My baby looks at me disapprovingly

Does anyone else’s baby look at them disapprovingly? When I take him out in his buggy he lies in the bassinet looking out at me like a small, disapproving man. Am I alone in this?

Is he called stewie? Are you patronising him with a baby voice when he's actually plotting to take over the world?

Movingon2024 · 12/03/2026 19:32

Mine looked petrified from birth.
. He would stare at me constantly with a face full of horror and fear.
baby singing class was the worst. He really did look like The Scream painting in human form.

Theunamedcat · 12/03/2026 19:32

My daughter looked at people like a haughty Queen Victoria

Still does now at 25

My dog constantly judges me too

BertieBotts · 12/03/2026 19:40

Absolutely, DS2 was a master of the grumpy face. I have some brilliant pictures of him. I have always thought he is an old soul. DS1 was born at the height of the original BLW craze so naturally I assumed I'd continue this method with DS2. He glared and complained at me until I gave him some puree on a spoon at which point I swear he visibly relaxed and thought "Thank goodness she does know what she's doing" Grin

My DH's Grandson spent the 1st year of his life giving us a suspicion side eye and was constantly shaking his fists at us 😂.

Babies either look like Winston Churchill or a cherub. It’s the law!

canuckup · 12/03/2026 19:55

😂 😂 😂 😂

'like a small, disapproving man'

😆

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 12/03/2026 19:58

DS also has this. Very judgey face / resting bitch face. He’s very drawn to faces so a lot of people experience him casting his aspersions. He’s a big smiler though as soon as someone smiles at him so it’s just a front!

Uricon2 · 12/03/2026 20:01

All babies, from birth, have a "who exactly are you and what am I doing here?" face, with varying degrees of shock, incredulity and disappointment registering.

I'm sure the occasional smiles they manage are just wind.

I love babies.

ERthree · 12/03/2026 20:21

My daughter when she was a baby used to look at people with a "did i say you could speak to me" face.

Wait until you get to the teenage years.

This is so funny 😂😂😂

‘a small, disapproving man’

I used to say my niece hated me. She always looked at me with complete disdain. If she fell over and I went to steady her she’d push me away from her 😂

One of my nieces used to stare at me suspiciously. We decided it was because I look and sound very like her mother, but I clearly wasn't the person she actually wanted.

HeadyLamarr · 12/03/2026 20:43

My youngest used to do a fantastic side-eye expression. She mostly used it when watching her big brothers.
It really offended them, which was hilarious.

blankcanvas3 · 12/03/2026 20:43

I was convinced for about 8 months that my DD didn’t smile at me as much as she smiled at DH. I had a small breakdown to my dad about it, and he told me I was being silly. Then she learnt to talk and now she regularly tells me that she doesn’t love me as much as she loves DH, so I guess I was right the entire time.

HRTQueen · 12/03/2026 20:47

Nothing can make you feel as foolish as a toddler looking at you as if you are an embarrassment to be around

Moonlightdust · 12/03/2026 20:56

My friend’s baby used to give everyone a wary and disapproving scowl 😂

Danikm151 · 12/03/2026 21:05

My son was giving side eye from 10 days old! 🤣

fibeee · 12/03/2026 21:06

I love disapproving babies as they remind me of my own. My daughter pouted and glared at most people for the first year of her life and blew raspberries at them as soon as she was able. She was commonly referred to as “a very serious baby”

BauhausOfEliott · 12/03/2026 21:46

I was renowned in my family for glaring balefully at strangers when I was a baby. I hated it when they looked at me in my pram, apparently. I’ve still got Resting Bitch Face.

hereismydog · 12/03/2026 21:51

I also have a small, disapproving man! I have actually witnessed him looking people up and down with disdain.

It always makes me laugh because whilst he doesn’t look like my sister physically, he is a carbon copy of her in his expressions! They are two judgy little peas in a pod.

NigellaDelia · 12/03/2026 22:00

A few years ago we had a baby who attended our church who used to get very excited by the hymn singing and look very disapprovingly when anyone was speaking

It's VERY hard not to laugh when a vicar is praying and a baby lets out a long sigh . . .
