Those of you with big dogs, do you ever look them in the eye and think “you’re a wolf”?

Only when she's howling. I look at my cat and I see a lion. He's vicious 😄

I think you have proved my point right there. Dogs are dirty and owners such as yourself are dirtier 🤣. You should be living outside with the dog

No. Wolves are smart, cunning and self sufficient. One of my big dogs has just scared himself by farting as he jumped onto the couch.

🤣🤣🤣

Wolves are not extinct.

Sorry, I should have clarified, dogs are descendants from Pleistocene wolves which are extinct. Yes the other wolves are still very much alive

Love the dog pics on this thread

Peacemirl · 30/03/2026 00:28

I don’t have a dog but I do sometimes give my goldfish a long hard stare and tell him he’s a piranha. It’s mainly to give his self-esteem a
boost, he’s not actually a piranha.

Your post doesn’t make sense, it’s a complete non sequitur, which does actually prove my point.

Love seeing dogs everywhere. Mind you, more than 1 in 3 households in the UK own a dog and that number is growing Where we live I would say about 90% of households have a dog -it’s great - so you might want to steer clear of the south west. 🐶🐾🐕

MyOtherProfile · 30/03/2026 07:27

No but I do look at my cat and think you're a lion.

Now, I would actually do this, just to give the chickens a confidence boost

Me to! Chickens are the best pets and love hugs

I’ve lived with Alsatians, and absolutely enjoyed the wolf like-ness of them. After all, Romulus and Remus, Jungle book…

Pet cats though, look all cute and cuddly though and pretend they have nothing to do with tigers. And then gently tread/paw you all over with their claws.

yes, I’m a dog person.

Oh you are so lucky I wish I had a big house and grounds and could have a wolf dog.

Could you do a AMA about your Wolfdog?

TheRozzers · 30/03/2026 12:08

No but my friend who adopted a Romanian street ‘dog’ does and you can probably guess why

Gently?
Is your cat broken?

drivinmecrazy · 30/03/2026 15:26

Yep. Not every day but yesterday most definitely.
the day started stupidly early with a muntjac in the garden so there starts the spooky wolf like howl.
later on a walk he decided to befriend a lovely therapy dog while we spoke to the owner. DH stupidly decided to say ‘hello’ to said dog followed by about ten seconds of fur flying, from both parties.
I just thank god that he was on a long line so was quickly pulled into control.
At That moment I could appreciate that he’s more beast than pet at times!!!
I must say this was an isolated incident thankfully.
also to add our dog goes manic with his zoomies under a full moon, ranging from impressions of horses to full werewolf mode when he points his snout to the sky and howls to the moon.

JackieGoodman · 30/03/2026 15:42

Sometimes, he's a mostly black border collie woth pointy ears rather than flopped. If he was twice his size, he'd definitely look like a black wolf.
Other dogs definitely seem to think so, he's v soft but lots of dogs react badly to him, I think, to them, he does resemble a wolf and they have an innate reaction to that.

My old female ddog reacted similarly to German Shepherds.
Not him in pic but v similar

🤣

One of mine's a Border Collie - an outdoorsy, energetic, intelligent, all-weather, up-for-anything breed you might think.
Mine just came flying in the back door, eyes rolling and all a-tremble because he got caught by a gust of wind 🙄
When it rains he'll only go outside if i go first 😄

YorkshireGoldie · 29/03/2026 15:49

It’s not entirely inaccurate what you have said, dogs are descendants from (now extinct) wolves

Wolves are not extinct.

YerMotherWasAHamster · 31/03/2026 21:41

SereneGoose · 31/03/2026 21:35

Wolves are not extinct.

The wolves in question are. They are the wolves that are the common ancestors of both dogs and modern wolves.

WiddlinDiddlin · 31/03/2026 21:56

SereneGoose · 31/03/2026 21:35

Wolves are not extinct.

The other poster is correct. Modern dog and modern wolf are descended from a common ancestor who is very much extinct.

Whilst they have diverged from the same branch - what makes a dog a dog is the opposite of what makes a wolf a wolf, so whilst genetically they are close enough to interbreed, behaviourally they are a very long way apart even if you ignore the physiological differences.

TrashHeap · 31/03/2026 22:05

No. 🙄

iloveeverykindofcat · 04/04/2026 06:32

By the way, I know someone who had an actual, confirmed high content wolfdog. Rescued, by special license, and she lived in the middle of nowhere with a massive outdoor run for him. She loved him, but was the first to say he was a shit pet and a worse protection dog (wolves don't protect humans. They sense danger, they bolt. Only dogs that have been bred to protect humans do that). He didn't even look particularly intimidating - he was lean and rangy and medium sized not big and muscular. He never fully house trained, and may or may not come inside, depending on how he felt. But he existed, so someone had to look after him, and not many people have the appropriate setup.

Elsvieta · 04/04/2026 21:11

Arlanymor · 29/03/2026 15:51

I remember watching a really interesting documentary on how dogs are not descended from wolves - they just share a common ancestor. Much in the same way that we're not descended from neanderthals, but also share a common ancestor. I will have to trawl YouTube to find it again as it was so interesting. My mum loves wolves, she would happily do a Mowgli if she could.

Most of of us (all those who aren't African) are descended from Neanderthals - we have about one or two percent Neanderthal DNA. Neanderthals interbred with homo sapiens.
