Do you have a source for this? This particular statistic is very difficult to measure, for obvious reasons.

Many years ago scientists were researching blood types ,rhesus negative ?
They tested the blood of the male prisoners and their children. and found that of around 10% of these children could not have been fathered by these men.
A very different demographic to tge general public

This reminded me of the old Bird’s Eye chicken pie adverts with June Whitfield. Absolute classics of the 70s.

I used to love those birds eye chicken pies 🥧 😋

Years ago when working in a very large nursing body, two separately happily married women were both having affairs - with each other! I saw them when I was actually on a day off, renewing my passport 😂.

I also have an uncle who went to prison for many years for a crime which I know AS FACT that he didn't do. I know the girls involved as they are also family - the so-called victims. They were honestly anything but victims, and the whole thing was a concoction by them. We all tried our best but the poor man went inside for 15 years.

She could be Peppermilks husbands sister.

Thanks for that... I had been getting tied up on how else it could be someone not a brother of the poster's husband - was driving me mad! Makes sense now!

Both sad and years ago:

My then manager told me his best mate had got divorced partially because they couldn't have children. Around the same time my then DP and I visited his newly married cousin, who had been married before. She'd got divorced due to DV and her ExH had beaten two early pregnancies out of her. I can't remember what made the penny drop but one crucial detail made it clear the cousin had been married to my manager's best mate. I kept that to myself.

And a friend with eastern European heritage once expressed sadness she knew little of her father's history, just a few bits about how he arrived in the UK after the war. He was quite old when she was born and had passed away years before I knew her. I got curious and did some digging on her behalf. He'd told her he'd been on the allies side but the few details she did know didn't add up to that. It seems very likely he was a member of a notorious Nazi SS Division made up of eastern European volunteers and that committed many atrocities. Another one to keep to myself.

I knew a guy who worked with my dad from Poland when I was a boy. A few years later dad told me he'd been a prisoner of war fighting for Germany as a volunteer...he was a really nice guy and a great father but...

I have 2:

I found out my ex husband had another child from before we met (when he was married to someone else) when he tried claim on a tax form we were still together and the tax office sent me his claim forms for the past 5 years. No one in his family knows about the child. I waited till the daughter we had together was 18, and then I told her. She’s never brought it up again.

Not gossip but a terrible story- I have a friend whose 16 year old brother was killed in a farm accident. His father was the farmer and utterly broken by the event. In the evening after the funeral, the mother confided in my friend, her older son, that she’d had an affair and that the deceased brother was not her husband’s child. An unforgivable burden of truth to put on someone. My friend was 19 at the time. He never told his father.

Walking my dog on dark nights, we pass a house with a large widow and open curtains where a huge tv is often showing porn. When I mentioned it to another dog walker, she told me I must be mistaken because the owner is very elderly and a highly regarded and rather prim chapel goer. I wear glasses but couldn't imagine how I’d been mistaken. My son came out walking with me over the holidays and confirmed I wasn't mistaken at all. The only thing that puzzles me is why he never draws the curtains.

I did 23andMe and found out my grandad wasnt actually my real one, my horrible grandmother who had always took the mick out of my other grandmother for having a black boyfriend, had actually been with a man from St Kitts who she had presumably met whilst doing something for the war (she would never say what) I told my father for years it was obvious he was mixed even though he was white passing there were some things like hair texture and his skin colour in summer and features, swore up and down I was wrong cos he's racist as anything, 23andMe proved me right 😂 found a bunch of new relatives, desperately want to meet them all in St Kitts one day!

Bigcat25 · 09/04/2026 20:16

Ravetothrgrave I hope you can! There are some interesting stories on YouTube about people meeting up with long lost relatives and discovering there history.

HorsesForMorses · 09/04/2026 20:20

Going back to the previous post about the secret drinker neighbour, I think the folk who commented indignantly have missed the point that the neighbour deliberately put the empty vodka bottles in the PP's bin rather than her own, and in the dead of night. That's definitely the behaviour of somebody concealing their secret drinking, though whether it's herself or others she's trying to deceive...

RapunzelHadExtensions · 09/04/2026 20:24

Our very well off, successful and outwardly happy mortgage broker is utterly miserable in his 'perfect' marriage and made a pass at my friend at a party.

Two managers I worked with were having an affair for over a year and would ask for my advice and support constantly about it. He called it off when his wife found some messages but he managed to convince her it was never sexual (absolute bollocks) so they've stayed together.

RapunzelHadExtensions · 09/04/2026 20:36

My DMum isn't vegan, only vegetarian.

She pretends to be fully vegan for the sake of DSis, who is a strict and extremely regimented vegan.

I ask why she doesn't just tell her but she says she doesn't want to upset her.

She makes me help her hide the eggs and vicky sponge before she arrives 🙄😂

Changedforobviousreason · 09/04/2026 20:37

Name changed

When I split from my exh I decided to have some fun on some hook up sites.

But once met a teacher from my DCs school. I didn't realise when we were first chatting as he wasn't using his real name. We met up and had a lot of fun before we twigged. Yes he's married.

It makes parents evenings "interesting"!!!

Ooh I have one.

I have told my best friend, but haven't told anyone else because I don't want people to think I'm spreading rumors.

So my exh had an affair with his work assistant. He left me after 20 year marriage to be with her. She was married too and left her h. They since got married and make out they have the perfect life.
She was well known at the work, yes in that way, as had multiple affairs with multiple men there.
I have a mutual friend who works at the same place and he is a nice looking lad.
Their work had a conference and they all had to stay over at the attached hotel.
I saw him recently and he said he had something to tell me, but I had to promise not to repeat it.
He was getting ready in his hotel room and there was a knock at the door. It was my exh new wife. She asked if she could come in and he hesitated asking why. While talking he said she was wearing leggings type trousers and kept pulling them up, showing off a severe camel toe. Then she asked again if he was sure he didn't want her to come in. Anyway it was very obvious that she was after a possible shag, he said no and she replied with 'your loss'. The awkward thing was though he said, was my ex was also at that conference.

So of course the first thing I did after finding out, was to phone my friend to tell her as keeping a secret doesn't include not telling her 😂

So now if this is true, which I suspect it is, is my cheating exh now being cheated on too....? As if she is going around proposing herself like that to random men, she is doing to to others too, right ?

Is this Karma?

I work in the HR dept in the same company that my BIL works at.
He was recently suspended due to making several massive mistakes and is now on a final written warning.
I can't tell DH though (his brother)

What was your father's reaction?

Carpedimum · 09/04/2026 21:09

Someone I know quite well, she’s more than an acquaintance but not a friend that I go out with, is an OF ‘model’. When I was first told about this (by someone who has seen her in action on OF) I imagined that she at least kept her underwear on and did something benign like her ironing in suspenders, but no, she apparently does full sex shows with toys etc. She would be mortified if she knew how many people know who she thinks she’s fooled with a completely different line of work. She goes to great lengths to disguise her true appearance but there’s a unique tell tale that the person who saw her immediately recognised. I’m quite liberal but admit I was shocked, not least because her husband must be in on it and possibly her older kids too. Can you imagine? Shush, your mum’s in the middle of a broadcast.

These stories can’t stay secret forever

not now we have 23 and Me / Ancestry websites

It's all come out and the child knows now which is been pretty awful. The biological dad has no idea though!

He thinks the whole test is wrong 😂 i haven't talked to him for years now for many reasons but this didn't help, he absolutely refused to believe its real at all and they've lied specifically just about him for some reason!

A friend from work's wife is having an fling with the vicar of the church she (but not he) goes to (and he doesn't know ;-().

One of our near neighbours is working cash in hand and signing on as well.

One of our other near neighbours wants to go back to his home country and retire - she's a teacher and settled here, and doesn't want to - this causes endless grief

A couple in our street are about to open a swingers club. It’s about 40 mins away. I’ve known for years they were involved in that scene, but others locally are likely just about to start finding out as the opening gets nearer.

There are some people objecting to it (even though it was already a swingers club until it closed for sale and refurb and was so problem free some of the objectors didn’t even realise it was there!) and I think they’ll be mind blown when they realise that the owners - who they seem to be picturing as some wild pair wandering around naked and being inappropriate are actually the very normal couple from down the street

It’s not The Fox on the a1 is it? That closed down but definitely used to be a swingers place, even had a website detailing it all! It’s the only place I’ve ever heard of so I was fascinated!
