I’m not a Reform fan but I agree with this. The top level civil servants are a homogeneous blob who refuse to act on policies voted for by the public if they don’t agree with them, which is not democratic. An overhaul is required.

Why should he? Farage never answers a straight without lying.

I thought they were the grown ups?

PMQs is pure theatre. The leader of the opposition goading and the PM fighting the urge to take the bait. Childish and pointless.

It has always been childish and pointless but Starmer’s refusal to answer any opposition question is becoming the narrative.

And you know this how? Because Farage - who has no experience of the civil service - tells you so?

I think most are realising Starmer is particularly bad at PMQs including not answering. More commentary on that finally.

I remember watching him as LOTO and he made it seem like he had all the answers.

On that last part yep.

I think most of the very few people who take any interest in PMQs agree with Tom Tugendhat whose assessment on Question Time this week was that it’s pointless posturing.

Tom Tugendhat did posture when he was defence secretary if he'd acted properly hed have been able to defend one of our most vulnerable citizens with no.problem.

What’s that got to do with his assessment of PMQ?

Yes, and then he got elected and is now realising, in full view of the public, that he doesn't. No wonder he shakes.

Sometimes the grown up thing is not to allow yourself to be goaded.

Crikeyalmighty · 28/03/2026 21:01

@CoolFineDoneWicked well that’s interesting as it seems quite a few Reform voters , right wing journalists and even a reform MP are more than happy living under sharia law- provided it comes with sun, warm weather and tax free

It just tells you his priorities. I'd find an assessment of anything, by someone who given the opportunity protects babies, more convincing and I'd also.prefer it.

Crikeyalmighty · 28/03/2026 21:11

Well I’ve pre empted this. Done all our research and visits for self employed visas ( we have a portable business) for Netherlands and Germany , so if it looks like Farage gets in or a Tory reform combo then we will move- I enjoyed living in Copenhagen before so know the ropes - he would I’m sure be one enormous bullshitter snake oil salesman in a Trump like way but maybe certain people need to discover that for themselves - it’s the working class voters and the elderly , the ones who vote this way that I think k will feel most let down when they discover he isn’t the second coming of Christ, nothing gets better, he’s got a group of C list masons and corrupt weirdos ( of all ages) as candidates and he’s fed them uncosted bull for years.

The gulf states do not strictly follow Sharia law. They've massively liberalised and westernised. Barring Kuwait and Saudi Arabia you can buy alcohol in these nations as well!

I have sufficient common sense to understand that he was part of a government with different priorities, not the unilateral decision maker. Defence doesn’t just protect babies.

Well of course, Sharia law is quite compatible with typical Reform values - tough on crime, men are men, women are in the kitchen.

Women in the gulf work and have successful thriving careers.

Their only priority was feeding a media frenzy. Still find it sickening. Theresa, Tom, Nadhim, Sajid. It had nothing to do with defence.

It’s PMQs for goodness sake. He is being asked direct questions which he refuses to answer and in the most bizarre way. The Speaker has noticed. If he can’t answer for legal reasons he should say so.

He did. Repeatedly.

Did he? When Kemi asked him six times last week about Mandelson he didn’t mention legal reasons.

BIossomtoes · 29/03/2026 09:50

He did. He repeatedly pointed out it was the subject of a police investigation and he couldn’t comment. Exactly the same thing Johnson said when the police were investigating Partygate.

Nosea · 29/03/2026 09:51

Keir Starmer was also investigated by the police for beergate

Boomer55 · 29/03/2026 09:52

It’ll probably be a coalition. But, whoever it is, none of them keep their promises, and the band rolls on.

Does the police investigation preclude him from saying whether he spoke to Mandelson before appointing him? I doubt it. That was her question.
