To absolutely loathe the increase in smear campaigns against businesses because of the halal meat debate?

Well it’s not really a debate, is it? You either don’t care, or you’re absolutely seething because your meat may or may not be halal. But irrespectively of what you think about this, AIBU to think that people ‘outing’ businesses on social media about what meat they use and encouraging hundreds of people to smear them not just in posts but reviews to tank their ratings is just crazy?

Hundreds of people commenting ‘I’ve just left them a bad review on google’ because a (British owned baked potato) business extended their trading hours to their Muslim customers? People who have never bought anything from them in their life, probably geographically will never go there. Actively trying to sabotage a business because you think you’re what - some sort of activist?

And don’t get me started on the posts where people reach out to these poor customer service reps in supermarkets to ask them if the meat they sell is halal because of this mad narrative that ‘80% of supermarket meat is halal’ - where has this nonsense come from?!?! 😂 People screenshotting and commenting about how ‘Clare from Lidl’ is avoiding the question when she probably doesn’t have a scooby and the answer probably isn’t a straight yes or no either!

Madness. Utter madness. People treating this like it’s a full time job.

I would also like my children not to eat halal at school. Currently all meat in their school is halal. I asked. I was not informed.

I think this is the issue. It’s being forced upon people and we are not being informed about what we are eating. There should always be a choice and it should be made clear so we can make that choice.

I agree. It’s the assumption everyone’s ok with it and it’s being inclusive.

The halal option should be made clear for muslim pupils and other meat for other non Muslim.

It's standard in schools because it's easier just to have one type of meat. Our school canteen only serves Halal meat because our student intake is 52% Muslim.

Won’t they think of the minorities!!!

Whilst I agree (I'm veggie), this debate is predominantly driven by racism. Most the people kicking up a fuss don't give a toss about animal welfare.

BS. Britain is a nation of animal lovers, and people very much do care about how animals are treated.

People seem far more outraged about halal than kosher food. Funny that...

Because halal is being pushed everywhere and kosher isn't. When is the last time you have seen a kosher takeaway or people campaigning for all school meals to be kosher - whereas all my children's schools have now switched to fully halal meat and all of our local takeaways are halal.

But surely you don't expect cash-strapped schools to be buying expensive meat in any case? So regardless of whether or not it is halal, the welfare standards of school meat are likely to be pretty low.

Just be honest, your real objection has nothing to do with animal welfare at all, it is about your perception that "Islamic meat" is somehow being forced on you against your will. The pretence that you actually give a shit about animal welfare simply isn't convincing.

So what's the issue? People are allowed a religion but fucking stupid to introduce their religion with Job title, unless you want dominance. You would all be slating any Christian doing the same

Like barn eggs & battery chickens, you mean? Or are they okay?

Sausage also is very appalling in how its made. The whole pig into a massive machine that blends it up, meaning the eyes, anus, bowel contents and brains are all in the meat. Yuck!!!!! 😫

No it's not.

But eating the whole animal is also fine

Calm down.

My point was it was bizzare to be a Muslim but selling pork products/pizzas is not allowed in their religion. Eating it and selling it is the same thing as well as alcohol!!!

No, they really don't.

If people actually cared about animal welfare, the outrage would be focused on how animals are treated throughout their lives, and not merely about what happens at the moment of their deaths.

The labelling is so anyone can make an informed choice. Whether they want halal or not.

I actually think this poster is being more truthful than most though.

It is about their perception that Islam is becoming dominant in the UK, and no matter how ridiculous their perception is, at least they are being honest enough to admit it, instead of dressing up their objections as faux concern about animal welfare.

It's better if the Islamophobes state their position clearly so that we can at least all see it for what it is.

Would you say it is phobic to address this, or have concerns about it?

Yes, I watched a very sad video today by peta that baby calves dragged away for their meat literally after birth!!!!! And the mother cow was charging down the farm road after its baby. Then stopped and let out a sad moan. Was very sad and now presumably ahe will be used for her milk immediately.

Yes, I think it's phobic to believe that Muslims are somehow taking over the UK, which is the underlying narrative. There is just no evidence to back that up.

ladyofshertonabbas · 09/03/2026 11:05

I agree that asking a staff member to clarify on the shop floor is not fair on that staff member, but contacting head office/ manager asking for clarity and clearer labelling is absolutely the right thing to do.
Clearer labelling is what people are asking for; it is pretty angering to find out that animal welfare standards have been dropped by stealth. It shouldn't be difficult for small businesses to clarify whether their meat is religiously slaughtered or not, it could be sorted in one day. Put the info at the point of sale so consumers can decide what to do with that information.

SpringsOnTheWay · 09/03/2026 07:59

This thread is exactly why there isn’t a real life debate about it because people are being labelled as racist and a “type” For actively choosing to avoid halal and kosher.

No, there are two things going on.

A completely reasonable debate about animal welfare / clear labelling and info and the role of religion , any religion

And

Halal meat as weaponised by far right groups across social media where the intent IS racist / xenophobic

They are different.
