Will antisemitism ever be looked at and dealt with in the same way as Islamophobia is?

AIBU for thinking it won’t? Because it doesn’t seem to be the case in this country or my home country (Germany).

(I just googled because it didn’t seem right to have antisemitism in lower capitals, but apparently that is correct, as I thought)

Much love to the Jewish community, wherever they are.

Yes. But not less of an important issue than a singer at a concert, which is the point I was making.

I don’t think the failings of certain police forces is an indication of how seriously either Islamophobia or antisemitism is taken in this country.

Not just the failure of certain police forces. It was/is a societal and systemic failure by police, politians, councillors, social workers, the media, the criminal justice system. This scandal shows that those in positions of authority, especially in the public sector and on the left, are terrified of being accused of Islamophobia. And this is the result. It's rotten to the core.

5MinuteArgument · 07/04/2026 21:07

Islamophobia is taken more seriously than anti-Semitism in the UK. Imagine if 'Ye' had made a load of anti-Muslim comments and produced anti-Muslim merch. Would he have been booked to headline a major music festival? Of course not.

Why do we still have an Islamophobic front bencher sitting in parliament then? If the leader of the opposition is happy to have an obvious Islamophobe sit next to her, it is evidence that Islamophobia is not take seriously enough by people who matter.

if antisemitism wasn’t being taken seriously, why has a man been banned from entering the country causing a whole festival to be cancelled? I’d say that’s evidence that antisemitism is taken very seriously.

I’m saying that IMO, racism from a foreign rap artist can be discredited and discarded more easily than racism from an elected politician who has a prominent place in our government.

I’m also saying that this example shows the OP is wrong in her assertion that Islamophobia is taken more seriously than antisemitism.

Edited

Kanye West has more influence worldwide than an opposition politician who most people probably haven't heard of.

But continue to underplay Nazism and Holocaust denial. If anyone is proving OPs point it's you.

I don’t think your accusation carries any weight as long as you continue to ignore the points I’ve made. It makes you a hypocrite.

Which frontbencher and what has he said that is Islamophobic?

You’re accusing me of underplaying nazism on a thread comparing the consequences of antisemitism and Islamophobia while underplaying racism in our government.

Do you know what - how fucking dare you. This has got to stop. How dare you throw accusations like that around because people don't share your point of view. Totally out of order.

I'm not underplaying racism in our government. I thibk what thr MP said was awful. Just not as bad as being a literal fucking Nazi.

So you're overlooking the fact that Labour Friends of Israel has been accepting money from Israel for years - including Keir Starmer and David Lammy? Labour's top team has accepted hundreds of thousands from the Israel Lobby and some of us think that is extremely questionable - which is fine, because it doesn't make us antisemitic, it means that we are free thinking people who look at the facts.

I think that being a Nazi, praising a man who killed six million Jews and making many antisemitic comments over years is worse than making one ignorant Islamophobic tweet about mass prayer. How fucking dare me.

I've added this to the wrong quote - sorry, was too furious about someone accused in real time. Sorry Dexter!

Do not try gaslighting because it won't work. You've just accused someone of underplaying Nazism and Holocaust denial because they are pointing out the false equivalence of your statement. Stop it - you don't want to be falsely accused of things do you? No. So stop doing it to others, it's absolutely lowlife behaviour.

The difference is that the antisemitic man has been cancelled and banned from the country. The Islamophobic man has been welcomed back to his seat in parliament where no one seems to care how abhorrent his views are.

Agreed it's utterly depressing - as is the LFI bollocks! Please do not let anyone try to bully you out of a conversation by using false accusations. It's in the playbook of people who have no legitimate argument.

I don’t like the fact that Jewish people are impacted by antisemitism and hate crimes.

I don’t think Muslim people have it any better quite frankly.

I’m Indian and having to see over 20’000 brown children die and no western government actually care about that grieves me. I have a brown child and to see how little value is placed on their lives is appalling. It makes me realise that as a non Muslim brown person that we have little value placed on our lives regardless of religion.

What brown children are you talking about?

Various Labour party high ups have had the boot for antisemitism, but Islamophobic sentiments are a badge of honour to many.

I do believe that global events of the last few years have created a rise in anti-Israel opinions, and a corresponding rise in anti-Zionism and yes a smaller but real increase in straight up antisemitism. But this is against a background of general and persistent Islamophobia which has been going on for thirty years or more (the limit of my political conscious).

I don't think there is any point in arguing who has it worse.

Anti semitism has been around since the jews were forced into the diaspora. Israel is the excuse de jour right now.

5MinuteArgument · 08/04/2026 16:55

It tells you a lot about the hip hop 'community' that they were flocking to buy tickets to see someone who has fuelled animosity between black people and Jews in the USA. And he was headlining for three nights, not just one.

To be honest, it doesn't surprise me at all.

timeserved · 09/04/2026 01:34

balabusta · 08/04/2026 15:58

Anti Jew attitudes are an historic theme, for sure. But there has been recent increase in both anti-Israelism and antisemitism is obviously due to Israel's aggressive defence policies. And it is the recent increase which has made it comparable in some ways to the general and persistent Islamophobia that has been around (promoted?) for the last few decades.

So my take on the OP is that it has got worse for Jews, but it has been bad for Muslims and Arabs for some time. Not something to score and compete about, just a shame on all of us.

So what was the excuse before 1948?

Sorry, but its just the good old antisemitism with a convenient excuse. There was always an excuse, people always felt justified to attack and hate Jews when they did it.
