AIBU to think female sports categories should apply at all levels not just the olympics?

In light of the welcome news that biological males or people with SRY (Y) gene are no longer allowed to compete in the women’s category in the Olympics, AIBU to think that it shouldn’t only be elite sports women who should have fairness and safety in sport?

AIBU to think that all women and girls deserve the protected female category for both fairness and safety from grass roots sport to county level and beyond.

I mean, what is the point of having separate categories, which are there for biological differences if anyone can self identify into them.

@ChateauMargaux agreed that governing bodies were all very much laggards on this. But I do feel that we should celebrate the progress that many have made and not muddy the waters. Many sports, from grassroots to elite, have now been made safe for women. In my own sport of cycling, the outrage among the grassroots at a single individual transitioning and then racing in women's races (while still having 'male' on his licence) prompted swift action by British Cycling which was then adopted by the UCI (the global governing body). Since then, I have not heard of a single incident of a male racing, or attempting to race, in a women's race. Put the rules in place and people will obey them for the most part.

You are entitled to your stance on this. I don't feel compelled to agree with you.

Women were treated with contempt, we lost 10 years of putting women and girls at the forefront of their own sports. It is not over.. we have lost many female only programmes and activities.
