AIBU to think Facebook has gone quiet lately?

This might sound a bit daft but has anyone else noticed Facebook seems a lot quieter than it used to be?

I don’t post loads, but when I do (kids, days out, the odd life update etc) I feel like hardly anyone interacts anymore compared to a few years ago. Posts that would have got loads of likes/comments before now get barely anything.

I’ve also noticed I don’t really feel like posting much myself anymore, it almost feels a bit… embarrassing? Like oversharing or something, even though it never used to feel like that.

Most people I know seem to just watch stories or scroll rather than actually post on their main feed now.

Is it just me being oversensitive about likes 😅 or has Facebook genuinely declined and people have moved away from it?

AIBU to think it’s just not what it used to be?

People do seem to have moved away from facebook. I think I probably post once a year at most now.
Some people I know now use Instagram, but lots have stopped sharing so much of their lives, me included

XenoBitch · 26/03/2026 00:47

My feed is not full of my friends anymore. It is sponsored ads, AI shite, and people I do not know.
If I search and look up friends, I see they are still very active on FB... I just don't get shown their posts.

Same.

Some people have become less active but I think that’s in response to the sponsored / AI stuff.

Tourmalines · 26/03/2026 00:53

It’s definitely changed . I hardly post and same as my friends . It has a lot more advertising than used to be. I noticed a change around Covid . And every year it seems less interesting and interactive .

araiwa · 26/03/2026 01:01

I think the only reason most people haven't deleted Facebook completely is that they'd lose contact with many people

It's totally crap these days and barely usable so I hardly even look at it

Monty27 · 26/03/2026 01:11

It's been dumbed down for sure. So has Instagram now too as it's the same rubbish.

YANU. I don’t post anymore either, all feels a bit attention seeking now, I feel it’s outdated.

MayaPinion · 26/03/2026 03:24

I went through a vigorous delete of every advert and I saw more posts from friends, but ut is dying a slow death these days. The overwhelming reliance on sponsored content is making it unusable. Twitter is worse - it just a cesspit now. I used to love it but now it’s just full of people shouting about politics, incels, and slagging off celebrities using lies and conjecture.

Mine is exactly the same. It's rare I see any posts from friends but I constantly see posts from people I've never heard of and have no interest in.
It's becoming unusable.

Tableforjoan · 26/03/2026 05:44

too may adds and Ai posts and random people and groups I’m not in as I scroll my feed before I might see one friends post.

Unless you actively go and search your friends out your likely to miss most of their posts and knowing that means I’m less likely to post as well if the people I’m posting for won’t see it what’s the point.

Zanatdy · 26/03/2026 05:46

yes i’ve noticed too. I certainly post a lot less these days, when my kids were younger I used FB a lot. I prefer instragram these days (rarely post)

bunnyvsmonkey · 26/03/2026 05:49

I use it for niche groups (cat health conditions, cooking groups) prefer to use the anonymous setting on those.

Otherwise it's all AI slop.

ChaToilLeam · 26/03/2026 06:01

Sponsored ads and long-winded AI slop. It's dying.

WhoStoleAllTheUserNames · 26/03/2026 06:04

It’s still useful for local groups, but that’s about it sadly.

unfortunately it holds nearly 20 years of my history and photos and ‘diary’. I do look at memories every day. I need to work out how to get that all out.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 26/03/2026 06:09

It’s just evolved with SM in general- people have shifted from using it to follow people they know to largely using it to view content by people they don’t ( I found myself watching lambing reels last night) or engage through groups on specific topics. People don’t just post their own updates in the way they used to, which is both good and bad, depending on how they used to post. I think anonymous positing is also killing off some of the groups a bit.

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/03/2026 06:11

The anonymous posting on the group for my area has got ridiculous, it makes it harder & harder to follow threads.

I mostly just use FB now for hobby & interest groups.

Edited to add that if anon posters had to pick usernames that might be different, but it’s when there’s a thread full of posts from AnonymousPoster1234, 5678 and 9012. Like the time when MN had a load of user1234 usernames.

Daffodilsinthespring · 26/03/2026 06:15

I’m currently banned due to AI thinking I posted adverts, which I didn’t. Waiting for a person review to get it reinstated. It’s been three weeks now and after the first few days I haven’t missed it.

I’ve read three books, which makes me realised how much time I spent scrolling on there. When I get it back, I won’t be using it as much or posting anything.

youalright · 26/03/2026 06:18

I only use it now to wish people happy Birthday, look at local pages for road closures, crime etc. And its good to keep updated on births and deaths but apart from that people rarely post now.

Boopybop · 26/03/2026 06:21

was about to say exactly the same. I don’t see my friends posts on my feed anymore. It’s full of ads and posts from people I don’t know.

I used to be an avid facebook fan, I barely go on it now for that very reason and rarely post.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/03/2026 06:35

I like groups (but the overuse of anonymous is hard going and also making more groups more combative)
The rest is mainly sponsored shite. I find I look at it for 2mins then realise I've seen 4 adverts in a row and close it.

It doesn't flag up personal content for days and that was the intended purpose of the site/app.
How to kill the golden goose.

WhatNoRaisins · 26/03/2026 06:45

The local group is the only useful thing amongst the slop.

worrisomeasset · 26/03/2026 06:48

I think a lot of people are finding that WhatsApp is now the place where they can chat, share photos etc with friends and work colleagues in groups without wading through the mountains of unsolicited shit that now clogs up Facebook and Instagram feeds. Of course, Meta will eventually ruin WhatsApp just as they’ve ruined Facebook and Instagram, so let’s enjoy it while we can.

Manicmondayss · 26/03/2026 06:50

I still use it for a couple of groups but it’s definitely dying. I’m quite glad about it
