My baby looks at me disapprovingly

Does anyone else’s baby look at them disapprovingly? When I take him out in his buggy he lies in the bassinet looking out at me like a small, disapproving man. Am I alone in this?

My eldest was such a cheerful wee chappy (when he wasn’t screaming blue murder to be in constant motion), but his brother … he just looked as if he’d been on this earth before and that he knew I was doing everything WRONG. He’s still like that at 13 tbh.

I went away for a night and my 1 year old glared at me from the corner of her eyes for 2 days!! She 21 now and hasn't changed a bit!

AveAtqueVale · 12/03/2026 22:23

Yes. It turns out I produce extremely judgemental babies...

DS1 perfected his 'WTF' face very early 🤣

I’ve never met a newborn that hasn’t mastered the art of looking disappointed in my lifestyle choices tbf

😂

Hellohelga · 12/03/2026 23:21

No but my dog gives me the side eye.

Anxietyspiral · 12/03/2026 23:35

I kicked ex dp out for being a miserable, critical, complaining, negative, mood hoover. I'm now living with a 9 year old miserable, critical, complaining, negative, mood hoover who is also autistic so has beef with just about everything from socks to eating utensils. I'm exhausted 😩

My niece at 9 months regularly gave grandma and great aunt (combined age of 132) what we called 'The Paddington death stare'. It definitely gave your experience matters nothing to me. She's 11 now and best described as 'spirited'.

Don’t ever get a job in a nursery…

Wait until you get to the teenage years.

Yes, when you become the biggest moron that ever walked the earth. We’re currently in the “ugh you won’t understand, mum” phase. Hope it passes soon.

I looked back at some newborn pics because of this thread and was reminded that my youngest never cried when he was born but did have a look of absolute raging, fury on his face until he got his first feed.
He’s actually been an unusually happy child since but he still gets seriously hangry

Calliopespa · 13/03/2026 00:13

Are you sure it isn't just when his nappy needs changing? He might the think the smell is you ...

ThePerfectWeekender · 13/03/2026 00:15

Newborns always look angry. I think they preferred it where they were.

A few years ago we had a baby who attended our church who used to get very excited by the hymn singing and look very disapprovingly when anyone was speaking

It's VERY hard not to laugh when a vicar is praying and a baby lets out a long sigh . . .

Love this, bored stiff baby sighing at the vicar droning on & on & on....

When my DGD was about 9 months old,she went through a phase of pulling the most hideous faces. Gurning,I think it's called. I know I'm biased but she was a really beautiful baby,so many was the time a complete stranger would look admiringly at her in her pushchair, only to be greeted by a ghastly face.

My daughter looked at people like a haughty Queen Victoria

Still does now at 25

I just read this comment in the weekly round up 😂 I had a 3D scan when I was pregnant with DD1 and I swear she was looking down her nose inside me!

Waitingfordoggo · 15/03/2026 12:13

‘Small, disapproving man’ made me laugh out loud. My DS always looked like that.

He is about to turn 18 and has given me a lovely card this morning with some very nice sentiments in that he wrote himself so it seems he was able to move on from his first, disapproving impressions of me. 😂
