AIBU to think Facebook has gone quiet lately?

This might sound a bit daft but has anyone else noticed Facebook seems a lot quieter than it used to be?

I don’t post loads, but when I do (kids, days out, the odd life update etc) I feel like hardly anyone interacts anymore compared to a few years ago. Posts that would have got loads of likes/comments before now get barely anything.

I’ve also noticed I don’t really feel like posting much myself anymore, it almost feels a bit… embarrassing? Like oversharing or something, even though it never used to feel like that.

Most people I know seem to just watch stories or scroll rather than actually post on their main feed now.

Is it just me being oversensitive about likes 😅 or has Facebook genuinely declined and people have moved away from it?

AIBU to think it’s just not what it used to be?

I guess it’s had its time. Feed mostly full of AI tripe, people moaning about parking and repetitive questions about what time the Asdas opens 🥴

Maybe the new book by Sarah Wynn-Williams (Careless People) is opening people’s eyes to Zuckerberg!

I posted something on Facebook yesterday, a friend was round for dinner and she used her Facebook to look at the post by searching for me, the post can’t be seen 🤷‍♀️

I think people shifted away from it years ago tbh. I never personally got into it, I’m a young millennial so I used MySpace for a while as a teen, kind of skipped Facebook entirely and ended up on Instagram in my 20s. FB has a reputation for being a bit of an outdated middle aged platform. Most are on insta, TikTok, Snapchat and LinkedIn for work.

I find insta very much the same with regards to that my feed is full of people I don’t follow hell never even heard of and have to wade my way though to find my friends stuff.

Facebook is unusable now and has been for a while now. It used to be about interacting with people within your friend list and now it’s a never ending mass of adverts, weird AI crap and bizarre news stories that are either fake, bizarrely wrong or very old. Catching up on what people you actually know are doing is no longer worth the pain of trying to navigate the awful site.

It’s awful and virtually impossible to use. And because of that - and a growing concern around how these companies use data and photos and such - many people, like me, have either left it or no longer post and rarely bother going on.

Quite why Facebook has decided to do this I don’t understand. But people are leaving in droves.

So, to answer you question: most of your friends probably no longer bother with it, and those that do can’t find you amongst the quagmire of shite they have to sift through before coming across anyone they know.

instagram (owned by same company) hasn’t gotten quite so bad and at least has a button you can press (you have to repress every month) to turn of some of the endless suggested posts.

My feed is not full of my friends anymore. It is sponsored ads, AI shite, and people I do not know.
If I search and look up friends, I see they are still very active on FB... I just don't get shown their posts.

This 💯 - you can pay for it to be as free.

I don’t bother anymore - mothballed my account but kept messenger.
