Dogs in hotels

SlouchyBeanie · 07/03/2026 19:51

Staying in a chain hotel. Just seen two lots of dogs being taken to stay in a room. One lot was 2 spaniels, the other was a sausage dog and a bigger one I can't identify. I mean, what the fuck!?? I'm allergic to dogs and how do I know if there's been one in my room? Easy, I feel a bit unwell. Am I completely alone in thinking dogs have no business being in hotels and their owners are shit owners to imagine their dogs would enjoy this sort of experience. As I type, a third one has arrived, a terrier looking thing. I'm totally gobsmacked at the number of dogs in this hotel and find it unacceptable. I feel quite fired up about this at the moment, probably made worse by the barking and yapping I can hear. So am I being unreasonable that dogs should not be allowed in hotels?

She's getting a hard time because she chose a dog friendly hotel and is now bitching about it.

This.

If you don't want to stay in a hotel with dogs, then book one that doesn't allow dogs. It's not rocket science.

When I worked in a hotel years ago, I found used condoms in a kettle on a couple of occasions. 🤮 Dogs really aren’t the issue.

Just….why? Why would anyone put a used condom anywhere other than the bin? People really are vile! It’s no wonder so many of us prefer dogs!

Bloody madness! These greedy businesses that only see the £! and don’t give a damn about the rest of us who don’t want to share a hotel/cafe/garden centre with dogs - I don’t go to cafes anymore that allow them.

It's getting quite hard to avoid them though isn't it? I hardly know of any cafes that don't allow dogs inside

And you don't know if they've had flea or tick treatment either.

My whole experience working in hotels was eye opening to say the least. Loads of the staff shagging each other, staff shagging guests and the things I saw and found in rooms were shocking, some funny, some genuinely disgusting and made me question humanity.

Bowness-on-Windermere is the most dog-friendly place I know. There are 76 cafes and restaurants listed on TripAdvisor. When you add a filter for dog-friendly, this drops to 19, so no, it is not hard.

Ferdyandthegingerone · 07/03/2026 20:53

Quite right @Catisheavyonmylap. How dare those greedy businesses try to…make a living! Instead, they should pander to you, apparently the minority. Your needs and wants should over rule their need to provide for their own families 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

There's absolutely no need for dogs to stay in hotels. They're animals, if you have to take them with you somewhere they can stay in the car overnight with a window cracked open, it won't kill them.
I recently went on a city break, was about to book a really nice independent hotel when I read the bit of the website that said they were dog friendly. So the chain hotel that did not allow dogs got my business instead.

Wtf is wrong with you? No decent person leaves an animal alone overnight in an uninsulated, unsecured vehicle. My dog is the third most expensive thing I’ve ever bought and a member of my family, frankly I’d rather you stay in the car.

No more disgusting than humans fucking and leaving their bodily fluids all over the covers.

Hear hear!

OneBreezyHelper · 07/03/2026 20:55

YABU

if it's a "dog friendly" hotel, you are ridiculous to become enraged to see a dog.

I never book a "smoking" room personally - not that they seem to exist much these days. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes, so the solution is not to book one.

Same with dogs?

It sounds so obvious, I am not sure what I am possibly missing.

That’s disgusting in a hotel and against any policy I’ve seen.

Hope they catch you and throw you out next time.

Do what you like in your own home.

If a dog is allowed in a hotel room, are you seriously expecting the dog to not go potentially anywhere in that room? 😂

Don't be ridiculous.

But I do love the image of hotel managers sneaking in rooms at night to check where everybody is sleeping 😂😂

TeenLifeMum · 07/03/2026 20:58

This thread is hilarious. They wash the sheets and vacuum carpets in the hotels I’ve stayed at 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 mn is so weird about dogs, and allergies. The world doesn’t revolve around you - I say this as a family with allergies. I don’t expect everyone to adapt to me, I adapt.

I stayed in a hotel just before Christmas (shock, horror with my dog) and they only had 3 pet friendly rooms. Not a lot at all compared to the number of other rooms.

My dog neither yapped or barked.

Well if your dogs didn’t yap or bark then that’s ok, no other dogs could have possibly done so.
The only dogs that should be in most hotels are genuine assistance dogs.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 07/03/2026 21:03

Nickyknackered · 07/03/2026 20:38

Yes I believe they make the dogs read and sign all policies.

Don’t be ridiculous.

The owners should read them, though. If they can, judging from the sense of entitlement from some of them.

No.

I expect owners to comply with hotel policies.

If that’s no dogs on furniture, then dogs shouldn’t go on furniture. Anything else is the height of entitlement.

Our car alarm would go off all night. Would you prefer that?

I can’t stand noisy kids in hotel rooms (I’ve got 2 myself although they’re young adults now) BUT people can’t always keep their kids quiet so I expect hotels to have kids in. Drives me mad when a child in the room above is running up and down at 2am!

Hotels are there to make money and they don’t care who pays the money, dog owners or otherwise.

I avoid dog friendly accommodation on the basis that all the beds, bedspreads and cushions will have had dogs on. Those items, unlike sheets, don't get washed between guests.
Dog owners seem to allow their pets on furniture at home so I think it's naive to expect them to abide by "no dogs on the bed" rules in a hotel. They will think their one little dog doesn't matter.

Judging by the number of hotels disagreeing with you and offering dog friendly rooms, you’re not in the majority. People travel with their dogs.

BollyMolly · 07/03/2026 21:12

Hotels get to decide for themselves what’s acceptable on their premises, and if it works for their business model to allow dogs, then dogs are acceptable. The probably try to keep some rooms pet free, so if it matters to you then the onus is on you to ask when you book.

you might find it means not on furniture where claws will leave a mark

it doesn't mean not on your pillow if you fancy sleeping with your dog there 😂

glonurse · 07/03/2026 21:18

You can stay at a hotel that doesn't allow pets if you'd like.

There are more of these than the pet-friendly ones.

people also put their luggage, their shoes and god knows what on these. Dogs are the least of my problem in term of hygiene frankly.

SlouchyBeanie · 07/03/2026 21:20

I have friends who have working dogs. We stay in hotels. The 3 dogs stay in the rear of the car, which is set up for them to sleep comfortably. We take turns to pop down and let them out for 10 minutes and a fuss. Absolutely no need for them to be in a hotel room. Ridiculous.
