🤞

We are supposed to be going in June, flights aren't booked and I'm waiting to see what happens. I'm not hopeful though.

FettleOfKish · 18/04/2026 21:45

I work for a Tour Operator and we are aware and watchful but not at the moment concerned. My advice is to give no weight to tabloid scaremongering.

I don’t know the age of your kids but we have had great UK city breaks with ages 10 to 16. Some of the larger cities sell a pass to the whole city (or most of the attractions) which made it very affordable and manageable. It meant that you could go to an attractionand stay for as long/short as you like without thinking ‘this cost a fortune so you’d better like it’. One city threw in a really good lunch deal with the pass as well, which made it affordable for a whole family to eat out.

Yep. We’re sailing from Dublin to Holyhead to visit family then we’ll sail from Dover to Calais and travel across France, and Spain. Saying in different Eurocamps

Dontlletmedownbruce · 18/04/2026 21:46

That's awful @SpanThatWorld I hope he recovered well.

PantaloonMad · 18/04/2026 21:47

I’ve not booked anything abroad for this reason. Going to Devon and maybe Scotland

It’s easy to drive to Annecy. We did, it was a great trip.

I'm not thinking our holiday is likely to be cancelled. But holidays were cancelled in COVID and it wasn't the end of the word, so what will be will be.

We had to go camping in the UK and it felt like we were at the end of the world where the sun would never shine again to be honest 😅

We are meant to be going to Asia, and I'm not worried about getting there but we are worried about there being no fuel for internal flights and wondering if we should cancel.

Helpwithdivorce · 18/04/2026 21:49

We’re flying to turkey in 5 weeks. I can’t see it getting cancelled in all honesty

A good chance given we are going to the Midlands and then later in the summer, Dorset.

We possibly have further to the Channel than from Calais to Annecy so perhaps not.

mindutopia · 18/04/2026 22:02

Yes, we are going to Devon….all the way from further inland in Devon. 😂

We have a couple of abroad holidays booked, including one long haul. I don’t mind if they get cancelled as long as I get my money back. The flights we booked six weeks ago for three of us have gone up another £2k already. Shocking.

Speakofthedevil · 18/04/2026 22:31

Can someone more knowledgeable about these things explain, please? If, supposedly, there's '6 weeks worth of fuel left' and flights are getting cancelled left and right (as per media scaremongering), then why am I getting tons of newsletters from various airlines with offers for flights in June/July/August? 'Embrace the Mediterranean this July', 'Sip cocktails in Capri this August', etc?

Lots of sales, but nothing outrageous, usual discounts of 15-20% for some spring-summer flights.

Why are they doing this, if 'fuel is about to run out'?

I have two holidays booked, one week at the end of May and a 6-week break starting in August. Not overly worried. Slightly, maybe. I flew all over and had great holidays during Covid, don't see this as much different, tbh. More scaremongering than anything, imo.

Well, if it's cancelled, then what can you do? I'll deal with it when it happens. Hopefully, it won't.
