Those of you with big dogs, do you ever look them in the eye and think “you’re a wolf”?

My big boy won’t go to bed without his special blanket and is scared of his own farts.

DancingLions · 29/03/2026 16:20

Well I sometimes look at my cats and think they're tigers! 😂 They're actually really small but sometimes they act like tigers 🐅

PfizerFan · 29/03/2026 16:21

Yes. Especially huskies.. I mean wolves. I mean huskies. Shudder..

Hansolemio · 29/03/2026 16:23

My boy just farted and got up, looked backwards, and walked away in disgust. With himself.

WinningBV · 29/03/2026 16:24

We have a wolfdog. So yeah, I sometimes do think it.

1000StrawberryLollies · 29/03/2026 16:24

No. If I had a more wolf-like dog I might, I suppose. My big pointer who we sadly lost in October wasn't remotely wolfish. I always like gundogs best, and they have very unwolfy faces.

Ferryl · 29/03/2026 16:26

No but I do think, when I'm looking at her lovingly, "you'd eat me in a heartbeat wouldn't you if I died and no one came to feed you?"

OttersOnAPlane · 29/03/2026 16:28

My hens are definitely dinosaurs. They know it, too. It's partly why I love them.

There's a wolf down the road; she's a husky cross and remarkably gorgeous, but also looks like she could rip your throat out if she fancied it.

Hellohelga · 29/03/2026 16:29

My choccy labs love to play tug with a blanket, taking one end each and tugging, twisting and shaking, whilst growling. I thought it was a cute game…till they did it with a squirrel one day, ripped it in half and ate half each. So yes, I’m aware their behaviours are based on those of wild animals.

ohyesido · 29/03/2026 16:30

I often think that’s not a dog that’s a wolf if friends post photos of husky dogs or Akitas

WhatNext2026 · 29/03/2026 16:32

A bit off topic but mine will fart away quite happily but if I dare to fart anywhere except the bathroom, she's most indignant.

LatteLady · 29/03/2026 16:33

My late DSis used to say that dogs came in two categories, apprentice wolves and apprentice rats... she was not keen on either group.

Flicitytricity · 29/03/2026 16:34

I've had labradors for the past 40 years, usually 2 at a time.
In all that time I've had 3 who, I am quite sure, would have survived in the wild. They regularly caught, and ate rabbits, scavenged, in bins and hedgerows and two of them actually caught decent sized fish during a dip in a river.
And before the pile on starts, I did NOT 'allow' them to mooch in bins, but when you've walked them on lead for a mile into woodland, you really don't expect them to hare off to the bins in the carpark once off lead🙂
My other 5 labs were lazy buggers who were never, ever related to wolves, more likely descended from hamsters🤣

StephensLass1977 · 29/03/2026 16:35

Nope.

Easterbunnyishotandcross · 29/03/2026 16:35

We had a husky for over a decade... Not like other ddogs..
Me and dh actually went walking with wolves. 98%wolf.. Learnt a lot.

Mostly the difference seemed to be they didn't seek l out affection from humans. Unlike most ddogs.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2026 16:36

I would tell the guinea-pigs they were teeny tiny capybaras (see attached photos for reference ) but their closest relative was a porcupine which completely blew their tiny rodent minds and left them whingeing for dandelions to get over the shock .

The cats are Mini Panthers and descended from Bastet the Egyptian Cat Goddess , so they don't need to be told anything .

Yes but other people’s dogs

I look into my cat’s eyes and say, your cousin is a tiger.

Littletreefrog · 29/03/2026 16:36

No, wolves are pretty intelligent my dog is a doofus. I do think my cat shares very many mannerisms with big cats. I can definitely the link there more so than the dog and wolves.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 29/03/2026 16:37

I tell my cats they’re lions/ tigers all the time.

YerMotherWasAHamster · 29/03/2026 16:38

No more than I look at my husband and think well hello there, homo heidelbergensis

Oh you are so lucky I wish I had a big house and grounds and could have a wolf dog.

If you don’t mind, can you describe what it’s like having a wolf dog - how do they compare to regular dogs? What breeds have you had before?

DarthPaula · 29/03/2026 15:40

I had one who loved to be out in the snow and she’d go ahead of us, leading ‘her pack’, loping exactly like a wolf.

You could sense this was a state of dog bliss for her.

NorwichMom · 29/03/2026 16:43

i sometimes look at my little dog and think that. He looks like a little wolf cub.
