Tesco club card vouchers aren’t worth it anymore

Just about to book a Butlin’s holiday and thought I’d see if I could use some Tesco vouchers, I’ve got about £120 worth of vouchers, all good except you have to use them against the ‘brochure price’ which seems to be a random number plucked out of the air that no one would ever pay
to go to Butlins, so if I pay cash it’s £500, if I want to use my vouchers it’s £900, so it costs me more.

Years ago they used to be really good, I used to use them at Goldsmiths or Merlin attractions and get money off, now every thing I’ve looked at to use them up is basically a con, you can’t use them against the normal price, you have to use them against the ‘on the day’ price that no one ever really pays, and unless you’ve got enough to cover the whole cost you may as well just pay cash.

You must use your credit card A LOT to have accumulated those points. Maybe take a look at your finance controls, and you'll be better off with or without the Tesco points.

What a load of rubbish. If you put all of a completely normal amount of spending on a Tesco credit card and save all the vouchers( which last for 2 years) it's pretty easy to acquire £120 in vouchers.

I like them for treasure trails.

lol if my spending was out of control I’d be booking a holiday at Centre Parcs, not Butlins 🤣 I just pay for everything on the credit card and clear it at the end of the month, it made sense when I first got it and you got 4 x the value at Goldsmiths, I got a decent discount on our wedding rings.

Used £18 in vouchers this week for £36 off dinner at a Hungry Horse. Dinner for five was less than £30. Frequently use them in Pizza Express (triple value). Used them last year for 4 of us to go to Alton Towers. I do shop in Tesco and have a Tesco credit card and it soon adds up.

hazelberry · 03/04/2026 22:43

I save mine all year and get my Christmas shop with them.

NancyMeyers · 03/04/2026 22:53

If you're still looking at Butlins, they normally do a Blue light Card discount (if that's relevant to you)

Amblealongside · 03/04/2026 23:09

Has that changed recently? I booked a Butlins trip in February, we went last month and my vouchers covered the whole cost. It was a cheap break but there wasn't a change in the price from the online quote compared to when I rang to book using my vouchers.

Olderbutt · 03/04/2026 23:19

Ive only used them once for a holiday and that worked to our advantage. We've used them for a 2 Together railcard and will do so again this month. We mostly use them for eating out, 2 x value although Pizza Express. Zizi and I think ask are x3 atm

Grtscott · 03/04/2026 23:22

You're so right.

I miss the heady days when I spent them on family holidays to the Maldives, NZ, Hong Kong.

A free meal at Pizza Express that I didn't really want doesn't have the same cachet.

We have their credit card and have been saving points for the Eurotunnel this summer holidays. It wasn’t until I’d already converted them to Eurotunnel vouchers I realised (my fault) it would only allow us to use the vouchers to book the most inflexible ‘standard’ ticket so you have to travel on that specific train or risk waiting for hours for a space on a train.

We were hoping to book the semi flexible so on the way back up through France we didn’t have to stress if we were running a little behind due to traffic as on the middle fare you can travel within 4 hours of booked train. In the end we’ve had to split to 2 single tickets and used the vouchers to cover the entire standard fare on way out and then just paid the semi flexible ticket on way back which was then more expensive.

It’s still saved us money and has more value than if we’d have just used them for a Tesco shop but was just a bit awkward and a faff to do!

When you consider how much shopping costs at Tesco compared to ALDI/Lidl, they’ve never ever been worth it. Gimmicky.

gohomeroger1 · 03/04/2026 23:31

I have used mine for a disney plus subscription and a family railcard. Needed to renew my railcard anyway. Don't do massive shops as use Sainsburys but get points from our two mobile phone contracts and car insurance i think.

I rarely shop in Tesco because it is expensive despite all its advertising to the contrary.

If you have a Tesco credit card, not just a Clubcard, you can shop anywhere you like and earn points.
