Tesco club card vouchers aren’t worth it anymore

Just about to book a Butlin’s holiday and thought I’d see if I could use some Tesco vouchers, I’ve got about £120 worth of vouchers, all good except you have to use them against the ‘brochure price’ which seems to be a random number plucked out of the air that no one would ever pay
to go to Butlins, so if I pay cash it’s £500, if I want to use my vouchers it’s £900, so it costs me more.

Years ago they used to be really good, I used to use them at Goldsmiths or Merlin attractions and get money off, now every thing I’ve looked at to use them up is basically a con, you can’t use them against the normal price, you have to use them against the ‘on the day’ price that no one ever really pays, and unless you’ve got enough to cover the whole cost you may as well just pay cash.

They are better to use against a hoseasons holiday but generally they are not great now..

Rainbowdottie · 03/04/2026 18:27

tbh I’ve never looked into what I can do with them. I save mine all year round and then use them for my Christmas shop and for that , I feel they’re fantastic. my Christmas shop feels absolutely free with all sorts of goodies, extras and alcohol that I’d probably never buy (or afford). Maybe save them for your shopping and pay the butlins cash as that’s a big difference

We love ours - we use them at pizza express! You get 3 times the value of them.

Bumblebeeforever · 03/04/2026 18:36

I don’t shop in Tesco and our local Pizza Express closed last year, we’ve got an Ask but they’ve got a sign in the window saying that branch doesn’t accept them.

But you must shop in Tesco to get some points into vouchers? If you’re not a regular shopper just use them up on a shop when you’re next in there and don’t bother with them in future.

Fairly sure it’s only double the value now, changed a year or two ago.

Yes you can use on shopping, but £10 worth of vouchers saves you £10, whereas at restaurants, holidays etc it saves you £20. But yes, I’ve found it doesn’t end up saving much if anything due to higher prices than advertised usually. Eg I used towards a Legoland ticket, which was£39 on their portal but just buying was £32. However as I had enough to cover the entire cost it did save me. I can see how with a bigger purchase like a holiday it would actually end up costing you more as well as using all your vouchers up!

On the other hand, they’re something for nothing. You could stop using your club card but it’s not like you’ll save anything doing that.

I don’t shop in Tesco then how did you accrue the vouchers OP? 🤔

I don't have kids, so the theme parks/lego land things are useless for me. I've previously used the vouchers for a denby dinner set, but think they are going bust. Nearly all the restaurants you can use them at, are a 30min drive from me.

OP- I'd buy your holiday and use the vouchers elsewhere.

I’ve got their credit card, so I get the vouchers from that.

Surely if you don't shop at Tesco then they are a nice bonus of the credit card and a free £120 shop is excellent value.

ImLeavingWalford · 03/04/2026 18:51

I’ve just used mine to book tickets at Thorpe Park against the online advanced booking discounted price (not the on-the-gate full price) and they worked fine. Basically got two free tickets. Very happy 😀

The rest of the year, I just use them for free wine!

Maybe look at swapping to a virgin credit card rather than a Tesco if you'd get more value from flight upgrades. I convert all my Tesco points to virgin points now (You get double the points I beleive)

TartanMammy · 03/04/2026 18:54

I use them at tenpin bowling and Cineworld, it works out as a 'free' day out for us, as I don't have to part with any actual cash.

I have also used them for Alton towers and new the prices were slightly inflated but it still meant I hadn't spent any real money, so still felt like a saving.

DogEra · 03/04/2026 18:55

They’re not as good as they used to be but we’ve still found them good on some days out and eating out. We spend loads at Tesco so have lots of points, sometimes we just use them on our shopping.

PieonaBarm · 03/04/2026 18:56

I use them magazine subscriptions for DMIL and DFIL at Christmas. Gardeners World goes down a treat!!

mrsnjw · 03/04/2026 18:57

I only ever change mine up for restaurant vouchers. They saved me £40 in pizza express on weds. You can change up and get x3 the price at the moment.

This is what we do. We get our Christmas goodies, which is lovely at an expensive time of year.

Holiday next week using hotels.com in apartments. easyJet holidays you can just use a gift card so can pay chunks of a holiday and use codes. Cottages.com is good as well and includes the site discounts.

NoSoupForU · 03/04/2026 19:09

I use mine for foodbank shopping. There's nothing that looks attractive on the list!

Didn't know you could use them on cottages.com! I use them to get cheaper railcards.

MerylSqueak · 03/04/2026 19:13

I use them to buy a Family Railcard and. 2 Together Railcard every year.

I used to do Denby but that's gone into administration.

Sometimes I use them to buy chocolate or flowers for presents.

I do this too. I did use them once for a trip to Blackpool Zoo which absolutely wasn’t worth it so haven’t bothered since.

We’ve had some great last min school holiday breaks with them!

Badballerina · 03/04/2026 19:15

was going to use some recently on stena ferries but it was more expensive using vouchers than just booking normally

Monolithique · 03/04/2026 19:18

They're worth less than years ago, but they did heavily advertise the reduction.

I use them nearly always for cineworld.

KeeepWalking · 03/04/2026 19:18

I just turn them into £ vouchers and use in my next shop.
