Neighbours kids keep looking over our fence

As the title suggests. Young girl around 5-6 keeps looking over at our fence. Did it a handful of times yesterday until I turned around and said 'hello can I help you?' And she's doing it again today. It sets our dog off and drives her insane yet she still does it.
I find it incredibly intrusive and I don't know if our neighbours know she's doing it and she's only a child but we do not have children and aren't particularly fond of them either.

But it’s making the dog bark which is annoying to the OP. Haven’t you read the thread??

Yes I’ve read it. The dog wouldn’t bark if she bade friends with it

Why are you on Mumsnet if you don't have children, and you don't like them?

Water pistol / sprinkler

Not necessarily true, a dog will bark for various reasons. Nothing to suggest the dog wouldn’t continue to bark even if she made friends with it.
But regardless, why should the OP facilitate a friendship between a neighbouring child and her dog (which doesn’t sound like what she wants) purely because the parents can’t be arsed to parent, and the child does what she wants 🤷🏼‍♀️

Control your dog.

A cat can look at the Queen.

Meaningless bollocks.

It's a normal sized garden fence. I think she stands in a table to peer over.

Have you tried speaking to her parents.

Get a big hose and water your garden ! Would be a shame if you accidentally soaked her! She knows exactly what she’s doing and she’s enjoying winding you up.

Yes I’m sure a 5 year old girl is that manipulative 😂 there are posters on this thread that sound more immature than the 5 year old

MintSnail · 08/04/2026 03:32

Trellis

Hohumitsreallyallthereis · 08/04/2026 04:03

Given the hold is barking at your dog, and her parents not parenting, I’d say something along the lines of piss off too.

Read the thread!! Parents are in denial, their little precious wouldn't do such a thing

Wonder if it's acceptable to say you don't like any other massive generalised group of people in the same way people seem to think it's acceptable to say they "don't like" children.

Onleemoi · 08/04/2026 07:17

Stop worrying about mners having children or not and start thinking about why you’re trying to blame the op (and her dog!) for this situation. Parent your children properly and people won’t be so pissed off by them.

BeardofHagrid · 08/04/2026 07:17

She’s an innocent child. She’ll get bored eventually, just let her do it.

Onleemoi · 08/04/2026 07:31

And if she doesn’t get bored? What age do kids need to be before you’re allowed to be annoyed by them?

Tuinton · 08/04/2026 07:32

BTW I agree this isn't OK, I just find it completely bizarre that it's deemed acceptable to just say you "don't like" children in a way that wouldn't be ok about any other group of people.

Is this a genuine question or just too many words to say that you “wish you were still able to tell it like it is without PC gone mad”?

Innocent until proven guilty.

Onleemoi · 08/04/2026 07:36

It’s the behaviour people don’t like. Help your kids out by teaching them how to behave.

SillyQuail · 08/04/2026 07:36

Our neighbours have a dark that barks every time one of us is on our driveway. Sometimes our kids look through the hedge to try and see it. I think your barky dog is the problem, not a kid being curious. She'll stop being interested before long but your dog will still be a nuisance to them if it barks every time someone looks at it

Maxme · 08/04/2026 07:49

Obviously barbed wire and a motion sensor with sirens.Or as the days get warmer you must develop an interest in nudism.
