My baby looks at me disapprovingly

Does anyone else’s baby look at them disapprovingly? When I take him out in his buggy he lies in the bassinet looking out at me like a small, disapproving man. Am I alone in this?

My nephew had a very good shocked face at about 2 weeks old. He spent the first 3 months looking absolutely appalled.

My 4 year old has resting bitch face, gets it from me. My 7 year old literally rolls his eyes at me 1000 times a day.

A disapproving stare from a baby would make a nice change.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 12/03/2026 18:35

My daughter used to raise her eyebrow and give me a WTF face

JLou08 · 12/03/2026 18:35

The post is being taken lightly, was it meant as a joke OP?
If it's not meant as a joke, have you considered PND?

You keep telling yourself that!😂

It's true! They do a really slow blink.

I thought he was scowling but my best friend's bloke, who is a vet, said "Aw, he's kissing you. You're his favourite."

And I was all "no, he hates me, he's always doing this slow eye narrowing thing when he sees me."

And they both laughed at me for being clueless.

If you want to start a set I have a very judgy dog and cat I can send around.

TakeTheCuntingQuichePatricia · 12/03/2026 18:43

Have you been letting him watch the news @ChilliPaprikaGarlic ? Maybe he disapproves of you forcing him to exist when the world is going to hell in a handcart

TheWonderhorse · 12/03/2026 18:44

Oh I miss disapproval. Those were the days.

Now it's cringing shame, hostility or disgust. Teens are a fucking delight.

(I think sometimes they do like me, but that doesn't fit with their 'vibe')

ChilliPaprikaGarlic · 12/03/2026 18:46

Ah, I’m glad I’m not alone! These responses have made me laugh. Thank you everyone!

@ferntwist he’s 4 months. Very true about learning to focus. I hadn’t thought about his eyes working overtime.

And yes, I do kind of want to post a picture of his extreme disapproval because it’s so funny and bizarre but I also don’t think that’s quite fair on him, poor little chap. Babies are hilarious 😂

😄😄 thanks for the laugh op

He's got opinions! Today's judgy baby, tomorrow's Judge!

My almost 7 yo dd thinks I exist to wipe things on 😄

Very true! This could be it…

Both of mine did this! My daughter always looked very disapproving at people. My son looked at people as if they had produced a really unpleasant smell.

How funny would it be if your baby grows up to be an actual judge! 🤣

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 12/03/2026 18:52

I'd scowl at you if you pulled my face around like that !
Probably yell as well .

mummypigoink · 12/03/2026 18:53

He’s a considerate wee lad, getting you used to the look he’ll give you often in years to come. Very impressive at 4 months 🤣

Doggymummar · 12/03/2026 19:02

They all look judgy to me

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/03/2026 18:25

I suggest you never get a cat 🤣

😂😂

Buckfastburps · 12/03/2026 19:06

Has he given you the finger yet? Mine did, at least than a week old. I'll never forget what that did to my self esteem as a new mother.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/03/2026 19:07

I have a series of photos of DS taken in rapid succession and wearing a sunhat that him look even more like an old man. In the first, he is happy as Larry, till he catches sight of me taking the photos and his expression turns to utter horror.

It is exactly like stills of a pensioner murder victim catching sight of the killer in the opening of a BBC cosy crime drama.

Amabo · 12/03/2026 19:08

Wait until your baby can roll his/her eyes. It’s great.

BerryTwister · 12/03/2026 19:08

Maybe wondering what a bassinet is?

aloris · 12/03/2026 19:10

You don't have to post pictures but make sure you take some so you can remember this auspicious time!

Mumofteenandtween · 12/03/2026 19:22

Wait until he starts to talk. Dd age 3 had an excellent line in “slightly disappointing junior employee” that was her way of talking to us.

My daughter is like this 😂 my son was the opposite, smiling and chatting to everyone even from really tiny, but no, DD stares with barely concealed contempt. Soooo many people have commented, they come bustling over and coo and talk to her and she literally looks at them like this;
