AIBU to be livid at kitchen fitter for pissing all over my bathroom like a bloody tomcat?

AIBU to be absolutely livid that my kitchen fitter pisses all over the toilet and the floor every time he uses the facilities. He must have a "sprinkle-cock" Fireman Sam would be proud of. And not only that, he flushes without putting down the lid of the toilet so aerosols of his piss float through the air coating the immediate area around the loo. Every time he goes in there my whole body tenses and I have to go in after him to mop up the worst of what's on the floor so it doesn't get traipsed through the house. I have carpet ! ! ! ! ! And I know I'll be scrubbing away as soon as he leaves this evening.

My BP is up and it's only day 2 ! Oh god I could swing for him!!!

What is it with the male species that they're incapable of peeing straight 🙄. Admittedly there's some women who are equally invalid actually peeing in the pan too.

MurkyMo · 20/03/2026 08:33

Is it a territorial thing?? Well this isn't his territory. I presume he's as bad at home. His poor wife.

OP, if you have carpet, then you need one of those little mats that go in front of the loo - at least you can chuck it straight into the washing machine. I would actually ask him to close the loo after he’s used it - I don’t think that’s unreasonable. But I feel your pain!

TomatoSandwiches · 20/03/2026 08:36

I would not accept this, give him some cleaning spray and a cloth and tell him to clean up his mess..... fucking disgusting man.

A pedastal mat?? Oh I just think of my granny's house when I see those. But even with one of those I'd still have to scrub as his range is far and wide. Vile!

And this is why I now tell any unknown tradesmen that I am so sorry but actually my loo is adapted for my disability (true) so can’t be used by anyone else (not true).
They can’t be trusted and I am not risking it ever again.

DivorcedAndDelighted · 20/03/2026 08:39

Put a note up above the loo saying :

Men : please sit to pee as this loo has an odd design and splashes all over the floor.

That allows him to save face - you're not calling him a dirty sod who can't pee straight, and saves your floor. Plus hopefully makes him think for future.

Or if you don't mind potential confrontation, tell him when he arrives that in your house men need to sit to pee as you don't have time to wash the floor every day.

pilates · 20/03/2026 08:42

I would have to say something. Completely out of order.

beadystar · 20/03/2026 08:44

At this stage in my life, I would not accept this. I think they do it on purpose in a woman’s space. Little power play. I would ask him to sit on the loo and provide a box of cleaning supplies for his ‘accidents’. I would be brisk and no-nonsense about this, like talking to a child.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 20/03/2026 08:45

Say something!

franklymydearscarlett · 20/03/2026 08:46

i don’t put up with this from my DH or teen DS so why would I accept it from a random stranger? If DH or DS do this accidentally I make them clean it up. if you can bear it I would be asking the man to be more considerate of your house or put up a note to close the toilet lid.

that said when DS recently had quite a large party for his birthday involving 30 teenage boys I put a couple of towels on the bathroom floor in anticipation and chucked them in a hot wash once they’d left.

MurkyMo · 20/03/2026 08:49

It took me a long time to train DH to sit to pee. There's an occasional drip but I can live with that. I was raging to him about the fitter yesterday and he was quite proud of himself for being so civilised in the toilet department!

Honestly, just tackle it direct. He likely has a skin as thick as a rhinos.

Dave, you're passing all over the floor when you use the toilet. That might be OK on your house but it isn't in mine. Either piss straight, or I'm banning you from the toilet, and you'll have to piss into a bottle in your van or go to a pub. I don't care. Do we understand each other?

😩I can't. I can't deliberately embarrass people. Assuming he'd even be embarrassed. My electrician is the same but he's an absolute star so I wouldn't say anything to him. He only did it once anyway, he's so efficient he's in and out in a flash.

You are completely in the right and I would be incensed too.

Do you really have carpet, in your bathroom? Around your toilet?

Oh god no. But it's that awful textured safety flooring, husband is disabled so that's why it's here. But it's so difficult to clean because of the rough texture of it.

Pedestal mats are foul and belong only in the bin.

My FiL (widowed with dementia) once insisted for days on end that neighbours had stolen his pedestal mat.
In fact SiL had taken the horrible manky thing away and burnt it!

Malasana · 20/03/2026 08:56

I think you need to tell him. I don’t want to worry you but my new kitchen a couple of years ago in the end due to issues discovered while working, took three and a half weeks to complete. That’s a long time to be mopping up his piss.
Just say to him when he next heads to the loo “I’ve left the spray and cloths in the bathroom for you to use. Please clean up after using the toilet”.

CuriousKangaroo · 20/03/2026 08:56

I would have to say something. I know it might feel awkward but it’s better than seething with rage through the entire fitting and cleaning up some stranger’s piss everyday.

Bowling4soup · 20/03/2026 08:56

Why do you need to ask if this is unreasonable it obviously is.
I think you’ll have to say something maybe enter straight after him and say do you mind cleaning up after you’ve been to the loo and hand him the mop

Well you're halfway there then!

Just channel your inner head teacher vibes, get it out there and see what happens. Trades are pretty used to direct talk.

Changename12 · 20/03/2026 08:57

I don’t think any man using my toilets has done this. Even at 4, my grandson managed to go without leaving a mess and was taught by his father to check and clean up any dribbles.

So what happens if they need a toilet?
Which they inevitably will

AmazingGreatAunt · 20/03/2026 08:59

My father used to say "if you can't shoot straight, sit down!"
I would have an emphatic word with the kitchen fitter or his firm, but I would never have carpet in the loo or bathroom.
