Cake-gate at work

EnfysDilys · 31/03/2026 18:43

I made some Easter cakes for work colleagues today, enough for everyone with a few to spare.
One woman ate eight! She cheerfully announced this in front of everyone at lunchtime. This meant not everyone had one.
WIBU next time to leave a note reminding her to share! Or hiding them from her? Or setting an alarm around them …

They were Easter nest cakes 🐣 when she announced she’d had eight, a fair few people said they’d not had one cos they’d all gone, she just said she’d enjoyed them! 🤣

She is either very brass-faced or she is so spectacularly dim she has not made the connection that her greed means other people miss out. Did she not seem even the slightest bit embarrassed?

It's a horrible thing to do, adding laxatives imo. I suspect everyone on here will disagree with me, though.

Perhaps it’ll stop her scoffing cakes and teach her to share in future? I can’t be doing with greed and wolfing 8 cakes that were made for sharing is greedy. There's no other word for it.

Yep, I’ll disagree with you on the grounds of it being youthful idiocy!
We were around 17 or
18 maybe, and did all sorts of daft things. I’m in my 60s now, no harm came to anyone.
The scoffer of the cakes was always doing dares for a laugh, so if she ever found out she’d laugh about it.

2021x · 01/04/2026 00:07

Hah! Next time say there is "enough for one each", then let everyone police themselves.

Also put a picture of some human eyes above the plate apparently people tend to behave better when they think they are being watched.

VimtoDemon · 01/04/2026 00:17

I think I'd leave a note next time saying enough for one each, please don't be greedy

That way she may limit herself to 4 😂

How can someone possibly eat eight cakes in one day...?!?

You don't mean cupcakes, do you?

WellThatsAlrightThen · 01/04/2026 00:22

3luckystars · 31/03/2026 21:25

Ah, they are made of shredded wheat, they are practically vegetables. They are healthy!

She did nothing wrong. She is probably on a health kick.

Just like carrot cake!

Have a look upthread at the recipe, they're very small and quite light. 8 is still a lot though.

Ok. It's a cruel thing imo, possibly dangerous, but as you say, you were all young and foolish. I'm glad she came to no harm.

We had a girl in our college group who was like this - it was maddening… every single time one of us baked, she’d pounce and scoff as many as possible.

One of the girls ground up some laxatives called Bile Beans and used them in half the mixture and tipped us off not to touch the blue iced ones.

Lets just say she thought she had developed an allergy and stayed away from the iced cakes in future.

This level of greedy is not uncommon. My DBrother used to nick all my baking as well! 🙄

Justice via apocalyptic shits is objectively hilarious...but you've essentially poisoned someone there. It's a good job she didn't find out, or have a serious reaction to the laxative.

My mum played this prank on my dad when they were young and he ended up extremely ill 😅

Cherryicecreamx · 01/04/2026 00:44

I mean what a compliment 😅 and if I couldn't resist them that much, I sure wouldn't be announcing my gluttony.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 01/04/2026 00:56

Not food related but some people are so greedy. I took a big basket of spare cosmetics/make-up into work. All brand new but items I’d got as gifts/freebies that I wouldn’t use. People were taking one or two bits and all was fine. At the end of the day I saw a staff member waltzing off with the entire basket that was still half full. When I asked her what she was doing she brazenly announced that she was taking them as her brother could sell them to make some money. Said brother was a druggy, out of work scrounger. Needless to say I relieved her of the basket and told her what I thought of that idea. What a fucking nerve!

I'm sure something like that happened in an episode of Dave Gorman's Modern Life Is Goodish!

Francestein · 01/04/2026 01:33

I think you should get HR to handle this one. She fucked up a perfectly lovely gesture of yours. If she had waited and discovered any left at the end of the day, she could have ASKED, but pigging out on 8 cakes is gross.

cinnamonda · 01/04/2026 02:22

some people just have a sweet tooth, let her be. When someone drinks a whole bottle of wine or downs like 8 pints of beer or shots pretty fast, noone says they were greedy - noone bats an eye - in fact, mostly they celebrate 🥳

Friendlygingercat · 01/04/2026 02:23

Tell your greedy colleague that you will make her a Spring Surprise cake. When she puts it in her mouth two steel bolts will spring out and pierce her cheeks, giving her a real surprise.

And if she made/bought those cakes or that wine herself, all power to her.

Except she didn't; she effectively stole a treat from 7 other people. What if other people there have 'a sweet tooth' as well? Nobody is stopping her (or anybody) from enjoying the cake from OP and then going to buy themselves more cakes.

That completely depends. The beer drinker hasn’t deprived anyone else of beer so that’s okay. But if the wine drinker is sitting there necking the bottle down while another 4 people with empty wine glasses are looking at them doing that when the bottle is meant to be shared, they cease to become ‘someone with a sweet tooth’ and become a total cunt with a hell of a brass neck.

Isnt HR busy enough with the endless other things MN says to report? if someone came to me to report this they would be told if they can't handle it like a grown up there will be a ban on bringing sharing food in

Givemeabreak26 · 01/04/2026 04:12

I mean, I definitely could eat 8 nest cakes in one go... however, I would not in this situation because I'm not greedy and know other people want some too. It's definitely strange. Maybe she's just very selfish or has no social awareness?

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 01/04/2026 04:14

TBF not everybody would want one. I don't much like cake & sometimes have to force some down for politeness. I'd be very grateful if someone ate what had been designated 'my' share. Unless it was a chocolate sprinkle Krispy Kreme. That would not be good!

HoppingPavlova · 01/04/2026 04:23

Exactly. It’s perfectly normal, after initially raking ONE, for people to circle back at the end of the day/shift and IF there are some left to take another or say ‘do you mind if I take one home for x as they would love that cake’ or whatnot. Or often, people will be offered leftovers as easier than taking them all home. But you don’t get in and scoff most up front and not even give others a chance. This is the sort of societal shit you learn by 5yo so there is no excuse for an adult.

Francestein · 01/04/2026 05:18

@PollyBell Our HR is constantly rabbitting on about team dynamics. This woman’s entitlement absolutely undermined that. It would be better if OP spoke to HR, requesting them to explain how her gluttony meant that others missed out and may potentially make her a target.

Bluecrystal2 · 01/04/2026 05:27

There's always one! I would be the one to eat 8, but in secret.

You don’t drink a whole bottle of wine if it was ordered for the table for more than one of you.

She’s a greedy pig.
