Tesco club card vouchers aren’t worth it anymore

Just about to book a Butlin’s holiday and thought I’d see if I could use some Tesco vouchers, I’ve got about £120 worth of vouchers, all good except you have to use them against the ‘brochure price’ which seems to be a random number plucked out of the air that no one would ever pay
to go to Butlins, so if I pay cash it’s £500, if I want to use my vouchers it’s £900, so it costs me more.

Years ago they used to be really good, I used to use them at Goldsmiths or Merlin attractions and get money off, now every thing I’ve looked at to use them up is basically a con, you can’t use them against the normal price, you have to use them against the ‘on the day’ price that no one ever really pays, and unless you’ve got enough to cover the whole cost you may as well just pay cash.

We save the whole year of points to book return eurochunnel trips - costs about £260 so getting it for free feels like great value !

Terfedout · 03/04/2026 19:25

I book spa days through spaseekers using them. It's fabulous and basically free. I collect enough points to get 4 spa days per year.

Eurotunnel always used to be a good way to use them as well. Not done that in a few years, but hopefully they still accept them.

StandardLampski · 03/04/2026 19:34

I use ours tobhave Disney +

Hoping to use them next yr to get tk france ( need to investigate ferries or tunnel, slightly worried now but hey ho.

Also the card gets you discounts on wine etc...

Anewuser · 03/04/2026 19:43

But you’re getting them just because you’ve used their credit card. You don’t have to use the vouchers.

I agree that the vouchers used to be worth more - years ago we saved them to use at Goldsmiths to buy our son an expensive watch, which we would never have been able to afford.

If there really isn’t anything you think you can convert your points to, then donate them to charity.

tbh I’ve never looked into what I can do with them. I save mine all year round and then use them for my Christmas shop and for that , I feel they’re fantastic. my Christmas shop feels absolutely free with all sorts of goodies, extras and alcohol that I’d probably never buy (or afford). Maybe save them for your shopping and pay the butlins cash as that’s a big difference

That's what we do too. I tell my OH we've got this much, what choc/nibbles/drink do you want to buy?! So our treats work out 'free'.

BewareoftheLambs · 03/04/2026 19:45

I find them really good for days out still as you can just take the amount of your total.

WhitegreeNcandle · 03/04/2026 19:47

I use them for Cineworld and rail cards. They’re definitely not as good as they used to be. I got irrationally annoyed when they removed the deliver pass

purpleroses2 · 03/04/2026 19:50

It’s long been the case that you can only use them against full price, not alongside any other discounts. You can’t use them on drinks in the restaurants, and you can’t use them to cover the taxes at Hotels.com either.

It’s still one of the better loyalty schemes out there though.

ExOptimist · 03/04/2026 19:52

I think they're still excellent even though it's now double not 3 times value. I also disagree that you have to buy things at an inflated price.
I haven't paid for my gardeners world magazine subscription for years.
I use them for a senior Railcard which would otherwise cost £35 which is exactly the same as anyone would pay.
I get an annual RHS subscription and RAC top level breakdown cover.

They save me hundreds of pounds a year.

Some restaurants are back to offering 3 x the value https://www.tescoplc.com/tesco-clubcard-lifts-the-nation-s-spirits-with-triple-voucher-rewards-at-top-uk-restaurants/

We've went a long weekend the last 2 Decembers to Barcelona and paid for our accommodation with our vouchers. I think they're well worth it!

We use them at Pizza Express - got £90 of our bill last time! OK they aren’t as good as they used to be but it’s still free money so I’m not sure why anyone is that bothered - and it would cost you more not to use it when shopping given the discounts.
If the rewards don’t work for you on the credit card, get a different card - there are loads of options 🤷🏻‍♀️

DeathMetalMum · 03/04/2026 19:55

I used mine for Disney plus subscription. I've also just used the triple points offer to use to eat out while we are away at Easter. We have also used them for theme parks in the past.

tinyspiny · 03/04/2026 19:56

I don’t understand the ‘not worth anything’ as you’ve got them for nothing , you were doing the shopping anyway so they are just a bonus . I spent £75 of vouchers on a Karcher pressure washer that was on offer in our local store earlier this week so to me that is a free pressure washer .

vdbfamily · 03/04/2026 19:56

We are going to Prezzo tomorrow with£60 worth of vouchers. We have had their credit card for years and have always just used them for meals out.

Bumblebeeforever · 03/04/2026 20:04

Thanks for the suggestions, we’re going to London soon so we’re going to plan in a restaurant we can use them in! I’ve actually switched to a different credit card and I was just trying to use up the last vouchers, I think I was just excited when I thought I could use them for something I was going to buy anyway, so then I was irrationally annoyed when I read the T&Cs and found out it would cost me more than not using them. There isn’t anything else I’d normally buy anyway, so it’s a case of finding a restaurant to use them up.

I rarely shop in Tesco, but most of our monthly spending is made on the their credit card. We visit Ireland most years and the vouchers go a long way to covering the return fare with Irish Ferries for two of us and a vehicle.

BeNaiceMauveDreamer · 03/04/2026 20:10

I completely agree. At pizza express I couldn't even use them with the kids eat free in half term. Definitely not as good as they used to be!

modgepodge · 03/04/2026 18:43

Fairly sure it’s only double the value now, changed a year or two ago.

Yes you can use on shopping, but £10 worth of vouchers saves you £10, whereas at restaurants, holidays etc it saves you £20. But yes, I’ve found it doesn’t end up saving much if anything due to higher prices than advertised usually. Eg I used towards a Legoland ticket, which was£39 on their portal but just buying was £32. However as I had enough to cover the entire cost it did save me. I can see how with a bigger purchase like a holiday it would actually end up costing you more as well as using all your vouchers up!

On the other hand, they’re something for nothing. You could stop using your club card but it’s not like you’ll save anything doing that.

Nope it’s definitely triple again- and triple in Bella Italia and others too. They went back to being triple a couple of months ago. We use them very regularly. Spend a fortune in Tesco so have vouchers all the time.

I just use mine to pay for part of my shopping in store but I know someone who paid for a big chunk of their Open University degree with them about 15 years ago.

Chocolate23 · 03/04/2026 20:35

I use £300 a year for EasyJet and we have a weekend break somewhere. The rest I use for eating out. I love clubcard I think it's great.

Florencelatsy · 03/04/2026 21:07

Doing a low spend year and used mine recently to pay for lunch at Pizza Express with my mum for her birthday my daughter. I also thought they'd gone to only X2 value but it was still X3.
They accidentally let me use them to pay for drinks too with them so a lovely meal out cost me £11! We all really enjoyed it and probably enjoyed it more as it was near enough "free".
I hadn't changed up any vouchers for absolutely ages though so was nice to have a good sum.
Really miss the X4 days though 😔
None of the loyalty cards are what they used to be though - Boots and Nectar I'm looking at you!

Oh just a note to remember - they have limitations on what restaurants you can use them in (certain locations aren't included) so check before you change them up as some London locations are excluded 😬

YANBU. I wanted to use them for Legoland but they were for tickets only so if you’re buying package with one of the hotels you can’t use them, not even to part pay.
